Geely&#8217;s EV-only brand Zeekr revamped its electric hatchback: 2023 Zeekr 001. This time, the large EV comes with CATL&#8217;s latest battery pack called &#8216;Qilin Battery&#8217;. It is designed as a cell-to-pack (CTP) solution, which increases the pack-level energy density to more than 200 Wh/kg. Thanks to a more energy-dense, lightweight design, this pack can store a heft 140-kWh of energy into an all-electric hatchback. 
2023 Zeekr 001 will not only feature this huge battery. There are two other options with less energy capacity as well. Zeekr 001 WE version costs around €41,000/300,000 CNY and offers an 86-kWh battery and a CLTC range of 546 kilometers. There also three different 100-kWh battery versions, one with the single motor and a 100-kWh battery, the other two are equipped with dual-motor 544-HP powertrain with the same 100-kWh pack. All version offer a top speed of 200 km/h. Dual-motor 2023 Zeekr 001 can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h(62 mph) in 3.8 seconds, which is better than most of the sport cars on the market right now.

Smart

smart finally unveiled its first electric SUV in Germany: smart #1. The subcompact SUV is designed by Mercedes-Benz, but based on Geely&#8216;s SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) platform. Geely and Mercedes both hold 50% stake in the German compact car brand smart. This model is the first vehicle that smart unveiled after Geely bought half of the smart shares from Mercedes in 2019. 
 
smart #1 uses the same underpinnings as the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/zeekr-001-dual-motor-you">Zeekr 001</a>, which is an EV-dedicated Chinese brand wholly owned by Geely. The production of the smart 1 will also be held at Geely&#8217;s manufacturing facility in China.

Regenerative braking technology is a bliss for the efficiency of <a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars">all-electric vehicles</a>. But it takes time to get used to this helpful feature. Sometimes it gets annoying or makes no sense on some occasions. There is an option to turn it off, but things get complicated with <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-cars-have-been-sold">Tesla vehicles</a>. Let us explain.
If you want to turn off regenerative braking on your Tesla, you probably won&#8217;t find any disabling option in the menu. Because turning off regenerative braking is not possible on a Tesla. It is also impossible to adjust the regen on Tesla vehicles built since Q2 2020. Tesla Model S/3/X/Y vehicles built before that date can still be able to offer adjustments. You just need to navigate through the main screen and go to Driving, then change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; to &#8216;Low&#8217; for reducing the level of regenerative braking.
Newer Tesla vehicles come with standard level regen as default. There is no &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; adjustment option anymore. So, why wouldn&#8217;t Tesla allow its drivers to adjust regenerative braking? The main reason is that the vehicle range is heavily affected by not being able to recuperate the energy you otherwise lost to heat, etc by pressing the brake pedal. Other automakers agree with Tesla as well. According to <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://electrek.co/2018/08/08/audi-e-tron-quattro-electric-suv-range-regen-braking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Audi</a>, regenerative braking can extend the range by up to 30% on average. Soon, every new electric vehicle on the market will probably remove the option to adjust regenerative braking for the sake of efficiency.
<h2>How to Adjust Regenerative Braking on Tesla Model Y/3 and Model S/X?</h2>

If you drive a Tesla vehicle built before Q2 2022, your car&#8217;s main screen comes with an option to adjust regenerative braking. You just need to go to settings, then select the &#8216;Driving&#8217; menu from the left and change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; option to &#8216;Low&#8217; for partially turning off the regen.
You won&#8217;t be able to turn off this feature. There is, however, a way to heavily limit the effects of regen braking. Here&#8217;s how:
<h3>Why Does Regenerative Braking Limited on My Tesla?</h3>
If you live in a cold area or your battery is fully charged, your Tesla vehicle would warn you about the regenerative braking is being limited. That&#8217;s because the battery is unable to receive the energy from the regen system and the battery&#8217;s management system temporarily turns off the regenerative braking feature. It might take up to half an hour for your vehicle to recover from that. In order to reduce the negative effects of this limitation, you can enable an extra feature for automatically applying the brake pedals instead of regen braking. Just go to Controls &gt; Pedals &amp; Steering, then turn on the &#8216;Apply Brakes When Regenerative Braking is Limited&#8217; option.
<h3>Does Regenerative Braking Work on Icy/Snowy Roads?</h3>
Not being able to turn off regenerative braking might sound dangerous on icy/snowy roads, but Tesla has a solution for this. In 2022, Tesla adjusted the traction control software of its vehicles and added a hidden snow mode. Its main function is to better handle regen braking adjustments on icy roads and snow. How to Turn Off Regenerative Braking on a Tesla?

If you want to play games with an Xbox controller on your Tesla, use a data cable (not a charge-only USB cable that lacks the data transfer function) to plug your controller into your Tesla Model 3/Y&#8217;s main screen via the USB-C ports in the center console or the USB-A port in the glove box. If you prefer a wireless connection, or your controller cannot be connected to your Tesla via cable, just follow our guide down below.

Step 4. In order to put your controller into pairing mode, first press the Xbox button for one second until it lights up. Then, press and hold the circular pair button located on the back of the controller for three seconds.
Step 5. Once the wireless adapter and Xbox controller ared paired up, the lights on both of these devices will stop blinking. You will see a notification message on your Tesla&#8217;s screen that confirms the pairing.

EPA published a list of electric cars that scored the highest MPGe, which is the MPG equivalent of the EV world. Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the most efficient electric car, according to EPA. Electric sedan&#8217;s RWD Long Range version scored a 140 MPGe. The second most efficient model is the 2022&#8217;s champion, Tesla Model 3. Popular sedan&#8217;s RWD variant got an MPGe score of 132. The third most efficient electric car is also an American-made: Lucid Air. Another Tesla vehicle, Model Y got the fourth place in EPA&#8217;s most efficient EVs ranking. Tesla&#8217;s all four models made it into the list. This means that rear-wheel-drive Ioniq 6 can travel up to 140 miles with 33.7-kWh of electricty, which is equal to the energy contained in one gallon of gas. Tesla Model 3 RWD version scored the second best MPGe. It is also the highest MPGe among 2022 model electric vehicles. It can travel 3.91 miles per kWh. Model 3&#8217;s combined energy consumption is 15.8 kWh per 62 miles (100 km).
This electric sedan is the most efficient of its kind, thanks to Tesla&#8217;s state-of-the-art heat pump used for thermal management of the battery pack, and highly-efficient custom design electric motors. Model 3 will increase its efficiency when Tesla update its battery with the new energy-dense 4680 cell and swap the old pack design with much lighter <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/what-is-structural-battery-ctc-ctb-ev-battery-packs-explained">structural battery pack</a>.

Ultra high-speed stations will be put into service under Geely Group&#8217;s e-mobility and charge tech company called VREMT. There are more than 450 charging stations Geely and Zeekr installed in the last couple of months. Most of these stations are capable of 360 kW DC charging, which is enough to give Zeekr 001 a range of 120 kilometers in 5 minutes. The next-gen chargers will be a lot more competitive than the first stations.
China&#8217;s largest privately-owned automaker is also getting ready to sell fully-electric vehicles outside of China by launching <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/zeekr-001-dual-motor-you" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the Zeekr</a> brand to European customers. EV-only brand is doing really well in mainland China, as the brand&#8217;s first vehicle Zeekr 001 passed 40,000 sales last month after its launch in October 2021.
Zeekr will start its European expansion with a showroom in early 2023. Chinese brand will adopt the online-reservation policy in Europe, just like Geely&#8217;s soon-to-be online-only brand Volvo. Zeekr has plans to launch seven electric vehicles into the market. Geely expects Zeekr to sell more than 100,000 EVs in Europe by 2025.

Leapmotor, an emerging EV brand backed by Dahua Technology, has plans to enter the European market in 2023. The brand officials confirmed that Leapmotor would open showrooms in Europe. To finance its globalization plans, Hangzhou-based carmaker filed its first IPO that worths around $1.5bn at Hong Kong Exchange.
The brand has already started to sell electric vehicles in Turkey and Israel, starting with the compact hatchback called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-t03" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor T03</a>. The first EV to be showcased in Europe will probably be the electric sedan C01. BYD first entered Norway with the full-size electric SUV called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-tang-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tang EV</a>. Over the next months, China&#8217;s biggest EV manufacturer will start selling vehicles all over the world. BYD EVs are already available in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. European countries where BYD will start operations before the end of 2022 are the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden.
BYD will export these three electric vehicle models to Old Continent; compact electric SUV <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-atto-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Atto 3</a>, electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-han-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Han EV</a>, and BYD Tang EV. NIO is one of the first Chinese automakers, which officially confirms its entry into the US market. NIO-branded EVs will be on sale in the US starting in 2025. Large-size SUV ES8 is currently being tested on US roads. There is no official timeline for the US launch, though.
Chinese EV marque will also start selling EVs in Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The next move on the global plans is to enter more European markets such as Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. NIO is hoping to sell electric vehicles in 25 countries by 2025.

In February 2022, Xpeng opened its first showroom in Stockholm, Sweden. Guangzhou-based company will start selling EVs in Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden before the year ends. The company&#8217;s first offering will be the mid-range electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p5-600p" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P5</a>.
Xpeng expects half of its electric vehicle sales in 2025 to come from outside of China. Europe is its first choice but customers from the US will eventually get a taste of Xpeng&#8217;s popular cars in the near future. Chinese brand signed a dealership agreement with a Turkish company to sell EVs in Turkey as well. The first vehicle to be put on sale in Turkey will be <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p7-4wd-high-performance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P7</a>.

Geely is a global automotive group. There are brands under the Geely Group that sell vehicles all over the world. Zeekr will be joining those brands next year by entering the European market. EV-only brand will make it official in early 2023, as Zeekr announced.
Zeekr has only one model on sale called Zeekr 001, but it has plans to launch a total of seven EVs by 2025. Its 2025 sales goal in Europe is 100,000 vehicles. There is no word whether Zeekr will sell EVs in Scandinavia, western/or eastern Europe. Follow us for more details.

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially entered the United Kingdom and Germany with its EV-only brand ORA. GWM introduced the first vehicles to be put on sale in Europe earlier this year. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/ora-cat-64-kwh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ORA Cat/Funky Cat</a> is the first one for the western market.
The company appoints Emil Frey to distribute vehicles starting in Germany. That is not the first time GWM to choose Germany for its global expansion. Chinese automaker&#8217;s battery division SVOLT opened a battery plant in Germany as well. Recently SVOLT announced its second investment worth €2.0bn, which would enable them to produce lithium-ion battery cells directly in the country.

Li Auto is relatively late to the EV party, as their first choice of vehicle type is extended-range electric vehicles (EREV). BT The company will launch its first pure-electric model sometime next year. There are also plans for a possible production site in Europe.
Beijing-based automaker will be looking for partnerships to start selling EVs in Europe as soon as next year. No official info regarding which countries will get to buy Li Auto EREVs yet.

Which Chinese EV Brands Are Coming To United States and Europe?

Chinese-American battery manufacturer Farasis announced its new strategy and a new high-nickel battery product at a press event in Beijing. The next-gen lithium-ion battery is called SPS, or &#8220;Super Pouch Solution&#8221;. As the name suggests, Farasis is switching to CTP (Cell-to-Pack) battery design with bigger pouch cells. This new design will allow EVs using the latest cells from Farasis to travel up to 400 kilometers with 10 minutes of charging. Super Pouch will also support the direct-recycling process developed by the battery maker.

Thanks to the bigger, thicker pouch-cell form factor, Super Pouch batteries will reach a gravimetric pack-level energy density of 330 Wh/kg. Farasis confirmed that its new NMC cell will support 800V electrical architecture, up to 4C discharge rates, and 300-350 kW DC charging speeds that will allow 400 kilometers of range with a 10-minute charging session.
The module-less battery pack will include a two-sided liquid cooling system and heat dissipation plates on three sides of every pouch cell. Advanced thermal management system will not only quadruple heat dissipation efficiency but also extend battery life to more than 3,000 cycles.
Horizontally placed big pouch cells will allow Farasis to decrease the number of battery parts by 50%, reduce material costs by up to 33%, and increase volume utilization to 75%. The compact battery pack will be able to hold off more than 90 percent of its energy capacity in extreme cold weather conditions (-20 Celcius).

Currently, Farasis only offers high-nickel NMC811 and NMC622 pouch cells. With the new strategy, Chinese company will add some competitive options to its product portfolio, such as LFP, high-manganese NMC, and low-cost sodium-ion battery cells.
Thanks to a much improved semi-solid electrolyte and silicone anode, Farasis will be able to produce NMC cells with 300 to 400 Wh/kg energy density. After switching to a fully solid-state electrolyte in 2028, energy density levels will reach as far as 500 Wh/kilogram, which will hopefully be enough to be used in the aviation industry.
Next year, Farasis is getting into the LFP wagon as well. They will not only produce lithium-iron-phosphate batteries but also offer more energy-dense LMFP (Lithium manganese-iron-phosphate) cells. The energy density level will vary between 200 to 240 Wh/kg. These will not be the cheapest option Farasis will provide. Sodium-ion battery production is also due in 2023 with an energy density of 160 Wh/kg. Farasis predicts that its sodium-ion cells will be best for energy storage applications and entry-level EVs. Energy density-wise, these cells will go as high as 230 Wh/kg by 2030.
<h2>Battery Plants Will Cost Less, Thanks to Improved Battery Tech</h2>

Improved battery chemistry and much higher energy density will allow Farasis to cut manufacturing equipment costs by 50 percent. Super Pouch-producing factories will also require 60% less space for the same amount of battery production output.
Farasis also said that new battery plants will consume 35% less energy and lower production costs by 30%. Chinese company has agreed to open a battery plant in Turkey with domestic EV brand <a href="https://www.licarco.com/togg-c-suv">Togg</a>. This new plant will definitely produce next-gen pouch cells from Farasis starting in 2025. <a href="https://www.licarco.com/zeekr-001-single-motor-we">Geely</a> also established a joint venture with Farasis to construct multiple battery cell production sites and co-develop future battery technologies. Both of these partners will make use of Super Pouch&#8217;s cost-cutting, energy-dense design.

Farasis has been developing lithium-ion batteries ever since Yu Wang and Keith Kepler established their first company in 2002. After a dramatic transfer to China in 2009 and a collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, Farasis quickly became the industry&#8217;s one of the most successful battery start-ups in the early 2010s. It even made it into the world&#8217;s 10 largest battery manufacturers in 2017 and 2018. Even though it had early success in this emerging field, Farasis has yet to make its big leap forward. They have been struggling to ramp up production. With the new strategy, company&#8217;s offering will cover every customer&#8217;s needs from low-cost sodium-ion cells to high-nickel NMC batteries with silicon anode.

Farasis Unveils ‘Super Pouch’ Battery Cell, 400 KM Range in 10 Minutes

Geely&#8217;s premium EV brand Zeekr officially started the production of its first vehicle in China. Last month, Chinese automaker announced the opening of its first facility called &#8220;Zeekr Intelligent Factory&#8221;, and also confirmed deliveries will start this October. As expected, yesterday Geely shared photos from the new manufacturing facility and unveiled the first Zeekr 001 rolled off the assembly line.

Geely has been desperately trying to get a grip of the China&#8217;s EV madness with couple of sub-brands, such as Geometry. Zeekr is the latest brand idea that comes from the famous Chinese automobile entreprenuer Li Shufu. It aims to be the ultimate premium brand among the Geely group companies. Zhejiang based automaker managed to raise $500 milllion in Zeekr&#8217;s first external funding last August, valuing the company around $9 billion. Semiconductor giant Intel&#8217;s venture capital division called Intel Capital, Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba, and the world&#8217;s largest lithium battery manufacturer CATL are one of the top names investing in the &#8220;ZEEKR Project&#8221;.

<h2>Zeekr 001 Specs and Pricing</h2>
Premium brand&#8217;s first vehicle, Zeekr 001 comes in three different variants; one with a single electric motor and two other variants with dual motor all-wheel drive system. Based on the SEA (Sustainable Experience Architecture) modular platform, 001 can produce 544 horsepower and 768 Nm of torque with dual electric motors, from 0 to 100 km/h only takes 4.4 seconds, and it also offers up to 712 kilometers of range, thanks to a huge 100 kWh battery pack underneath the vehicle.
Geely will start delivering the first Zeekr 001 vehicles on October 23rd to Chinese customers. Starting price is 299,000 RMB which is around $46,750. Customers who want to purchase the long range dual motor option will have to spend more than $56,000 to get the best Zeekr 001 out there. High-range vehicle will be available in Europe in the near future.
