Chinese electric vehicle brands are a top priority at Licarco because the EV market has become increasingly dominated by pure electric Chinese cars. Last year, China sold more EVs than the rest of the world. BYD, NIO, ORA, and Geely are some of the biggest Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
Even though China has been producing millions of EVs for years, American drivers wouldn&#8217;t be able to buy one. It&#8217;s because vehicles made in China are subjected to a %27.5 import tariff in the US. Due to heavy taxation, Chinese brands had not prioritized the US auto market in their global plans. But that&#8217;s changing quickly, as more and more Chinese EV marques are expanding their reach towards western markets, including United States.
In this article, we gathered a list of Chinese EV brands and their expansion plans. We will update this post when an announcement is made regarding any Chinese EV maker&#8217;s global expansion.

Leapmotor, an emerging EV brand backed by Dahua Technology, has plans to enter the European market in 2023. The brand officials confirmed that Leapmotor would open showrooms in Europe. To finance its globalization plans, Hangzhou-based carmaker filed its first IPO that worths around $1.5bn at Hong Kong Exchange.
The brand has already started to sell electric vehicles in Turkey and Israel, starting with the compact hatchback called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-t03" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor T03</a>. The first EV to be showcased in Europe will probably be the electric sedan C01. With its sleek design, cell-to-chassis technology, and impressive performance figures, <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-c01" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor C01</a> will attract a lot of customers.

BYD first entered Norway with the full-size electric SUV called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-tang-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tang EV</a>. Over the next months, China&#8217;s biggest EV manufacturer will start selling vehicles all over the world. BYD EVs are already available in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. European countries where BYD will start operations before the end of 2022 are the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden.
BYD will export these three electric vehicle models to Old Continent; compact electric SUV <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-atto-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Atto 3</a>, electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-han-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Han EV</a>, and BYD Tang EV. India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will also be subject to BYD&#8217;s global expansion, as official statements confirmed.
Unfortunately, BYD has no plans to enter the American market yet. But there is a possibility of Chinese EV maker using its new premium brand, which reportedly will deliver a $145K+ luxury EV to the market, to attract customers from United States.

NIO is one of the first Chinese automakers, which officially confirms its entry into the US market. NIO-branded EVs will be on sale in the US starting in 2025. Large-size SUV ES8 is currently being tested on US roads. There is no official timeline for the US launch, though.
Chinese EV marque will also start selling EVs in Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The next move on the global plans is to enter more European markets such as Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. NIO is hoping to sell electric vehicles in 25 countries by 2025.

In February 2022, Xpeng opened its first showroom in Stockholm, Sweden. Guangzhou-based company will start selling EVs in Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden before the year ends. The company&#8217;s first offering will be the mid-range electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p5-600p" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P5</a>.
Xpeng expects half of its electric vehicle sales in 2025 to come from outside of China. Europe is its first choice but customers from the US will eventually get a taste of Xpeng&#8217;s popular cars in the near future. Chinese brand signed a dealership agreement with a Turkish company to sell EVs in Turkey as well. The first vehicle to be put on sale in Turkey will be <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p7-4wd-high-performance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P7</a>.

Geely is a global automotive group. There are brands under the Geely Group that sell vehicles all over the world. Zeekr will be joining those brands next year by entering the European market. EV-only brand will make it official in early 2023, as Zeekr announced.
Zeekr has only one model on sale called Zeekr 001, but it has plans to launch a total of seven EVs by 2025. Its 2025 sales goal in Europe is 100,000 vehicles. There is no word whether Zeekr will sell EVs in Scandinavia, western/or eastern Europe. Follow us for more details.

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially entered the United Kingdom and Germany with its EV-only brand ORA. GWM introduced the first vehicles to be put on sale in Europe earlier this year. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/ora-cat-64-kwh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ORA Cat/Funky Cat</a> is the first one for the western market.
The company appoints Emil Frey to distribute vehicles starting in Germany. That is not the first time GWM to choose Germany for its global expansion. Chinese automaker&#8217;s battery division SVOLT opened a battery plant in Germany as well. Recently SVOLT announced its second investment worth €2.0bn, which would enable them to produce lithium-ion battery cells directly in the country.

If you want to play games with an Xbox controller on your Tesla, use a data cable (not a charge-only USB cable that lacks the data transfer function) to plug your controller into your Tesla Model 3/Y&#8217;s main screen via the USB-C ports in the center console or the USB-A port in the glove box. If you prefer a wireless connection, or your controller cannot be connected to your Tesla via cable, just follow our guide down below.
Step 1. Buy a wireless adapter/dongle for pairing your Xbox controller. <a href="https://amzn.to/3HCaTTv">8Bitdo Wireless USB Adapter 2</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/3jyyigK">MAYFLASH Magic NS 2</a> are two of the most popular choices.
Step 2. Plug the wireless adapter into your Tesla via USB data ports. Use a USB-A to USB-C adapter if necessary. Please be aware that newer Model 3/Y vehicles don&#8217;t have USB data ports in the center console. You will need to use the USB-A port inside the glove compartment.
Step 3. Put your wireless adapter into pairing mode. 8Bitdo&#8217;s pairing button is on the bottom, whereas the Magic NS&#8217;s pairing mode can be activated by pressing the black button on the side until the light goes green and blinks fast.

Step 4. In order to put your controller into pairing mode, first press the Xbox button for one second until it lights up. Then, press and hold the circular pair button located on the back of the controller for three seconds.
Step 5. Once the wireless adapter and Xbox controller ared paired up, the lights on both of these devices will stop blinking. You will see a notification message on your Tesla&#8217;s screen that confirms the pairing.

Sometimes it gets annoying or makes no sense on some occasions. There is an option to turn it off, but things get complicated with <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-cars-have-been-sold">Tesla vehicles</a>. Let us explain.
If you want to turn off regenerative braking on your Tesla, you probably won&#8217;t find any disabling option in the menu. Because turning off regenerative braking is not possible on a Tesla. It is also impossible to adjust the regen on Tesla vehicles built since Q2 2020. Tesla Model S/3/X/Y vehicles built before that date can still be able to offer adjustments. You just need to navigate through the main screen and go to Driving, then change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; to &#8216;Low&#8217; for reducing the level of regenerative braking.
Newer Tesla vehicles come with standard level regen as default. There is no &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; adjustment option anymore. So, why wouldn&#8217;t Tesla allow its drivers to adjust regenerative braking? The main reason is that the vehicle range is heavily affected by not being able to recuperate the energy you otherwise lost to heat, etc by pressing the brake pedal. Other automakers agree with Tesla as well. You just need to go to settings, then select the &#8216;Driving&#8217; menu from the left and change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; option to &#8216;Low&#8217; for partially turning off the regen.
You won&#8217;t be able to turn off this feature. There is, however, a way to heavily limit the effects of regen braking. Here&#8217;s how:

If you live in a cold area or your battery is fully charged, your Tesla vehicle would warn you about the regenerative braking is being limited. That&#8217;s because the battery is unable to receive the energy from the regen system and the battery&#8217;s management system temporarily turns off the regenerative braking feature. In order to reduce the negative effects of this limitation, you can enable an extra feature for automatically applying the brake pedals instead of regen braking. Leapmotor T03 is a small-size electric hatchback first hit the market in May 2020. It is the second EV that Dahua-backed EV start-up built and launched. Chinese company recently announced that Leapmotor T03 has passed the European Union&#8217;s Whole Vehicle Type Approval and it is ready to be sold in EU. Dongfeng Motor has partnered up with Huawei to globalize its SERES-branded electric vehicles. Israel is one of the first places they went to sell EVs. The first vehicle made into the country is an electric crossover called SERES 3. It offers up to 405 kilometers of range when fully charged. 9 Affordable Chinese EVs Available in Israel

Turkey&#8217;s first domestic car project finally hit its stride. Togg, the Turkish EV maker established in 2018, officially announced today that their first electric vehicle is ready to be launched. Pre-orders will start March 16th.
Togg&#8217;s first vehicle is called Togg T10X. It&#8217;s an all-electric C-SUV co-designed by Italian Pininfarina and Volkswagen&#8217;s former head of designer Murat Gunak. The compact vehicle is almost 4,6 meters long, and 1,836 milimeters wide.
Since 2018, Togg&#8217;s Turkish shareholders (Zorlu Holding, Turkcell, BMC, Anadolu Isuzu) spent around €1.8 billion, constructed a huge production facility from stratch in Bursa, a northwestern industrial city. Togg has started trial production back in October 2022, a fleet of Togg vehicles have been on the roads for testing ever since.

Initially, Togg T10X will be offered in two variants: T10X V1 RWD Standard Range and T10X V2 RWD Long Range. These models have 52.4-kWh and 88.5-kWh battery packs, respectively. Chinese Farasis signed an agreement with the Turkish EV maker to supply battery cells and also establish a joint venture for producing battery products locally in Turkey. At first, those packs will be imported from China. After Farasis and Togg&#8217;s joint battery plant starts operation, Turkish EV will feature locally-made battery cells.
The powertrain consists of an 160-kW electric motor located in the rear axle. T10X can produce up to 350 Nm of torque and accelerate from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 7.8 seconds. (7.4 sec for the standard range variant)
T10X&#8217;s WLTP range is 532 kilometers. The standard range version offers only 314 km. It supports up to 180-kW DC and 11-kW AC charging. It takes 28 minutes to charge from 20 to 80 percent. The T10X Launch Edition doubles the AC charging speed as it comes with a 22-kW charger.

Togg T10X&#8217;s starting price is $49,300 (€45,990) in Turkey. The long range model costs even more at $64,000 (€59,750). Deliveries will beging in April 2023. Togg officially confirmed that they will produce around 20,000 EVs this year. The annual production capacity is expected to hit 175,000 in the next couple of years.

According to recent statements from Togg CEO M. Gurcan Karakas, company&#8217;s first vehicle will hit European shores sometime in the second half of 2024. Togg T10X will probably cost less than what Togg&#8217;s asking in Turkey. That&#8217;s because of the considerably higher tax rates on automobiles in the country.
Last year, Turkish automaker has started its global expansion by setting up its Germany branch in Stuttgart. They also have been eying for a whole vehicle type approval in Europe. Togg T10X will probably be ready to go on sale by the year&#8217;s end.

Turkish EV Maker Launches Its First Model Togg T10X

Turkey&#8217;s domestic car Togg&#8217;s factory &#8220;Togg Gemlik Campus&#8221; was officially opened with a ceremony held in Gemlik on 29 October.
Turkey&#8217;s Automobile Initiative Group (Togg), unveiled the first prototypes of the domestic car in January 2019. The factory, which started being built on July 18, 2020, was completed in a short time of 2 years and trial production started in July 2022.
As of October 29, 2022, Turkey&#8217;s domestic automobile factory was officially opened. At the opening ceremony of the factory, which is called “Togg Gemlik Campus”, President Erdogan officially gave a start for mass production by unloading the first Togg C-SUV vehicle from the production line.
The first smart device to come off the production line was the “Anatolian Red” vehicle. CEO Gürcan Karakaş and President Erdogan took the smart device off the line and drove it to the hall.
<h2>President Erdogan Announces When Togg Will be Released</h2>
Speaking at the opening ceremony of Togg&#8217;s Gemlik Campus, President Erdoğan announced that Turkey&#8217;s domestic car, Togg C-SUV, will be on the roads by the end of March 2023. Speaking about the price of Togg, the President stated that the prices will become clear in February.

When the Gemlik Campus reaches full capacity, 175,000 vehicles will be produced annually. President Erdogan stated that the foundation of the lithium-ion battery factory of Siro Clean Energy Solutions, in which Togg is a partner with Farasis Energy, will be laid soon. The battery factory will be built on a land of 690 decares.
<h2>Pre-Orders Will Start in February 2023</h2>
President Erdogan announced that pre-orders for the Togg C-SUV will start to be taken as of February 2023. Togg Chairman of the Board Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu presented the pre-order document prepared with blockchain technology to President Erdoğan, who placed the first pre-order.
In addition, Hisarcıklıoğlu announced that the first &#8220;Anatolian&#8221; red model and &#8220;Pamukkale&#8221; white model that were taken off the production line will be sent to be exhibited at the Presidential Complex.
It was also announced that smart devices will be delivered to buyers through physical and digital delivery in an “intermediate-free” manner.

12 Largest EV Battery Manufacturers in the World

Chinese-American battery manufacturer Farasis announced its new strategy and a new high-nickel battery product at a press event in Beijing. The next-gen lithium-ion battery is called SPS, or &#8220;Super Pouch Solution&#8221;. As the name suggests, Farasis is switching to CTP (Cell-to-Pack) battery design with bigger pouch cells. This new design will allow EVs using the latest cells from Farasis to travel up to 400 kilometers with 10 minutes of charging. Super Pouch will also support the direct-recycling process developed by the battery maker.

Thanks to the bigger, thicker pouch-cell form factor, Super Pouch batteries will reach a gravimetric pack-level energy density of 330 Wh/kg. Farasis confirmed that its new NMC cell will support 800V electrical architecture, up to 4C discharge rates, and 300-350 kW DC charging speeds that will allow 400 kilometers of range with a 10-minute charging session.
The module-less battery pack will include a two-sided liquid cooling system and heat dissipation plates on three sides of every pouch cell. Advanced thermal management system will not only quadruple heat dissipation efficiency but also extend battery life to more than 3,000 cycles.
Horizontally placed big pouch cells will allow Farasis to decrease the number of battery parts by 50%, reduce material costs by up to 33%, and increase volume utilization to 75%. The compact battery pack will be able to hold off more than 90 percent of its energy capacity in extreme cold weather conditions (-20 Celcius).

Currently, Farasis only offers high-nickel NMC811 and NMC622 pouch cells. With the new strategy, Chinese company will add some competitive options to its product portfolio, such as LFP, high-manganese NMC, and low-cost sodium-ion battery cells.
Thanks to a much improved semi-solid electrolyte and silicone anode, Farasis will be able to produce NMC cells with 300 to 400 Wh/kg energy density. After switching to a fully solid-state electrolyte in 2028, energy density levels will reach as far as 500 Wh/kilogram, which will hopefully be enough to be used in the aviation industry.
Next year, Farasis is getting into the LFP wagon as well. They will not only produce lithium-iron-phosphate batteries but also offer more energy-dense LMFP (Lithium manganese-iron-phosphate) cells. The energy density level will vary between 200 to 240 Wh/kg. These will not be the cheapest option Farasis will provide. Sodium-ion battery production is also due in 2023 with an energy density of 160 Wh/kg. Farasis predicts that its sodium-ion cells will be best for energy storage applications and entry-level EVs. Energy density-wise, these cells will go as high as 230 Wh/kg by 2030.
<h2>Battery Plants Will Cost Less, Thanks to Improved Battery Tech</h2>

Improved battery chemistry and much higher energy density will allow Farasis to cut manufacturing equipment costs by 50 percent. Super Pouch-producing factories will also require 60% less space for the same amount of battery production output.
Farasis also said that new battery plants will consume 35% less energy and lower production costs by 30%. Chinese company has agreed to open a battery plant in Turkey with domestic EV brand <a href="https://www.licarco.com/togg-c-suv">Togg</a>. This new plant will definitely produce next-gen pouch cells from Farasis starting in 2025. <a href="https://www.licarco.com/zeekr-001-single-motor-we">Geely</a> also established a joint venture with Farasis to construct multiple battery cell production sites and co-develop future battery technologies. Both of these partners will make use of Super Pouch&#8217;s cost-cutting, energy-dense design.

Farasis has been developing lithium-ion batteries ever since Yu Wang and Keith Kepler established their first company in 2002. After a dramatic transfer to China in 2009 and a collaboration with Mercedes-Benz, Farasis quickly became the industry&#8217;s one of the most successful battery start-ups in the early 2010s. It even made it into the world&#8217;s 10 largest battery manufacturers in 2017 and 2018. Even though it had early success in this emerging field, Farasis has yet to make its big leap forward. They have been struggling to ramp up production. With the new strategy, company&#8217;s offering will cover every customer&#8217;s needs from low-cost sodium-ion cells to high-nickel NMC batteries with silicon anode.
