The BYD Seal U Has Been Launched in China with a Price Starting at $18,040

⚡#BYD has revamped its popular electric sedan Han, which sold 220,000 units last year. The 2024 version of the car has been launched in China with a starting price of $25,000.
🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. 🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Electric Porsche Macan Leaked!

⚡Sodium ion battery startup Tiamat announced that it will establish a 5 GWh capacity factory in France.
🏭The company also managed to raise 22 million euros in investment in the last round led by #Stellantis. Tiamat&#8217;s second-generation sodium cells will be produced in the facility to be established.
🔋The sodium ion battery promises great potential as it can be charged at high speed, has a much longer lifespan compared to lithium-ion, does not lose range/performance in winter, and is much cheaper.
🟢 In addition to the cell with 140-160 Wh/kg energy density and 5C discharge value (full charge/discharge in 12 minutes), the French startup is developing another cell that can be charged in 6 minutes and maintain over 80% of its capacity even after 5,000 cycles.

At a press event in China, Chery announced how its upcoming electric sedan, the Sterra ES, has reached a range of 905 kilometers (CLTC).
The electric Chery, which comes with a new generation &#8216;Shenxing&#8217; battery manufactured by CATL, can offer a range of over 900 km according to Chinese standards with a 100 kWh capacity LFP solution. For Europe, this range is ~800 km.
First of all, Chery mentioned the aerodynamic design of the Sterra ES, stating that this sedan developed on the E0X platform is both aerodynamic and has the largest interior volume and trunk in its class. The vehicle even surpasses the Mercedes EQS, which comes with a drag coefficient of 0.209 Cd.

ZF develops a heated seat belt in the most compact way possible based on the request of the automobile industry. This solution can be quickly integrated into the mass production line of existing cars. It looks like a normal belt and is produced in a normal belt thickness.
According to the calculation of the German company, the electric car range, which decreases during the winter months, can be extended up to 15% thanks to this belt. The seat belt, which may instantly heat the driver or passenger&#8217;s upper body and waist, is not a new concept. In 2018, it was shared that Ford received a patent for a similar belt. ZF Heated Seat Belts to Increase Range in Electric Vehicles

Electric cars have lower driving ranges when temperatures drop below freezing. The anodes inside lithium-ion battery cells become sluggish, storing less charge and discharging energy more quickly.
Scientists have replaced the standard graphite anode in a lithium-ion battery with a lumpy carbon-based material that maintains its rechargeable storage capacity down to -31°F/-35°C, according to a study published in ACS Central Science. When temperatures drop below freezing, however, these energy sources&#8217; electrical effectiveness suffers. In extreme cases, they may unable to transfer any charge. It&#8217;s why some people in cold climates have problems driving their electric cars in the dead of winter.

<h2>Lithium-ion Batteries&#8217;s Cold Weather Performance Will Improve</h2>
Scientists have discovered the flat orientation of graphite in the anode. It causes lithium-ion batteries&#8217; energy storage capacity to diminish in the cold. Xi Wang, Jiannian Yao, and colleagues modified the surface structure of a carbon-based material. It enhances the anode&#8217;s charge transfer process.
The researchers heated a cobalt-containing zeolite imidazolate framework (known as ZIF-67) to high temperatures to develop the novel material. The rough surfaces of the resulting 12-sided carbon nanospheres displayed good electrical charge transport capabilities.
The scientists then put the material through its paces as an anode in a coin-shaped battery with lithium metal as the cathode. At temperatures ranging from 77°F to -4°F/25°C -20°C, the anode showed steady charging and discharging and maintained 85.9% of its room temperature energy storage capacity slightly below freezing.
<h3>Graphite And Carbon Nanotubes</h3>
At freezing temperatures, lithium-ion batteries constructed using different carbon-based anodes, such as graphite and carbon nanotubes, held essentially no charge.
The anode built with rough nanospheres was still rechargeable after the researchers decreased the air temperature to -31°F/-35°C, and upon discharge, it released approximately 100 percent of the charge put into the battery.  Incorporating the rough nanosphere material into lithium-ion batteries could allow these energy sources to be used at extremely low temperatures.

All electric cars lose some range in winter conditions. In colder winter regions, such as Norway, Sweden, Finland, and northern United States, EV users must adapt their daily driving and charging habits. The bad news is that&#8217;s all there is to it. The good news is that this loss of range is only temporary, and EV battery will not be harmed in the long run. The projected range of EV at full charge should revert to normal when the glaciers melt and the temperatures rise.

UK&#8217;s well known vehicle news website Autocar.com range-tested a number of electric vehicles in both summer and winter settings to see what range they lose in real life scenarios. Unfortunately, while the journal was able to test four similar cars in both hot and cold temperatures, the other vehicles were only tested in the winter, with the proper winter range being especially in comparison to the official WLTP-rated range where feasible.
Despite the fact that the study isn&#8217;t uniform across all models tested, it does provide some evidence of range decline. The four identical vehicles evaluated through both seasons revealed a range loss of up to 20%, with the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/porsche-taycan-turbo-s/">Porsche Taycan</a> suffering the most, and the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/fiat-500e-42-kwh/">Fiat 500e</a> suffering the least. The experiments were carried out in a closed loop, according to the journal. They used a 24.14 km route that had 4.18 km of stop-and-go traffic. The driving then continued for four miles at 50 mph and almost thirteen at 70 mph. Again, this isn&#8217;t a genuine range test from full to empty in the real world, but it does give folks a sense of the evident loss in frigid conditions.
The range testing also highlighted the significance of a heat pump for dealing with cold-weather range reduction, according to the report. When compared to their WLTP-estimated range, models with a heating system experienced an average seasonal range loss of roughly 25%. Those without a heat pump, on the other hand, lost roughly 34% of their estimated range.
