Kia EV6 is an electric crossover SUV unveiled in 2021. It is the second EV after Hyundai Ioniq 5 that uses the next generation e-GMP platform. Thanks to being a purely electric car, EV6 has up to 52 liters of luggage capacity in the front.
Electric SUV is being offered with five different options: Standard Range 2WD, Standard Range 4WD, Long Range 2WD, Long Range 4WD, and EV6 GT. At the top of the line-up, EV6 can produce 585 HP and 740 Nm torque. It also has two battery options: 58-kWh and 77.4-kWh. EV6’s range can go as far as 510 kilometers on a single charge.
Long Range version of the EV6 will be delivered to customers in US, Europe, and South Korea in October 2021. More powerful version Kia EV6 GT will be available sometime in the 2022. EV6 Long Range models start at around £40,000 in the UK. EV6’s US pricing estimated to be around $45,000.
<h2>Performance</h2>
Kia EV6 Long Range 2WD option has 228 HP and 350 Nm torque, whereas Long Range 4WD model can produce 325 horsepower, 605 Nm torque and 0-100 km/h performance at 5.2 seconds.
Standard Range 2WD EV6 offers 170 HP, dual motor version however offers up to 235 HP and an impressive 605 Nm torque.
EV6 GT offers 585 horsepower and 740 Nm torque. 0-100 km/h only takes 3.5 seconds. Top speed is 260 km/h. It is faster than both Tesla Model Y Performance and Porsche Taycan 4S.
Kia EV6 has a towing capacity of up to 1,600 kilograms. 58 kWh Standard Range option can only tow up to 750 kg though. These figures are true when the car has more than 35% battery charge.
<h2>Design and Features</h2>
Kia uses the new ‘digital tiger face’ which is basically shut down partially to improve aerodynamical efficiency. Lower part of the front bumper still allows air flow to pass through in order to provide cooling for the battery system. EV6 has a lightbar at the back, giving the vehicle a very sleek look. Electric crossover can be one of the best looking EVs on the market right now.
There are some similarities between the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 interior-wise. But Kia designed its EV with more vivid colors and patterns, black dashboard design also looks impressive.
Kia EV6 has two 12” curved touch displays located in the center of the dashboard and wrapped around as one body. One screen is for the infotainment system and the other functions as the digital gauge cluster. Android Auto and Apple CarPlay with wireless connection is standard. There is also a Meridian sound system option with 14 speakers available for the EV6.
Kia puts a dedicated button for reclining the front seats all the way back. While your car charging you can recline your seat with a simple push of a button. Both front and back seats have USB-C charging ports, back seat ports located very cleverly at the side of the front seats.
<h2>Range and Charging</h2>
Kia EV6 comes with both 58-kWh and 77.4-kWh battery packs. It does offer more range than its sibling Ioniq 5 which is 510 kilometers with the larger battery. High performance EV6 GT’s range will be around 400 kilometers when fully charged according to the WLTP estimates.
EV6 GT and EV6 Long Range models all support 220 kW 800V DC ultra-fast charging. It takes 18 minutes to charge EV6 from 10% to 80%. AC charging time is 7 hours and 20 minutes according to the official data.
Korean electric SUV can also share its electricity via V2L feature. Charging port can supply up to 3.6 kW of power, powering up your appliances in your caravan will not be an issue. You can even charge another electric vehicle with the Kia EV6.

Audi RS e-tron GT is a high-performance electric sports car, launched in 2021 with a price tag of more than $140,000. It uses the same platform with the Porsche Taycan, but RS e-tron GT is cheaper than its sibling.
It has 646 HP and 830 Nm torque produced by its dual electric motors. Acceleration is almost supercar-like, 0-100 km/h in 3.3 seconds. Top speed of the vehicle is 250 km per hour. RS e-tron GT uses a 93-kWh battery pack offering 472 kilometers of range in the WLTP cycle.
The four-door coupe can be quickly charged thanks to its 800V electrical architecture. %5 to %80 of charge in 22.5 minutes. It supports DC charging speeds up to 270 kW.
Audi RS e-tron GT is the first electric car that being manufactured in Audi’s home country Germany. Unlike e-tron GT, other EVs like e-tron and e-tron S are made in Belgium.
<h2>Performance</h2>
With the Audi RS e-tron GT, the performance is easy to access because it comes in an instant. Alcantara wrapped steering wheel is nicely weighted and driving position is very good.
Dual motor all-wheel drive sports car can produce 646 horsepower and 830 Nm of torque. It has a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, suitable for the instant power delivery as well as the highway driving sessions. It can complete 0-100 km/h run in 3.3 seconds, but real world tests show that it can reach to that speed much faster. Top speed is 250 km/h.
<h2>Design and Features</h2>
Muscular lines make e-tron GT look very sporty and very good-looking. There are lots of carbon fiber details around the exterior and interior of the RS e-tron GT. Side mirrors, bumper parts and the entire roof of the vehicle are made of carbon fiber. Normal e-tron GTs have a glass panoramic sunroof, though.
It has a deployable spoiler on the back, it pops out when the car reaches a certain speed -or you can control it from the central display. It has carbon ceramic brakes, as well. As you can understand, Audi unloads its whole sport package into this electric sports car.
Audi has one of the best digital gauge clusters on the market right now. German car brand calls it “virtual cockpit” and RS e-tron GT made use of it very well. You can handle most of the stuff from that screen and that’s what Audi also wants. Unlike other electric cars, RS e-tron GT does not have a big infotainment display or a secondary display, like all the other new Audis.
RS e-tron GT is a performance vehicle, and Audi doesn’t want to confuse drivers with lots of screens and stuff. Drivers should be focused on the road, and they only need the essential features of the vehicle. Thus, Audi created a simple, and yet elegant interior design. It has Alcantara and carbon fiber details that raise the level of luxury and sportiness in the cabin.
RS e-tron GT has very large sport seats in the front. Back row also has similarly designed seats, but leg room is not very good because of the thick front seats. Back seat passengers have two USB-C ports hidden under the middle seating area, two air vents and climate control buttons. So, we can say that Audi doesn’t totally ignore back row in this sports car.
<h2>Range and Charging</h2>
Useable net capacity of the RS e-tron GT’s battery is 84-kWh. It can travel up to 472 kilometers on a single charge. Real world range tests indicated that RS e-tron GT can go even further when cautiously driven.
RS version of the e-tron GT can be charged with 270 kW DC plugs and 11-kW AC wall-type chargers. Maximum DC charging rates allow it to be charged from 5 percent to 80 percent in 22.5 minutes. With AC charging, it takes more than 9 hours for a fully charged battery.

During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Lotus will start producing very soon its first four-door car, Emeya. The vehicle has completed its winter tests at -40 degrees.
The #Porsche Taycan rival has high efficiency thanks to the 800V architecture. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds and can reach 919 horsepower with a dual engine. It is stated that the vehicle can reach 489 kilometers with a full charge while using a CATL-produced battery with a capacity of 102 kWh.
The starting price of Lotus Emeya, which went on sale in China last month, is $92,000. For the 919 HP Emeya R+ model, the price goes up to $164,000.

Porsche officially renewed its first electric car today, which has been on sale for more than four years.
Taycan, whose three body types (Sedan, Cross Turismo, Sport Turismo) were updated at the same time, surprisingly continues to use the old architecture instead of the company&#8217;s new platform PPE.

Even though its platform has not changed, it is certain that the new Taycan is much better than the old one in almost every aspect. While the Turbo S version previously completed the 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.8 seconds, this time decreases to 2.4 seconds in the renewed Taycan.
The 2024 Porsche Taycan can reach 952 horsepower thanks to the new rear engine. It can reflect this performance on the road for a much longer time with its new generation heat pump thermal management system and inverter. The sports vehicle with 800-volt electric architecture can also charge for five minutes at speeds above 320 kW.
The German manufacturer states that the old generation Taycan was charged from 10% to 80% in approximately 37 minutes at 15 degrees, and that this decreased to 18 minutes with the new Taycan.
The new Taycan, whose small battery option increases from 79 kWh to 89 kWh, and whose Peformance Battery Plus option increases its capacity from 93 to 105 kWh, will hit the roads in Turkey in the spring, simultaneously Europe and the world.
With all these innovations, the starting price increases from 93,000 euros to 105,530 euros. Customers who want to buy the Taycan with 952 HP and a large battery have to pay 217,000 euros.

#Porsche officially unveiled the electric Macan at the event held in Singapore today. Using the PPE (Premium Platform Electric) platform, the compact SUV will be on the roads in Q2 of 2024 with a starting price of €84,000.
The rear-wheel drive 408 HP version of the electric Macan can reach 270 kW DC charging speed thanks to its 800-volt electrical architecture. The vehicle will be sold as the Macan 4, and the dual-engine 639 HP performance version will be sold as the Macan Turbo.

Volkswagen has announced that it has developed high-speed wireless charging technology for electric vehicles as a result of its work at its R&amp;D center in the USA.
The German automotive giant has achieved 120 kW charging speed by combining the patented original wireless charging coil and charging pad design with a silicon carbide inverter. The new target is to reach speeds at the same level as the existing DC charging service, such as 300 kW.

That is where higher-voltage electric vehicles are coming into play. Tesla recently announced its 1000-volt system and hinted more Tesla vehicles will benefit from the new tech. Future EVs will eventually make the switch from 400V to higher voltage systems.
800V or higher voltage electric vehicles are capable of delivering <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/top-15-ev-charging-networks-in-the-us">ultra-fast charging</a> rates and offer higher performance while improving the efficiency of the all systems. 800V electric vehicles can only be possible by employing an 800V battery and using SiC (Silicone Carbide) inverter, proper cabling, OBC (On-board Charger), DCDC converter and other electrical equipments that support higher voltage levels. Conventional electric vehicles come with 400V electrical architecture as standard. Because of the voltage limit, today&#8217;s electric vehicles are limited to a maximum of 400-volt when they are connected to a DC charging station. In order to reach higher charge rates, current levels should go up to 600A or even more, which is not ideal for the infrastructure that charging stations heavily rely on.
The first higher-voltage EV is the Porsche Taycan, which has a cutting-edge 800V inverter built-in. Its DC charging rate can go as high as 270 kW with the proper charging setup. After that Hyundai and Kia developed an alternative 800V charging tech to avoid using an expensive 800V SiC inverter. In late 2021, Lucid Motors launched its first vehicle Lucid Air with an industry-leading 924V system developed by <a href="https://eepower.com/news/wolfspeed-announces-the-lucid-air-is-using-its-sic-power-modules/#">Wolfspeed</a>. And one year later, Tesla unveiled its first 1000V vehicle architecture with the launch of the tri-motor electric truck Tesla Semi. <a href="https://spectrum.ieee.org/ev-charging-800-volt">General Motors</a>, Volkswagen, and, of course, Chinese brands such as Aion, Avatr, Xpeng, Zeekr, BYD, Voyah and Li Auto have also been developing 800V high-voltage electrical systems for their EVs.

<h2>Faster Charging Compared to 400V Electric Vehicles</h2>

800V or higher voltage systems allow electric vehicles to be charged at as high as 480 kW, <a href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-g9-awd">Xpeng G9</a> proved. Regular 400V electric vehicles aren&#8217;t capable of doing that, because of the charging infrastructure&#8217;s current limit. When you plug your 400V vehicle into a DC charger, you limit your session to 400-volt. To provide faster charging speeds, EV charger should deliver more current, sometimes as high as 600A or even more (The third-gen Tesla Superchargers can deliver up to 660-amper). In order to increase the current, thicker and water-cooled cables are needed. Even using these expensive cables are not enough to lower down the charge efficiency, as conduction losses will increase up to nine times.
EV manufacturers have been developing 800V charging technologies to overcome this fast-charging problem. Some companies such as Porsche/Audi, Lucid Motors, and Xpeng use SiC inverters inside their EVs. These next-gen SiC inverters can handle higher voltages and also improve efficiency. Hyundai and Kia took a different approach to this matter. Korean automakers developed a technology that manages to provide 800-volt charging by using electric motors as generator and a regular IGBT inverter.
Thanks to more advanced electronics, 800-volt charging enables vehicle owners to reach up to 480 kW DC charging rates. For instance, Xpeng G9 and Aion LX Plus are already on sale that support ultra-fast 480+ kW charging. Lucid Air can go as high as 300 kW. Porsche Taycan did perform similiarly. Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 is also capable of delivering up to 240 kW DC charging speeds. 800V charging is definitely the future of EVs!
<h3>More Efficient &amp; More Powerful Electric Drivetrains</h3>

By switching to a 800V architecture, EV manufacturers can make use of higher voltage motors as well. Porsche is the first company to implement an 800V electric motor into its vehicles. Higher voltage improves overall power density of the motor unit and it reduces the maximum torque required to achieve the same output power due to extended RPM range.
As the DC link voltage of the EV motor units increase, the current levels decrease. This leads to lower copper loss and improves efficiency of the electrical traction systems. Higher voltage motors are also tend to produce more power than lower voltage solutions.
From the efficiency perspective, the next-gen SiC inverters used inside 800V electric vehicles are also much more efficient. <a href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-yangwang-u8">BYD recently unveiled</a> its first SiC inverter developed in-house, which scores an efficiency level of 99.5 percent.
<h3>800V Architectures Mean Lighter Electric Cars</h3>

800-volt electrical architectures can be created by using thinner cables between the battery pack and the inverter, DC charging port, OBC, and other equipments. As a result, 800V electric vehicles will use less copper and that would reduce the overall weight of the car.
Higher voltage electric motors are also significantly lighter and more power-dense than regular lower voltage units. That means 800V electric vehicles can be equipped with smaller, lighter motors. That creates more room for batteries as well.
<h3>Reduced Cost of Cabling, Less Copper Used Inside the Vehicle</h3>
Electric vehicles use more copper than any other vehicles. It takes 2 to 4 times more copper to build an EV than an ICE vehicle. But unlike 400V EVs, higher voltage systems don&#8217;t require thick copper cables. That will not only help manufacturers reduce the cost of cabling but also ease up the global copper supply chain. Because EV batteries and heavy investments in EV charging infrastructure have already been causing problems for the copper industry, thinner cables will help in the near future.
Here are some disadvantages of choosing 800V electrical system over a regular 400V architecture:
&#8211; Higher cost of electrical insulation and clearance
&#8211; Higher voltage battery packs tend to perform less reliable than 400V systems, because they contain larger number of series connections. The impact of single cell failure in a pack like this would be much higher than the 400V batteries with more parallel cells.
&#8211; Lower voltage battery packs are more energy-dense than the similiarly designed 800V batteries, which is the result of all the additional electrical clearance requirements around high voltage systems and the much larger BMS.

European countries encourage pure electric vehicle sales by offering generous subsidies and implementing strict regulations that force automakers to sell more low-emission/or zero-emission vehicles.
Analysts estimated that the global EV sales to exceed 4 million in 2021. Western Europe is the second-biggest EV market after China. And December 2021 is the month that EV sales officially overtook diesel cars, according to the data gathered from 18 European markets.
That is a historical milestone for the European automotive industry, as diesel cars were the most popular powertrain option a few years back. Electrification has been rising steadily, and automakers keep increasing their EV development budget every month! European companies will eventually stop their combustion-engine vehicle R&amp;D in the next few years.
