Cadillac revamped its fully electric SUV LYRIQ for the 2024 model year. It is officially on sale for pre-order. American automaker puts a 33-inch curved LED display inside the LYRIQ. 11.5 kW on-board charger is standard now. Luxury and Sport trims will also get the faster 19.2-kW charger. 
Electric SUV offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless phone charging, one-pedal driving, and safe driving features such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Rear Park Assist, etc. Cadillac&#8217;s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist technology is available on Luxury and Sport trims. 
2024 Cadillac Lyriq is eligible for the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/which-electric-vehicles-are-eligible-for-tax-credit-in-us">tax credit</a>, as long as your MSRP doesn&#8217;t exceed the IRS&#8217;s $80,000 price cap. The starting price for the Lyriq AWD is $62,090. It goes all the way to $79,905 with the Lyriq Sport 3 trim with illuminated front grille and Super Cruise autopilot technology installed.

BYD Yangwang U8, previosly known as Yangwang R1, is a luxurious performance-oriented electric SUV. It is a direct competitor to Land Rover brand and Mercedes-Benz&#8217;s upcoming all-electric G-Wagon called EQG. The technical details of this new model is scarce right now but BYD will release more info regarding their new sub-brand Yangwang in the next couple of months. 
U8 comes with four electric motors, one for each wheel. The advanced powertrain will improve Yangwang U8&#8217;s off-road performance. BYD claims that U8 is capable of speeding at 120 km/h even if its tires are blown out. 
BYD U8 and all-electric super car <a href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-yangwang-u9">BYD U9</a> are based on the new e4 platform. This next-gen architecture offers more flexibility in numerous areas, such as the number of motors, high-voltage electrical system, etc. For instance, Chinese EV maker will use its first 800V SiC inverter, which scores a 99.5 percent efficiency, inside the Yangwang EVs.

<a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/cars?filter=honda" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Honda</a> lacks behind its competitors when it comes to the electrification of its vehicles. The only pure electric model Japanese firm offers as of today is the supermini <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/honda-e" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Honda e</a>. This is very problematic for the Japanese automaker, because of the carbon emission regulations that keep getting severe in Europe and China. But they have a quick solution to this: Honda e:NS1, the electrified version of the latest Honda H-RV. 
Honda e:NS1 is a conversion project managed by Dongfeng Honda, Japanese firm&#8217;s joint-venture in China. Instead of developing an EV-dedicated vehicle platform and building an efficient electric car, Honda simply swapped the petrol engine for a smaller, lighter electric motor, and attached a battery pack (supplied by CATL) underneath the existing chassis of the 2022 Honda H-RV. This is probably the most sloppy electric conversion job we have ever encountered. But it works like a charm for the Japanese carmaker.

e:NS1 is based on Honda&#8217;s e:N OS operating system that powers the large 15.1-inch vertically-oriented infotainment display inside the car. Rear-view mirror and gauge cluster are also LCD displays, to enable a much smoother riding experience. Compact EV offers some app control features as well, such as mobile key app, virtual key share, Find My Car, etc. 
There is a face-recognition system inside the cockpit of the Honda e:NS1, increasing the overall security of the vehicle. 
Honda&#8217;s first electric SUV is capable of offering V2L, which is very practical when it comes to powering house appliances and mobile devices. V2L feature is optional though. There is also a pre-conditioning feature for the battery that speed-up the charging process beforehand.

Regenerative braking technology is a bliss for the efficiency of <a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars">all-electric vehicles</a>. But it takes time to get used to this helpful feature. Sometimes it gets annoying or makes no sense on some occasions. There is an option to turn it off, but things get complicated with <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-cars-have-been-sold">Tesla vehicles</a>. Let us explain.
If you want to turn off regenerative braking on your Tesla, you probably won&#8217;t find any disabling option in the menu. Because turning off regenerative braking is not possible on a Tesla. It is also impossible to adjust the regen on Tesla vehicles built since Q2 2020. Tesla Model S/3/X/Y vehicles built before that date can still be able to offer adjustments. You just need to navigate through the main screen and go to Driving, then change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; to &#8216;Low&#8217; for reducing the level of regenerative braking.
Newer Tesla vehicles come with standard level regen as default. There is no &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; adjustment option anymore. So, why wouldn&#8217;t Tesla allow its drivers to adjust regenerative braking? The main reason is that the vehicle range is heavily affected by not being able to recuperate the energy you otherwise lost to heat, etc by pressing the brake pedal. Other automakers agree with Tesla as well. According to <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://electrek.co/2018/08/08/audi-e-tron-quattro-electric-suv-range-regen-braking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Audi</a>, regenerative braking can extend the range by up to 30% on average. Soon, every new electric vehicle on the market will probably remove the option to adjust regenerative braking for the sake of efficiency.

If you drive a Tesla vehicle built before Q2 2022, your car&#8217;s main screen comes with an option to adjust regenerative braking. You just need to go to settings, then select the &#8216;Driving&#8217; menu from the left and change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; option to &#8216;Low&#8217; for partially turning off the regen.

<h3>Why Does Regenerative Braking Limited on My Tesla?</h3>
If you live in a cold area or your battery is fully charged, your Tesla vehicle would warn you about the regenerative braking is being limited. That&#8217;s because the battery is unable to receive the energy from the regen system and the battery&#8217;s management system temporarily turns off the regenerative braking feature. It might take up to half an hour for your vehicle to recover from that. In order to reduce the negative effects of this limitation, you can enable an extra feature for automatically applying the brake pedals instead of regen braking. Just go to Controls &gt; Pedals &amp; Steering, then turn on the &#8216;Apply Brakes When Regenerative Braking is Limited&#8217; option.
<h3>Does Regenerative Braking Work on Icy/Snowy Roads?</h3>
Not being able to turn off regenerative braking might sound dangerous on icy/snowy roads, but Tesla has a solution for this. In 2022, Tesla adjusted the traction control software of its vehicles and added a hidden snow mode. Its main function is to better handle regen braking adjustments on icy roads and snow. If you want to play games with an Xbox controller on your Tesla, use a data cable (not a charge-only USB cable that lacks the data transfer function) to plug your controller into your Tesla Model 3/Y&#8217;s main screen via the USB-C ports in the center console or the USB-A port in the glove box. <a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars">Electric vehicles</a> are getting really popular, but the main concerns, such as short range and long charging times that hold conventional vehicle owners back from switching sides are still yet to be solved. That is where higher-voltage electric vehicles are coming into play. Tesla recently announced its 1000-volt system and hinted more Tesla vehicles will benefit from the new tech. Future EVs will eventually make the switch from 400V to higher voltage systems.
800V or higher voltage electric vehicles are capable of delivering <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/top-15-ev-charging-networks-in-the-us">ultra-fast charging</a> rates and offer higher performance while improving the efficiency of the all systems. 800V electric vehicles can only be possible by employing an 800V battery and using SiC (Silicone Carbide) inverter, proper cabling, OBC (On-board Charger), DCDC converter and other electrical equipments that support higher voltage levels. Conventional electric vehicles come with 400V electrical architecture as standard. Because of the voltage limit, today&#8217;s electric vehicles are limited to a maximum of 400-volt when they are connected to a DC charging station. In order to reach higher charge rates, current levels should go up to 600A or even more, which is not ideal for the infrastructure that charging stations heavily rely on.
The first higher-voltage EV is the Porsche Taycan, which has a cutting-edge 800V inverter built-in. Its DC charging rate can go as high as 270 kW with the proper charging setup. After that Hyundai and Kia developed an alternative 800V charging tech to avoid using an expensive 800V SiC inverter. In late 2021, Lucid Motors launched its first vehicle Lucid Air with an industry-leading 924V system developed by <a href="https://eepower.com/news/wolfspeed-announces-the-lucid-air-is-using-its-sic-power-modules/#">Wolfspeed</a>. And one year later, Tesla unveiled its first 1000V vehicle architecture with the launch of the tri-motor electric truck Tesla Semi. <a href="https://spectrum.ieee.org/ev-charging-800-volt">General Motors</a>, Volkswagen, and, of course, Chinese brands such as Aion, Avatr, Xpeng, Zeekr, BYD, Voyah and Li Auto have also been developing 800V high-voltage electrical systems for their EVs.

<h2>Faster Charging Compared to 400V Electric Vehicles</h2>

800V or higher voltage systems allow electric vehicles to be charged at as high as 480 kW, <a href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-g9-awd">Xpeng G9</a> proved. Regular 400V electric vehicles aren&#8217;t capable of doing that, because of the charging infrastructure&#8217;s current limit. When you plug your 400V vehicle into a DC charger, you limit your session to 400-volt. To provide faster charging speeds, EV charger should deliver more current, sometimes as high as 600A or even more (The third-gen Tesla Superchargers can deliver up to 660-amper). In order to increase the current, thicker and water-cooled cables are needed. Even using these expensive cables are not enough to lower down the charge efficiency, as conduction losses will increase up to nine times.
EV manufacturers have been developing 800V charging technologies to overcome this fast-charging problem. Some companies such as Porsche/Audi, Lucid Motors, and Xpeng use SiC inverters inside their EVs. These next-gen SiC inverters can handle higher voltages and also improve efficiency. Hyundai and Kia took a different approach to this matter. Korean automakers developed a technology that manages to provide 800-volt charging by using electric motors as generator and a regular IGBT inverter.
Thanks to more advanced electronics, 800-volt charging enables vehicle owners to reach up to 480 kW DC charging rates. For instance, Xpeng G9 and Aion LX Plus are already on sale that support ultra-fast 480+ kW charging. Lucid Air can go as high as 300 kW. Porsche Taycan did perform similiarly. Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 is also capable of delivering up to 240 kW DC charging speeds. 800V charging is definitely the future of EVs!
<h3>More Efficient &amp; More Powerful Electric Drivetrains</h3>

By switching to a 800V architecture, EV manufacturers can make use of higher voltage motors as well. Porsche is the first company to implement an 800V electric motor into its vehicles. Higher voltage improves overall power density of the motor unit and it reduces the maximum torque required to achieve the same output power due to extended RPM range.
As the DC link voltage of the EV motor units increase, the current levels decrease. This leads to lower copper loss and improves efficiency of the electrical traction systems. Higher voltage motors are also tend to produce more power than lower voltage solutions.
From the efficiency perspective, the next-gen SiC inverters used inside 800V electric vehicles are also much more efficient. <a href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-yangwang-u8">BYD recently unveiled</a> its first SiC inverter developed in-house, which scores an efficiency level of 99.5 percent.
<h3>800V Architectures Mean Lighter Electric Cars</h3>

The revolutionary STLA 400-volt electrical system, which powers an all-wheel-drive engine with two motors, lies at the heart of the Avenger. Its specifications have not yet been disclosed, although it will undoubtedly be more powerful than the front-wheel-drive Avenger. The Avenger was created from the ground up to be a Jeep vehicle, and the all-electric 4&#215;2 model already features some of the industry-leading features that distinguish the Jeep&#8217;s identity. The release date and specifications for the all-wheel drive Avenger were not provided by Jeep. The CEO of McLaren said that he wouldn&#8217;t want to produce an electric supercar using today&#8217;s modern lithium-ion batteries simply because it would cost too much and not handle as effectively as an ICE or hybrid McLaren. However, an electric SUV or &#8220;limousine&#8221; might be acceptable, since handling wouldn&#8217;t be as crucial and it could make it highly strong.
It&#8217;s plausible to conclude that Leiters meant &#8220;a car for family purposes&#8221; to refer to an SUV even though he never specifically said such a vehicle was in the works. Admittedly, Leiters had served for Ferrari, wherein his final project was the Purosangue, before joining McLaren. Additionally, Leiters worked as a project manager at Porsche before joining Ferrari, where he contributed to Cayenne&#8217;s development.
Financially speaking, a &#8220;Super SUV&#8221; is an excellent idea for McLaren. Other supercar manufacturers have launched SUVs with remarkable success. Making an SUV would surely be a wise choice given McLaren&#8217;s continued financial difficulties.

Dongfeng Motor has partnered up with Huawei to globalize its SERES-branded electric vehicles. Israel is one of the first places they went to sell EVs. The first vehicle made into the country is an electric crossover called SERES 3. It offers up to 405 kilometers of range when fully charged. It&#8217;s not particularly powerful as the new MG ZS EV with a 119 kW front motor, but it has a large boot compared to other options.

9 Affordable Chinese EVs Available in Israel

Chinese-American battery manufacturer Farasis announced its new strategy and a new high-nickel battery product at a press event in Beijing. The next-gen lithium-ion battery is called SPS, or &#8220;Super Pouch Solution&#8221;. As the name suggests, Farasis is switching to CTP (Cell-to-Pack) battery design with bigger pouch cells. This new design will allow EVs using the latest cells from Farasis to travel up to 400 kilometers with 10 minutes of charging. Super Pouch will also support the direct-recycling process developed by the battery maker.

Thanks to the bigger, thicker pouch-cell form factor, Super Pouch batteries will reach a gravimetric pack-level energy density of 330 Wh/kg. Farasis confirmed that its new NMC cell will support 800V electrical architecture, up to 4C discharge rates, and 300-350 kW DC charging speeds that will allow 400 kilometers of range with a 10-minute charging session.
The module-less battery pack will include a two-sided liquid cooling system and heat dissipation plates on three sides of every pouch cell. Advanced thermal management system will not only quadruple heat dissipation efficiency but also extend battery life to more than 3,000 cycles.
Horizontally placed big pouch cells will allow Farasis to decrease the number of battery parts by 50%, reduce material costs by up to 33%, and increase volume utilization to 75%. The compact battery pack will be able to hold off more than 90 percent of its energy capacity in extreme cold weather conditions (-20 Celcius).

Currently, Farasis only offers high-nickel NMC811 and NMC622 pouch cells. With the new strategy, Chinese company will add some competitive options to its product portfolio, such as LFP, high-manganese NMC, and low-cost sodium-ion battery cells.
Thanks to a much improved semi-solid electrolyte and silicone anode, Farasis will be able to produce NMC cells with 300 to 400 Wh/kg energy density. After switching to a fully solid-state electrolyte in 2028, energy density levels will reach as far as 500 Wh/kilogram, which will hopefully be enough to be used in the aviation industry.
Next year, Farasis is getting into the LFP wagon as well. They will not only produce lithium-iron-phosphate batteries but also offer more energy-dense LMFP (Lithium manganese-iron-phosphate) cells. The energy density level will vary between 200 to 240 Wh/kg. These will not be the cheapest option Farasis will provide. Sodium-ion battery production is also due in 2023 with an energy density of 160 Wh/kg. Farasis predicts that its sodium-ion cells will be best for energy storage applications and entry-level EVs. Energy density-wise, these cells will go as high as 230 Wh/kg by 2030.
<h2>Battery Plants Will Cost Less, Thanks to Improved Battery Tech</h2>

Improved battery chemistry and much higher energy density will allow Farasis to cut manufacturing equipment costs by 50 percent. Super Pouch-producing factories will also require 60% less space for the same amount of battery production output.
Farasis also said that new battery plants will consume 35% less energy and lower production costs by 30%. Chinese company has agreed to open a battery plant in Turkey with domestic EV brand <a href="https://www.licarco.com/togg-c-suv">Togg</a>. This new plant will definitely produce next-gen pouch cells from Farasis starting in 2025. <a href="https://www.licarco.com/zeekr-001-single-motor-we">Geely</a> also established a joint venture with Farasis to construct multiple battery cell production sites and co-develop future battery technologies. Both of these partners will make use of Super Pouch&#8217;s cost-cutting, energy-dense design.

<h2>Raised $28 Million In A Seed Round</h2>
&#8220;EVage has just raised $28 million in a seed round (one of the largest in India), driven by new US-based VC RedBlue Capital. It will use the funds to complete its production-ready factory outside of Delhi in the last two quarters of 2022. EVage aims to scale up production to meet growing demand. By the end of the year, there are plans to fulfill orders for customers in the FMCG/Logistics/E-commerce sectors.
Nitin Gadkari, India&#8217;s Transport Minister, has set an ambitious target of 30 percent private cars, 40 percent buses, 80 percent two- and three-wheelers, and 70 percent commercial vehicles being electric by 2030. Mr. Gadkari also unveiled the EVage vehicle for Amazon&#8217;s fleet at the Amazon Smbhav Summit 2021 in April of last year.
This year, EVage plans to introduce Model.X delivery vans with a ton capacity. This is the most popular payload in the small commercial segment.
