Chinese electric vehicle brands are a top priority at Licarco because the EV market has become increasingly dominated by pure electric Chinese cars. Last year, China sold more EVs than the rest of the world. BYD, NIO, ORA, and Geely are some of the biggest Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
Even though China has been producing millions of EVs for years, American drivers wouldn&#8217;t be able to buy one. It&#8217;s because vehicles made in China are subjected to a %27.5 import tariff in the US. Due to heavy taxation, Chinese brands had not prioritized the US auto market in their global plans. But that&#8217;s changing quickly, as more and more Chinese EV marques are expanding their reach towards western markets, including United States.
In this article, we gathered a list of Chinese EV brands and their expansion plans. We will update this post when an announcement is made regarding any Chinese EV maker&#8217;s global expansion.

Leapmotor, an emerging EV brand backed by Dahua Technology, has plans to enter the European market in 2023. The brand officials confirmed that Leapmotor would open showrooms in Europe. To finance its globalization plans, Hangzhou-based carmaker filed its first IPO that worths around $1.5bn at Hong Kong Exchange.
The brand has already started to sell electric vehicles in Turkey and Israel, starting with the compact hatchback called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-t03" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor T03</a>. The first EV to be showcased in Europe will probably be the electric sedan C01. With its sleek design, cell-to-chassis technology, and impressive performance figures, <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-c01" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor C01</a> will attract a lot of customers.

BYD first entered Norway with the full-size electric SUV called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-tang-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tang EV</a>. Over the next months, China&#8217;s biggest EV manufacturer will start selling vehicles all over the world. BYD EVs are already available in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. European countries where BYD will start operations before the end of 2022 are the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden.
BYD will export these three electric vehicle models to Old Continent; compact electric SUV <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-atto-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Atto 3</a>, electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-han-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Han EV</a>, and BYD Tang EV. India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will also be subject to BYD&#8217;s global expansion, as official statements confirmed.
Unfortunately, BYD has no plans to enter the American market yet. But there is a possibility of Chinese EV maker using its new premium brand, which reportedly will deliver a $145K+ luxury EV to the market, to attract customers from United States.

NIO is one of the first Chinese automakers, which officially confirms its entry into the US market. NIO-branded EVs will be on sale in the US starting in 2025. Large-size SUV ES8 is currently being tested on US roads. There is no official timeline for the US launch, though.
Chinese EV marque will also start selling EVs in Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The next move on the global plans is to enter more European markets such as Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. NIO is hoping to sell electric vehicles in 25 countries by 2025.

In February 2022, Xpeng opened its first showroom in Stockholm, Sweden. Guangzhou-based company will start selling EVs in Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden before the year ends. The company&#8217;s first offering will be the mid-range electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p5-600p" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P5</a>.
Xpeng expects half of its electric vehicle sales in 2025 to come from outside of China. Europe is its first choice but customers from the US will eventually get a taste of Xpeng&#8217;s popular cars in the near future. Chinese brand signed a dealership agreement with a Turkish company to sell EVs in Turkey as well. The first vehicle to be put on sale in Turkey will be <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p7-4wd-high-performance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P7</a>.

Geely is a global automotive group. There are brands under the Geely Group that sell vehicles all over the world. Zeekr will be joining those brands next year by entering the European market. EV-only brand will make it official in early 2023, as Zeekr announced.
Zeekr has only one model on sale called Zeekr 001, but it has plans to launch a total of seven EVs by 2025. Its 2025 sales goal in Europe is 100,000 vehicles. There is no word whether Zeekr will sell EVs in Scandinavia, western/or eastern Europe. Follow us for more details.

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially entered the United Kingdom and Germany with its EV-only brand ORA. GWM introduced the first vehicles to be put on sale in Europe earlier this year. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/ora-cat-64-kwh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ORA Cat/Funky Cat</a> is the first one for the western market.
The company appoints Emil Frey to distribute vehicles starting in Germany. That is not the first time GWM to choose Germany for its global expansion. Chinese automaker&#8217;s battery division SVOLT opened a battery plant in Germany as well. Recently SVOLT announced its second investment worth €2.0bn, which would enable them to produce lithium-ion battery cells directly in the country.

If you want to play games with an Xbox controller on your Tesla, use a data cable (not a charge-only USB cable that lacks the data transfer function) to plug your controller into your Tesla Model 3/Y&#8217;s main screen via the USB-C ports in the center console or the USB-A port in the glove box. Step 1. Buy a wireless adapter/dongle for pairing your Xbox controller. <a href="https://amzn.to/3HCaTTv">8Bitdo Wireless USB Adapter 2</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/3jyyigK">MAYFLASH Magic NS 2</a> are two of the most popular choices.
Step 2. Plug the wireless adapter into your Tesla via USB data ports. Use a USB-A to USB-C adapter if necessary. Please be aware that newer Model 3/Y vehicles don&#8217;t have USB data ports in the center console. You will need to use the USB-A port inside the glove compartment.
Step 3. Put your wireless adapter into pairing mode. 8Bitdo&#8217;s pairing button is on the bottom, whereas the Magic NS&#8217;s pairing mode can be activated by pressing the black button on the side until the light goes green and blinks fast.

Step 4. In order to put your controller into pairing mode, first press the Xbox button for one second until it lights up. Then, press and hold the circular pair button located on the back of the controller for three seconds.
Step 5. Once the wireless adapter and Xbox controller ared paired up, the lights on both of these devices will stop blinking. You will see a notification message on your Tesla&#8217;s screen that confirms the pairing.

Regenerative braking technology is a bliss for the efficiency of <a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars">all-electric vehicles</a>. But it takes time to get used to this helpful feature. Sometimes it gets annoying or makes no sense on some occasions. There is an option to turn it off, but things get complicated with <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-cars-have-been-sold">Tesla vehicles</a>. Let us explain.
If you want to turn off regenerative braking on your Tesla, you probably won&#8217;t find any disabling option in the menu. Because turning off regenerative braking is not possible on a Tesla. It is also impossible to adjust the regen on Tesla vehicles built since Q2 2020. Tesla Model S/3/X/Y vehicles built before that date can still be able to offer adjustments. You just need to navigate through the main screen and go to Driving, then change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; to &#8216;Low&#8217; for reducing the level of regenerative braking.
Newer Tesla vehicles come with standard level regen as default. There is no &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; adjustment option anymore. So, why wouldn&#8217;t Tesla allow its drivers to adjust regenerative braking? The main reason is that the vehicle range is heavily affected by not being able to recuperate the energy you otherwise lost to heat, etc by pressing the brake pedal. Other automakers agree with Tesla as well. According to <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://electrek.co/2018/08/08/audi-e-tron-quattro-electric-suv-range-regen-braking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Audi</a>, regenerative braking can extend the range by up to 30% on average. Leapmotor T03 is a small-size electric hatchback first hit the market in May 2020. It is the second EV that Dahua-backed EV start-up built and launched. Chinese company recently announced that Leapmotor T03 has passed the European Union&#8217;s Whole Vehicle Type Approval and it is ready to be sold in EU. Leapmotor also officially confirmed its entry into the Israeli market with the very same model. First batch of T03 are on their way to Israel. The official pricing of the electric hatchback will be announced by Leapmotor&#8217;s partner in Israel called Metro Motor.

Dongfeng Motor has partnered up with Huawei to globalize its SERES-branded electric vehicles. Israel is one of the first places they went to sell EVs. The first vehicle made into the country is an electric crossover called SERES 3. It offers up to 405 kilometers of range when fully charged. It&#8217;s not particularly powerful as the new MG ZS EV with a 119 kW front motor, but it has a large boot compared to other options.

JAC e-JS4 is being produced by China&#8217;s one of the largest automotive groups called JAC Motors. It is a fully electric compact SUV. Sehol E40X is the name of this vehicle&#8217;s Chinese version. It is also a single motor EV, which uses a 150 HP front unit. 9 Affordable Chinese EVs Available in Israel

ProLogium, the world-famous solid-state <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/lithium-ion-battery-cell-types-lfp-nmc-cells-explained">battery</a> company, reveals its plan for an $8 billion European battery plant. According to Reuters, Asian firm made a short list of countries for this huge investment. These countries are Germany, United Kingdom, France, and Poland.

Established in 2006, Taiwanese battery company first commercialized its lithium-ceramic battery with a phone case designed for HTC One Max in 2013. After proving its worth and a couple of successful funding rounds, ProLogium signed contracts with some promising Chinese EV manufacturers, namely NIO, Aiways, and Enovate. Rumors suggest that NIO will produce its 150-kWh battery pack option in collaboration with ProLogium.
LCB (Lithium-Ceramic Battery) manufacturer closed its latest investment round with $326 million funding in October 2021. It was in early 2022 that finally a Tier-1 automaker recognized ProLogium&#8217;s success and made an investment. Mercedes-Benz signed a partnership agreement with the company and invested almost €100 million into its technology. Two companies will co-develop and produce solid-state battery cells in the near future.
German carmaker is not the only one that is fond of ProLogium&#8217;s SSB (Solid-State Battery) technologies. In March 2022, Taiwanese e-scooter firm Gogoro announced the world&#8217;s first <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/kymco-prepares-to-launch-its-battery-swapping-electric-scooters-in-europe">swappable scooter battery pack</a> developed by ProLogium. In May, global steel giant POSCO confirmed that it will develop and produce battery materials with the help of a partnership with ProLogium. Vinfast also revealed its plan to buy solid-state batteries from the company starting in 2024.
Aside from these very promising partnership agreements, ProLogium also received a strategic investment from China&#8217;s Reform Fund in June 2022. It will improve ProLogium&#8217;s relations with mainland China and give them a chance to establish their first solid-state battery plant there.
<h2>Solid-State EV Batteries is Coming Sooner Than You Think</h2>

Taiwanese battery maker will spend $8 billion over the next decade and construct a solid-state battery plant with an annual capacity of 120 GWh in Europe. The batteries soon to be manufactured in Europe will be used inside electric vehicles. Today&#8217;s news clearly shows that solid-state EV batteries are not as far as we think they are.
ProLogium&#8217;s first solid-state battery plant will start mass production early next year with a 3 GWh annual capacity. The first batch of lithium-ceramic cells will probably ship to Chinese EV maker NIO and e-scooter giant Gogoro. These two company has been teasing solid-state batteries for a while.
Solid-state EV batteries will dramatically improve range, thanks to higher energy density. They will also speed up charging sessions, EVs with solid-state batteries could be fully charged in a matter of minutes. The only problem is that these batteries tend to degrade quicker than ordinary lithium-ion batteries with liquid electrolytes. ProLogium has been trying to extend lithium-ceramic cells&#8217; lifetime for over a decade. It probably solved this critical problem, as hefty investment news highly suggests.

Solid-State Battery Maker ProLogium Invests $8 Billion on European Battery Plant

KYMCO&#8216;s Ionex battery swap system competes directly with Gogoro&#8216;s own battery swap system, despite the fact that Gogoro surpasses KYMCO in its home market by a factor of ten. Japanese motorcycle manufacturers, along with Honda, also have entered the battery swapping game, each hoping that their own system will become the standard.
As of now, Gogoro has easily won that war, but it has primarily committed to increasing its infrastructure network across the largest Asian markets, including China, India, and Indonesia. It was previously heard scattered rumors of Gogoro&#8217;s plans for further Westward expansion.
KYMCO&#8217;s recent move into Italy might well introduce battery-swapping electric scooters to the mainland on a wider level, defeating competitors such as Gogoro and Honda. Gogoro essentially has electric scooters in Europe as part of the Tier shared e-scooter network and previously as part of Coup, but those scooters are now only best for short rentals.

Privately owned electric scooters, which allow riders to buy the scooter without battery systems and then charge a low subscription service fee for availability to battery swapping stations, have yet to gain traction in Europe to the extent that they have in Asia.

<h2>Multiple Lonex&#8217;s Replaceable Battery Packs</h2>
Models such as the KYMCO Ionex Many 110 EV could be effective urban cars in the country. While the scooter only has a top maximum speed of km/h (31 mph), it can hold up to 5 Ionex replaceable battery packs for a range of up to 124 miles/200 km on a full charge.
Once diminished, the scooter&#8217;s batteries can be recharged using a standard wall outlet, if one is available, or manually swapped out at a battery swap station.

CATL&#8217;s connectivity of rapid battery swap stations on the island and in the surroundings is expected to expand to 30 by the end of this year when drivers in Xiamen will be able to easily find an EVOGO battery swap station within just a 1.8 miles/3 km radius
The battery manufacturer will put in place swap stations in ten cities across China, and customers will be able to access the system service through an app, according to Chen Weifeng, general manager of CATL&#8217;s subsidiary CAES, during a live online event.
According to Chen, the platform allows car owners to swap out diminished battery blocks for newly charged ones at its exchange stations. The provider will be compliant with the Chinese automaker FAW Group&#8217;s Bestune NAT multi-purpose vehicle, he said, contributing that more features would be added in the future.
He said EVOGO aimed to address &#8220;the challenge of range anxiety, inconvenience of recharging and high purchasing and driving costs&#8221; for owners.
The launch of EVOGO comes at a time when businesses in the electric-vehicle market are having to compete to cut costs and &#8220;range apprehension&#8221; in order to boost product appeal, particularly in China, where EV sales have taken off.

Since 2000, Chinese EV manufacturer NIO has established a network of 700 battery swapping stations all over China, allowing NIO car owners to exchange a rechargeable battery in three minutes. Geely also stated in September that it intends to establish 5,000 battery swapping stations for electric vehicles worldwide by 2025.

Seoul is no exception. The Metropolitan Government of the capital city has recently increased its attempts to transform the city&#8217;s delivery fleet to electric. The administration intends to distribute 7,000 electric scooters in 2022, the greatest number of electric scooters ever supplied in the city. Seoul has already been striving more towards a green transition for more than a decade, with the Metropolitan Government quietly providing electric scooters for delivery since 2010, with a number of 11,798 units sold in that time. This year&#8217;s ambitious target of 7,000 scooters represents 60% of all scooters ever supplied.
Yet, the sources of energy of scooters have been identified as one of the primary sources of excessive noise, notably in residential neighborhoods. Furthermore, considering the vast distances, these scooters reach in a single day, they create far more greenhouse gases than conventional private motorcycles. By 2025, Seoul&#8217;s Metropolitan Government hopes to have transformed all of the city&#8217;s full-time delivery motorcycles into electric. Obviously, this is a great aim, but initiatives are being taken to accelerate it. In particular, the state plans to turn over 4,000 electric two-wheelers in the first half of 2022. Following that, 800 scooters will be available for personal use, 500 for enterprises, and 300 for people on the city&#8217;s list of priorities.
