Xpeng G6 is China&#8217;s strongest answer to global best seller Tesla Model Y in recent years. Polestar 6 is the production version of the highly popular concept called Polestar O2. It will be based on Swedish automaker&#8217;s in-house vehicle platform. This new platform will allow Volvo to use giant castings like Tesla&#8217;s Giga Press. Future Polestar and Volvo EVs, including Polestar 6, will be much lighter than current generation models.

The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

The BYD Seal U Has Been Launched in China with a Price Starting at $18,040

⚡#BYD has revamped its popular electric sedan Han, which sold 220,000 units last year. The 2024 version of the car has been launched in China with a starting price of $25,000.
🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.
🚗 Equipped with LiDAR sensor-based autonomous driving mode, a new infotainment system powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and numerous interior design changes, the exact price of the 001 will be revealed upon its release on February 27th.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

⚡Magnesium is 75% lighter than steel and approximately 33% lighter than aluminum,. It will soon begin to be used in automobile chassis production.
🟢Today, magnesium casting machines are generally used in the production of parts weighing a few kilograms. LK Machinery and iDRA have made significant technological developments in this field. Both announced that they can produce magnesium casting parts up to 20 kg with their new machine called &#8216;Giga Plast&#8217;, paving the way for its use in the automotive industry. South Korean Hyundai is working on modeling a new electric vehicle production method inspired by Tesla&#8217;s &#8216;Giga Casting&#8216;. The new method aims to significantly reduce the cost and increase the production speed significantly.
Since it was introduced at the Fremont factory in 2020, the method has also begun to be implemented in Tesla&#8217;s facilities in China and Germany. Both the front and rear chassis of Model Y and the new Model 3 are produced in one piece. Hyundai has decided to develop its own casting, processing and assembly facility with production planning for 2026. The company also applied for the &#8220;hypercasting&#8221; trademark to the US Patent and Trademark Office on August 21, 2023. <h2>How Many Cybertruck Will Be Made?</h2>
According to Tesla, Giga Texas is the only production plant for the Cybertruck. During Tesla&#8217;s 2023 Annual Shareholder Meeting, Elon Musk revealed that Tesla will produce anywhere between 250,000 to 500,000 Cybertrucks annually. Giga Texas will probably provide half of the planned Cybertruck production capacity. The other half ought to be reserved for another facility. But there are no plans for existing Tesla gigafactories to be involved in the electric pickup truck&#8217;s production. 
Tesla&#8217;s recent announcement confirms that Giga Texas currently produces 5,000 Model Ys in a single week, which translates to an annual production of 250,000 vehicles. When the Cybertruck production starts on its separate production line, the factory&#8217;s output will get closer to its initial goal of 500K.

Tesla still has a long way forward to be the production giant Elon wants it to become. There are four EV manufacturing plants that Tesla operates today; Fremont, Giga Shanghai, Giga Berlin, and Giga Texas. The automaker will build 6 to 8 more gigafactories in the future. Each factory will be designed to handle at least 1 to 2 million EV production annually. There is no certain timetable for the future factories but Elon heavily hinted that Tesla is looking for a third EV factory location in the North America region, including Canada, Mexico, and United States.
From what we understand, Tesla is certainly planning on increasing its annual output to almost 20 million vehicles in the next decade. This figure will make Tesla become the world&#8217;s biggest automaker. The company will not only produce passenger cars but also electric trucks, pick-ups, and MPVs as well.

EV sales continue to grow and have reached a record high in Q2 with a 13% increase. Tesla as a customer of Panasonic is the leader in sales. To meet such high demand for batteries, Panasonic is trying to double down its production. The company published plans in April to invest 400 billion yen (approximately $2.9 billion) in “growth areas” including automotive batteries and supply chain software.
In December, Panasonic Energy of North America announced that a production facility is planned to be built in Reno, Nevada in addition to its existing production at Tesla’s Gigafactory 1 site in Sparks, Nevada.

The Japanese giant has another plan to increase its battery production: a new EV battery plant in Kansas. The governor&#8217;s office of Kansas stated in a press release that Panasonic has picked De Soto, Kansas for its new project that will bring up to $4 billion in investments and create up to 8,000 jobs.
In the press release, it is stated that the Attracting Powerful Economic Expansion Act (SB 347), or APEX Act is the motivation for the incentive decision. “When the Kansas Legislature passed the APEX legislation, this was the kind of megaproject we had in mind,” Representative Ron Ryckman of Kansas said.
After the deal between Panasonic and Kansas State is signed, the governor’s office has revealed the details of the $829.2-million incentive package that includes a $500 million investment tax credit that stretches over five years and a $234 million payroll rebate paid over 10 years, among other sweeteners.
The new factory in De Soto is planned to be larger than Panasonic and Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada. Panasonic announced in February that the mass production of lithium-ion batteries for Tesla is planned to begin by 2024.

A $4-billion EV battery plant by Panasonic will be built in Kansas

Volvo is committed to its objective to produce only electric cars by 2030, and these EVs will be manufactured with the new mega-casting technology. The Swedish carmaker will upgrade its Torslander factory near Gothenburg with a €1.1 billion investment to make it ready for the next decade.
The new technology will allow the company to mold a big part of the car with as many components built into the panel as possible, and this helps to reduce the complexity of the main assembly. It was also used in Tesla’s <a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars/2021-tesla-model-y-performance/">Model Y</a> electric SUV. Elon Musk called it the Giga Press. This new process not only simplifies the production of the vehicle but also helps manufacturers ease the final assembly workload.
Volvo released a statement on February 8;
“With its next generation of pure electric cars, Volvo Cars aims to offer customers a longer range, quicker charging, lower costs, and reach new milestones in automotive safety and sustainability. To realize these ambitions, Volvo Cars will invest [€1.1 billion] in its Torslander manufacturing plant in Sweden in coming years in preparation for the production of that next generation of fully electric cars.”
The company is also planning to introduce new technologies for the production processes of its new cars as part of the investments in the Torslander plant. The mega casting of aluminum body parts, a new battery assembly plant, a newly designed paint shop, and final assembly shops will also be introduced.

The most important one is the introduction of mega-casting of aluminum body parts because it offers many advantages in terms of sustainability, cost, and car performance during its lifetime, and Volvo Cars is one of the first carmakers to invest in this process.
For sustainability, it will allow the company to curtail its emissions. Dr. Mikael Fermér, Volvo’s lead engineer for the mega-casting project, said: “if we look at the CO2 emissions of producing a steel floor with a cast aluminum floor, it’s a major reduction. So that’s important also.”
Fermér then discussed the cost. “We say the cost for a cast aluminum floor and a steel floor is ballpark the same,” he said, “but you always have benefits. We have a weight reduction for instance, but also one thing that I think is important is the design flexibility that you get.”

Last year, Elon Musk started talking about high-pressure casting, and instantly it became popular among other car manufacturers. Recently, six Chinese automakers publicly confirmed that they intend to adopt the technology in the production of their cars. One of the six companies is Geely, which is the owner of Volvo.
The Volvo elaborated on the reason why they decide to adopt the casting technique:
“Casting major parts of the floor structure of the car as one single aluminum part reduces weight, which in turn improves the energy efficiency and thereby the electric range of the car. This also allows Volvo designers to optimally use the available space inside the cabin and luggage area, boosting the overall versatility of the car.”
The adoption of the high-pressure casting technology by many EV manufacturers shows that Tesla has a high impact on the automobile world, and Elon Musk is one of the most influential personalities of the current century.
The automobile industry would eventually embrace the high-pressure casting technology, but its adoption by Tesla has sped up the adoption process for the whole industry. Volvo is the most recent company that followed Tesla into this new technological transformation.
