Volkswagen ID.5 and ID.5 GTX are the first electric coupe vehicles that the German carmaker unveiled. ID.5 is based on Volkswagen&#8217;s latest modular EV platform called MEB. It is the coupe version of the electric SUV <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/volkswagen-id-4-pro-s-awd/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">VW ID.4</a>. Coupe-style EV will be offered in three versions; ID.5 Pro, ID.5 Pro Performance, the sportier version ID.5 GTX.
ID.5 Pro and Pro Performance come with a single-motor setup that produces up to 204 HP, 310 Nm of torque. On the other hand, ID.5 GTX has an all-wheel-drive system with dual electric motors. GTX version can produce 299 HP and 472 Nm torque. All versions of the ID.5 are equipped with a 77-kWh battery pack. VW ID.5 production will start at German automaker&#8217;s Zwickau factory in Germany.

Cupra Born is the first electric vehicle that Seat’s sub-brand will be launching later in the 2021. It is a fully electric hatchback packed with an 82-kWh battery. Cupra Born will be one of the first performance-oriented EV that use the Volkswagen Group’s EV-dedicated modular platform called MEB.
There are three version of this car: Born 45, Born 58, and Born 77. These numbers point out the useable battery capacity. Motor power also vary between these versions. It is being manufactured in Germany at the same factory VW ID.3 and ID.4 are assembled. Cupra Born will be available starting from November 2021 and it will be sold in most of the European countries.
<h2>Performance</h2>
Cupra Born 45 comes with a 150 HP, 310 Nm torque front wheel drive electric motor. It can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. Born 58 is much faster with its 7.3 seconds acceleration performance, as it offers 204 horsepower.
Cupra Born 77 will be the highest on the range coming in 2022. It can produce up to 231 HP and reach 0-100 km/h in 6,6 with boost mode. Other technical details of this variant will be announced later.
<h2>Design and Features</h2>
Cupra Born is the sportier version of the VW ID.3, front and back bumpers of the vehicle look very aggressive. On the C-pillar, there are matte black patterns on the C-pillar.
Door panels are half hard plastic and half microfiber material. Dashboard, on the other hand, is soft to the touch and looks very cool. Unlike exterior, interior of the Cupra Born does resemble VW ID.3 a lot. Center display and digital gauge cluster look very similar.
There are lots of capacitive buttons inside the vehicle, as the latest Volkswagen cars also have. That’s not very practical for a performance car, especially the buttons on the steering wheel are prone to accidental touches.
Sports seats look wonderful, and colors used on the interior stuff are really fascinating to look at. The Born is a comfortable car as much as a hatchback can be, and there is enough space for passengers in the back to enjoy the instant torque of this small electric vehicle.
There are USB ports and also wireless charging pad for the mobile devices. The 12-inch infotainment system offers Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wirelessly. You can enjoy the contents from your smartphone with the Beats audio system, as well.
<h2>Range and Charging</h2>
Cupra Born will offer three battery pack options: 45 kWh, 58 kWh, 77 kWh. Ranges according to WLTP cycle are 349 km, 421 km, and 548 km, respectively.
Electric hatchback supports 100 kW DC charging, %0 to %80 in 31-35 minutes. Born 77 will probably be able charged at 125 kW rates. Base model Born 45 only supports 7.2 kW AC plugs, Born 58 and 77 does include an 11 kW on-board AC charger, bringing the full charge time to a little over 6 hours.

The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

The BYD Seal U Has Been Launched in China with a Price Starting at $18,040

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Volkswagen made a mess with the first steps of its electrification plan. Herbert Diess, former VW CEO paid the price with his job last year. Now there is a new man in charge, who happens to admire the German carmaker&#8217;s popular model series. After revamping the EV software project, Volkswagen&#8217;s new boss Oliver Blume now officially confirmed that his firm&#8217;s global models, such as Tiguan, will get an all-electric variant.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended a works council meeting yesterday at Volkswagen&#8217;s headquarters in Wolfsburg. The exciting part is VW&#8217;s announcement regarding the electric Tiguan.
A spokesperson confirmed the Tiguan EV, which will probably be called ID. Tiguan, will enter production at the Wolfsburg factory in 2026. It will most likely be an ID.4 replacement. So, we expect a similarly sized and priced electric SUV.
The new Tiguan will be based on the German automaker&#8217;s recently updated EV-dedicated platform called MEB-Plus. This new modular architecture will be able to work with low-cost <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/lithium-ion-battery-cell-types-lfp-nmc-cells-explained" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LFP batteries</a>. Thanks to new battery options, Volkswagen will not only make cheaper EVs but also build models with more than 700 kilometers of range. ID. Tiguan could offer that much range and also support 200-kW DC charging, according to rumors.
<h2>Fully Electric Golf is Coming Back</h2>

The second good news is about electric Golf. It originally entered the market in 2014, then six years later discontinued after the ID.3&#8217;s highly-anticipated launch. VW&#8217;s Oliver Blume rumoredly made the product team ditch ID.2 plans for a new Golf EV. Now it is hopefully back in the game with a new name: ID. Golf.
Blume acknowledges that Golf is an icon and it should be brought into the electric age. For the purpose of doing that, the VW team has completely redesigned the ID.2. It will be based on the same platform as the electric Tiguan, which is called MEB-Plus. 
Rumors suggest that the first concept named as ID. Life will debut this March. The production of the next-gen e-Golf will hopefully start in 2025. After launching ID. Tiguan and ID. Golf, the next step of Volkswagen&#8217;s electrification plan is to build its flagship EV codenamed Trinity. Customers will have to wait for a couple of more years for Germany&#8217;s so-called &#8216;Tesla killer&#8217;.

Skoda officially confirms that its most popular vehicle will go electric. Development of the fully-electric Octavia is underway, according to CEO Klaus Zellmer&#8217;s statement published by <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/all-electric-octavia-being-developed-skoda" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Autocar</a>.

Octavia is the best-selling model of the Czech firm and it will definitely be around after Europe&#8217;s ICE car sales ban in 2035. Skoda aims to generate 70 percent of its profit from fully-electric vehicles by 2030. Octavia will be one of those vehicles. But Zellmer didn&#8217;t rule out the possibility of another generation of ICE and plug-in hybrid Octavia models for some yet-to-be electrified markets.
<a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://licarco.com/skoda-enyaq-iv-80" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Enyaq iV</a> and <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://licarco.com/skoda-enyaq-coupe-rs-iv" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Enyaq Coupe iV</a> are the first next-gen EVs Skoda launched into the market. Over the next four years, the European carmaker will launch five more vehicles including the electric Octavia. C-segment sedan will use Volkswagen&#8217;s new electric-only platform called SSP, unlike MEB-based Enyaq iV and other VW Group EVs.

Alongside the electric Octavia, the Czech firm will launch a mini-SUV, which is going to replace the current generation B-segment hatchback Fabia. There will also be a 7-seater large-size SUV that will be based on Skoda&#8217;s recently announced concept called Vision 7S. Skoda will cover almost every category of the EV market by releasing a crossover SUV and an urban EV by 2026. These vehicles will look more rugged, just like the automaker&#8217;s new design language shown in the form of an SUV concept earlier this month.
Specs-wise, there is nothing official to report right now. But it is clear that Skoda wants us to take a clue from the Vision 7S concept, which has an 89-kWh battery pack, 600+ kilometers of WLTP range, and 200 kW DC charging support. Electric Octavia will most likely be one of the most competitive C-sedan with this configuration.

<h2>The Scout is coming back for the US Market</h2>
VW is one of the world&#8217;s largest car manufacturers, but its share in the US market is relatively small. The plan of bringing the Scout back as an electric off-road brand is to win over the US auto market, where trucks and SUVs are highly demanded. This is the first time that Volkswagen has created a distinct brand focused on the US.
The teaser images of the Scout&#8216;s forthcoming pick-up truck and SUV are recently released. They both feature clean, boxy proportions, chunky off-road tires, and a raised ground clearance. Both vehicles don’t have a traditional powertrain and it enabled very short overhangs, except for the pick-up which has an extended load bay.
For the Scout, Volkswagen will not use the MEB electric architecture which establishes the company’s electric ID range. Alternatively, they will use a new technical platform concept for the offroad EVs of its new brand.
The new lineup of the Scout will be designed entirely for US customers and the price tag will possibly be around $40,000 which is lower than its rivals like Ford F150 Lightning and Chevrolet Silverado. The German manufacturer claims that the prototypes will be released next year, and the first Scouts will be ready in 2026.

The Scout was first introduced in 1961 by International Harvester as a small, two-door SUV which was produced to be a rival to Jeep. The Scout and second-generation Scout II were produced in Fort Wayne, Indiana, as two-door trucks with a removable hardtop. Production stopped in 1980, and VW acquired the rights to the brand when it bought Navistar International in 2020. (Navistar was created in 1985 when International Harvester went out of business.
Volkswagen is set to invest $1 billion into the new Scout brand. The investments will probably include building a new manufacturing plant and hiring a whole new pile of US-based executives. The company may also seek outside financing for the project, with the possibility of listing the subsidiary on the public markets once it’s up and running.
Nevertheless, the German manufacturer will have to deal with the global supply chain problem, battery material shortages, and high inflation in the coming years. Herbert Diess, the CEO, recently stated that the company has already been sold out on all EVs both in Europe and the US for the year. It means that people hoping to buy an EV from the VW group may have to wait till 2023 because the company is still trying to solve the chip shortage and production issues due to COVID restrictions in China.

Volkswagen to Revive the Scout as an EV brand

Volkswagen lately announced plans to expand the MEB ( German: Modularer E-Antriebs-Baukasten; English: modular electric-drive toolkit) platform&#8217;s reachable range to 700 km (435 miles).
