<p>Hyundai Ioniq 5 is the Korean carmaker’s first ever fully dedicated battery electric car. It is built on a unique platform, e-GMP (Electric Global Modular Platform) developed by Hyundai and Kia together.</p>
<p>Compared to <strong><a href="https://www.licarco.com/2021-tesla-model-3-performance/">Tesla Model 3</a></strong> and <strong><a href="https://www.licarco.com/polestar-2-long-range-dual-motor/">Polestar 2</a></strong>, Ioniq 5 looks like a boxy hatchback, Hyundai calls it a crossover. Fastest Ioniq 5 can go from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. It has a moveable center console on the inside, safety features like blindspot indicator, lane keeping, and remote parking capabilities.</p>
<h2><strong>Ioniq 5 Performance</strong></h2>
<p>Ioniq 5 has two battery pack options, Standard Range version offers 58 kWh capacity, whereas Long Range models will be equipped with a 77.4 kWh battery. Hyundai also offers two drivetrains for both of these battery options. RWD has a single electric motor and up to 217 horsepower. Those who wants to get more power will choose the AWD option for dual motors and up to 306 HP. It can tow a caravan up to 1,600 kilos of weight.</p>
<p>The stalk behind the steering wheel allows driver to easily change gear, put the vehicle on parking mode etc. Ioniq 5’s smooth driving experience will improve with very clever blindspot indicator feature. Whenever you put an indicator on, cameras from the each side of the vehicle will show you the blindspots, making Ioniq 5 much more safer to drive. There’s also a head-up display (HUD) that includes the vehicle’s speed, navigation etc.</p>
<h2><strong>Ioniq 5 Design and Features</strong></h2>
<p>In terms of appearance, Hyundai Ioniq 5 looks like a hatchback, but it’s actually a crossover, or an all-electric CUV. When Hyundai designed the new Ioniq 5, they took a lot of inspiration from the first vehicle they actually manufactured. It is the Hyundai Pony from the 1980s. It has got a very interest retro design, standing out from the crowd with its boxy shape. The headlights and taillights which use square shaped LEDs are also retro styled.</p>
<p>In profile, Ioniq 5 has an enormous wheelbase of over three meters, longer than a Range Rover Sport, which give this electric Hyundai plenty of space inside.</p>
<p>On the front of the vehicle, there is a little frunk, enough for a few grocery bags or a backpack, not even close to the capacity Teslas and <strong><a href="https://www.licarco.com/ford-mustang-mach-e-gt/">Ford Mustang Mach-E</a></strong> offer.</p>
<p>The interior of the new Hyundai Ioniq 5 is as unique as its exterior design. Modular design allows Hyundai to equip its new vehicle with two 12 inch displays, one for the full-touch infotainment system, and the other acting as a digital gauge cluster. Thanks to its long wheelbase and flat floor, Ioniq 5’s center console can slide back almost 15 centimeters, creating a spacious car experience for the driver and passengers.</p>
<p>The Ioniq 5 got five USB ports, a 220V outlet for any tools and gadgets you want to power, a glove draw instead of a traditional glovebox, seats that can be almost fully recline, Bose sound system etc.</p>
<h2><strong>Ioniq 5 Range and Charging</strong></h2>
<p>Ioniq 5 has the fastest charging technology in its segment. There are two charging systems, 400 volt and 800 volt electrical arcitectures available for the Ioniq 5. With the highest setup, all-electric CUV can be charged with 350 kW DC plugs, from 10 to 80 percent in roughly 18 minutes.</p>
<p>There is also the V2L (Vehicle to Load) feature that turn Ioniq 5 into a power source for your electronic devices, and simple tools that can be powered via a simple outlet. It allows a charging speed up to 3.6 kW. It is even possible to charge another electric vehicle with Hyundai Ioniq 5.</p>

<p>Ford Mustang Mach-E is a performance-oriented electric SUV that comes with both RWD and AWD drivetrain options. It is the first “Mustang” branded electric vehicle Ford manufactured and launched to the market. It offers up to 294 HP with the single motor, and 351 HP with the dual motor options. It’s not more powerful than Tesla Model Y or Jaguar I-Pace, but Ford made a faster version of the electric Mustang called Mach-E GT. With the GT version, highest power figures went up to 487 HP and 860 Nm of torque. It can reach 0 to 100 km/h of speed in 3.7 seconds.</p>
<p>Ford offers the Mach-E with both 75.7 kWh and 98.8 kWh battery packs. According to WLTP test cycle, single motor big battery variant of the Mach-E can travel 610 kilometers when fully charged. Shortest range belongs to the Mach-E AWD Standard Range version, which is 400 km. 150 kW DC, charging only supported by the Extended Range and GT options. Mach-E models with the small battery can reach 115 kW charging rates when plugged into a DC rapid charger. Standard Range versions should get 80 percent charge in 38 minutes, whereas Extended Range and GT models can be charged from %0-%80 in 43 minutes.</p>
<p>Mustang Mach-E is available in the US, starting price is around $43,000 without any incentives. Most expensive and also the sportiest Mach-E GT carries a $60,500 price tag.</p>
<h2><strong><u>Performance</u></strong></h2>
<p>Firm suspension and quite raised driving position aside, Mustang Mach-E is a tremendous electric car to drive. It has five different performance options. Mach-E RWD Standard Range and AWD Standard Range versions have 269 HP, torque figures are 430 Nm and 580 Nm respectively.</p>
<p>Dual motor AWD drivetrain with Extended Range battery offers 351 horsepower, 580 Nm torque and 0-100 km/h acceleration in 4.8 seconds. Fastest electric Mustang version, the so-called Mach-E GT is also an AWD vehicle. Its two electric motors can produce 487 HP and 860 Nm torque. Grand Tour special can reach 0 to 100 km/h in only 3.7 seconds. Its top speed electronically limited to 200 km per hour. Mach-E GT aside, top speed of the other Mach-E variants is 180 km/h.</p>
<h2><strong><u>Design and Features</u></strong></h2>
<p>Ford Mustang Mach-E has a sort of coupe-like roof line, giving it a sporty profile. Headlights and taillights are very similar to the ones on the newest Mustangs. But front side of the Mach-E does give away its electric secret because Ford designed a nose that almost completely closed for efficiency reasons. It looks smooth and gives the car a unique look. The vents low down can also be opened and closed automatically depending on whether the battery system needs cooling or not.</p>
<p>Interestingly, no sign of any Ford logo on the exterior side, as Ford consistently points out that even though it has an electric drivetrain and battery power, Mach-E is a Mustang. They wanted to emphasize the true identity of the car by not including any blue oval emblem.</p>
<p>Ford uses very sophisticated door handles in the Mach-E. Driver’s side includes a numpad for keyless entry and a small handle that helps pulling the door open. When the door first opened, a kickstand prevents the door from closing, in order to avoid injuring your fingers. Because there aren’t any normal looking door handles on the rest of the vehicle, there are only buttons and people tend to hold the edge of the door to pull it open. The reason of the door handle-less design is simply aerodynamics. Ford wanted to create one of the most aerodynamical vehicle on the market, achieving that will give the American car maker a chance against the highly popular electric SUV Tesla Model Y.</p>
<p>Thanks to the long hood and the lack of big oily combustion engine, there is enough space for a 100 liters frunk on the front. Space in the back seats is also not bad either.</p>
<p>Mustang Mach-E has a 15.5-inch portrait-oriented infotainment display, on top of the lower third of the vehicle there is also physical know for controlling volume. Ford chose a Bang &amp; Olufsen sound system for the electric Mustang, sound experience is above average as some real-world tests claim.</p>
<h3><strong>Mach-E’s Interior Quality Better Than VW ID.4</strong></h3>
<p>Ford is beating the Volkswagen ID.4 with its interior quality. There is not much hard plastic, instead Blue Oval uses fabric texture on the dashboard and most of the areas around the driver and passengers are covered with soft materials that look cooler than hard plastic stuff.</p>
<p>There is a really large wireless charging pad below the big display, you can easily put your smartphone there and never bother finding your USB cable and plugging your phone.</p>
<h2><strong><u>Range and Charging</u></strong></h2>
<p>Ford has Standard Range and Extended Range battery options available with the electric SUV. Standard Range option offers 75.7 kWh energy capacity, it is enough for a 440 km range with RWD, and 400 km with the dual motor Mach-E. These models only support 115 kW DC charging speeds, from 10 percent to 80 percent will take 38 minutes.</p>
<p>With the 98.8 kWh bigger battery, RWD and AWD Extended Range models have 610 km and 540 km of range respectively. Mach-E GT, on the other hand, can travel 500 kilometers on a single charge with the same battery. Extended Range and GT versions of the Mach-E support 150 kW DC charging, 10 to 80 percent charge in 43 minutes.</p>

<p>The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.</p>
<p>Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.</p>

<p>#Audi has introduced its first car developed on the all-electric PPE platform, the Q6 e-tron.</p>
<p>The Q6 e-tron, which is priced 10% cheaper than its sibling model, the Porsche Macan EV, developed on the same platform, stands out with both more compact and lightweight electric motors and a large prismatic cell-based massive battery.</p>

<p>Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.</p>
<p>Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.</p>

<p>🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.</p>

<p>🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.</p>
<p>🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.</p>

The 2024 BYD Han Has Officially Been Released | Starting At $25,000

<p><span style="font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);">⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.</span></p>
<p>🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.</p>
<p>🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.</p>
<p>💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.</p>
<p>🚗 Equipped with LiDAR sensor-based autonomous driving mode, a new infotainment system powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and numerous interior design changes, the exact price of the 001 will be revealed upon its release on February 27th.</p>

<p><span style="font-family: var(--global--font-secondary); font-size: var(--global--font-size-base);">🟢Announcing that it will convert diesel mining trucks to electric in 2021 together with #ABB, #Hitachi shared that the first vehicle has been produced.</span></p>
<p>⛏️The giant truck started to be used in a copper-gold mine in Zambia. It climbs with an electrical connection that feeds the battery, similar to a trolleybus, while going to pick up load. When turning downhill while loaded, it recharges its battery thanks to regenerative braking.</p>
<p>🔋In this way, ABB and Hitachi completed the transformation with a smaller one instead of a megawatt-hour battery. They made this possible thanks to the regenerative braking ability of the huge electric motors seen in the prototype photo.</p>
<p>🔌Mining truck&#8217;s previously had a giant internal combustion engine with 16 cylinders and 2,534 horsepower. It will relatively reduce the impact of mining on the environment by ending diesel consumption and zeroing out emissions after the conversion to electric.</p>

<p>At a posh event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Stellantis welcomed several dealers and displayed its whole portfolio of contemporary ideas. They created a seven-year product strategy to prepare for a completely different future. The replacement of the Dodge Durango with a three-row Dodge Stealth SUV was one of the disclosures from the event that an attendee documented. This is a sneak peek at some significant new product photographs captured at the conference. The Dodge Charger Daytona SRT and Ram 1500 Revolution BEV ideas are among them, as expected. But two hot Jeep concepts from the previous year, the Recon and Wagoneer S, may be of greater interest given how little we have seen of them thus far.</p>

<p>Jeep already offers an electric car, at least in Europe, and it&#8217;s called the tiny <a href="https://www.licarco.com/jeep-avenger">Jeep Avenger</a>. Nevertheless, the front-wheel-drive Jeep Avenger, which isn&#8217;t sold in North America, isn&#8217;t the type of Jeep that could successfully traverse the Rubicon Trail. The new Recon checks all of those things while also having a boxy, rugged exterior.</p>
<p>The Wrangler is not planned to be replaced by the Recon. Nevertheless, it will be offered solely as an EV and positioned next to it in the lineup. It will be equipped with real off-road goods including e-locker axle technology, Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management, thick trail rubber, tow hooks, and underbody protection. It is based on the new Stellantis STLA Large EV platform.</p>
<p>In addition, the Uconnect media system will include navigation preloaded for some of the most well-traveled overland routes in the nation. The doors and roof may also be removed. Moreover, Jeep claims that the battery will have enough juice to get you across the Rubicon and back to a charging station, in case you&#8217;re wondering how you&#8217;d go about charging a Recon in the middle of nowhere. Recon EV reservations begin this year, and manufacturing begins the next year.</p>
<h2><strong>2024 Jeep Wagoneer S EV</strong></h2>

<p>The Wagoneer S, another all-electric Jeep with a different target market in mind, has cars like the BMW iX in its sights. It shares the STLA Large base with the Recon and is similarly constructed, but its driving characteristics and aesthetics are tailored for city driving.</p>
<p>Although Jeep hasn&#8217;t provided exact information regarding the battery or charging periods, it did mention a driving range of 644 km/400 miles when it initially introduced the idea last September. That platform can support batteries up to 100 kWh. The idea also stated that it could reach 97 kmh /60 mph in under 3.5 seconds thanks to two electric motors that combined to provide 600 horsepower (608 PS) for its four wheels.</p>
<h2><strong>Dodge, Ram, And Chrysler Concepts</strong></h2>

<p>The RAM 1500 Revolution electric pickup (although not the production version introduced last month) and the Dodge Charger Daytona SRT were other highlights during the dealer event, as was already known. Yet the nearly extinct Chrysler brand also made an appearance to remind us that it would solely sell electric vehicles starting in 2028.</p>
<p>In 2022, the company unveiled the idea for the 400 horsepower (406 PS), dual-motor Airflow crossover as a competitor to the Ford Mustang Mach-E and Tesla Model Y. Nevertheless, it was already too late and when Chrysler informed us that the actual thing wouldn&#8217;t be available until 2024 or 2025. Yet, despite its attractive appearance, the 563-644 km/350–400 mile range sounds reasonable until you realize that the battery pack is a massive 118 kWh.</p>

<p><strong>Tesla</strong> did not mention the potential wireless EV charging release date or even whether the technology may be available to owners. Yet, there is undoubtedly a good reason the company chose to include it among looks into its charging future given its promise of daily charging without the need for handle <em>charge ports both day and night</em>.</p>
<p>Tesla&#8217;s head of global charging infrastructure <strong>Rebecca Tinucci</strong> concluded the Charging section of the presentation by saying, &#8220;We&#8217;ve got to grow our infrastructure, and sure, we want to power it via renewable sources. <p>The Southern California cafe and Supercharger station that Tesla has long teased were depicted on one side of the presentation slide in what looks to be a fresh depiction. <h2><strong>Not Just Tesla Has Been Highlighting Technology Lately</strong></h2>
<p>One of the top enterprises specializing in inductive EV charging for cars, <strong>WiTricity</strong>, will not say if the Tesla charging example is theirs or a licensed version of their technology. The <strong>Genesis GV60</strong> in its native market of South Korea is the sole <strong>OEM</strong> industrial application for which it is the only firm outside of China to provide the technology. For demonstration considerations, the company has nonetheless equipped a <strong>Tesla Model 3</strong> and a <strong>Ford Mustang Mach-E</strong> with wireless charging technology.</p>
<p><strong>Stellantis</strong>&#8216; <strong>Ram</strong> truck line teased an <strong>inductive charging robot </strong>at<strong> CES</strong> in January. It would enable hands-free charging without reserving the same space every day. In <em>2025 or 2026</em>, WiTricity forecasts a turning point in the market as more high-end. Eventually, mass-market vehicles will start to offer the technology as a feature or an option. But, if Tesla broadly uses the technology at that time, it may assist in drastically reducing the cost of entry for the technology.</p>

How Much Does A Tesla Weigh? | Check Your Tesla’s Weight

<p>The new clean vehicle tax credit, which came into effect in January 2023, is bringing down the cost of owning an electric vehicle. Before the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act), popular brands like Tesla and General Motors were not eligible because of the sales limit. <strong>Thanks to new legislation, some of the best EVs, such as the Tesla Model Y and Chevrolet Bolt now qualify for the tax credit.</strong> But electric vehicles assembled outside the US are now disqualified.</p>
<p>Normally, when an EV manufacturer sells 200,000 vehicles in the United States, the $7,500 federal tax credit halves to $3,750, and that process repeats a few times before being reduced to no credit. Tesla and General Motors already sold more than enough eligible EVs. So, there is no tax credit for these brands, right? Not quite. Let us explain.</p>
<p>With the Inflation Reduction Act, the 200,000 sales cap on tax credit is gone, and EVs from Tesla and General Motors are once again eligible for the tax credit. But there are now price caps for different kinds of vehicles. We try to sum up some of the new details of tax credit eligibility and created a list of vehicles eligible for the tax credit in the United States.</p>
<p><strong>Update 2 (18th Feb, 2023): </strong>Genesis Electrified GV70 became the first Hyundai Group EV to earn tax credit eligibility. The luxury SUV is being produced at Korean carmaker&#8217;s Alabama plant.</p>
<p><strong>Update 1:</strong> All Tesla Model Y variants, Ford Mustang Mach-E, VW ID.4, and Cadillac Lyriq are now eligible under the SUV MSRP cap $80,000, according to latest regulatory changes made by <a href="https://www.irs.gov/credits-deductions/manufacturers-and-models-for-new-qualified-clean-vehicles-purchased-in-2023-or-after">IRS</a> on February 3rd, 2023.</p>

<p>According to <em><a href="https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/hybrids-evs/electric-vehicles-that-qualify-for-new-ev-tax-credit-a9310530660/">Consumer Reports</a></em>, new tax credit rules will go into place in March 2023. This new bill will limit the credit value based on the vehicle&#8217;s battery origin, the origin of the battery materials, etc. And starting in 2024, the tax credit eligibility will be lost, if any materials of the battery are from &#8220;foreign entities of concern&#8221;, such as China and Russia. EV manufacturers are notifiying customers to finalize their order before the new rules take effect.</p>
<h3><strong>Do Leased Electric Vehicles Qualify for Tax Credit?</strong></h3>
<p>The EV tax credit requirements will get stricter each year through 2026. By the time all rules go into effect, a large portion of electric vehicles will lose their eligibility. But there is an alternative to purchasing an EV to benefit from clean vehicle incentives.</p>
<p>If an electric vehicle is leased, most of the requirements for purchasing a vehicle may not apply. For instance, you could lease an EV made outside the US and still get a tax credit. The credit will be received by the dealer, not the person leasing the vehicle, but it is up to your leaser to pass the saving on to your payments.</p>
<p>Thanks to new rules, expensive electric vehicles like Lucid Air, and Tesla Model S may also benefit from tax credit if a customer chooses to lease instead of purchase.</p>

<p>EPA published a list of electric cars that scored the highest MPGe, which is the MPG equivalent of the EV world. <strong>Hyundai IONIQ 6 is the most efficient electric car, according to EPA</strong>. Electric sedan&#8217;s RWD Long Range version scored a 140 MPGe. The second most efficient model is the 2022&#8217;s champion, Tesla Model 3. Popular sedan&#8217;s RWD variant got an MPGe score of 132. The third most efficient electric car is also an American-made: Lucid Air. Another Tesla vehicle, Model Y got the fourth place in EPA&#8217;s most efficient EVs ranking. Tesla&#8217;s all four models made it into the list. There are also three Hyundai, two Kia, and two Chevrolet models.</p>

According to a study published by <em>Cox Automotive</em>, average car buyers assume that an electric vehicle battery only lasts around 100,000 kilometers (65,000 miles). <strong>Although electric car batteries are prone to losing their charge capacity, like every other energy storage solution, these batteries use state-of-the-art anode/cathode chemistries that allow them to last at least 10 years, sometimes even up to 20 years.</strong> Customers shouldn&#8217;t worry about wearing their battery any time soon.</p>
<p>Batteries will eventually start to degrade and lose charging capacity over time. <strong>The average loss of battery capacity is around 1.5 to 2.5 percent per year.</strong> According to <em>Plug In America</em>, the luxury sedan Tesla Model S’s battery only loses 5 percent of its original battery capacity over the first 80,000 km (50,000 miles).</p>
<p>Most manufacturers, including Nissan, Tesla, and Toyota, offer an eight-year (or 160,000 km/100,000 miles) warranty on their electric car batteries. Some automakers, such as Hyundai, provide lifetime coverage for their EV batteries. BMW, Chevrolet, Tesla, Volkswagen, and Nissan will also cover a battery pack replacement if its capacity drops to a certain percentage (70% in most cases). <strong>If the car has less than 70% of its original capacity before the end of the eighth year, the warranty will cover all battery replacement costs.</strong></p>
<h3><strong>Electric Car Battery vs Smartphone Battery</strong></h3>
<p>Smartphones have no thermal management for the battery, and fast charging will result in a hot battery. In hot temperatures, battery reactions will speed up and degrade the battery quicker. That’s why smartphone batteries rarely last more than two years.</p>
<p>Electric cars, on the other hand, have advanced thermal management systems, which help the battery pack to optimize its efficiency and eliminate harmful effects of cold/hot temperatures caused by weather, heavy usage/lack of usage, etc.</p>
<h2><strong>How Much Does An Electric Car Battery Replacement Cost?</strong></h2>

<p>According to <a href="https://about.bnef.com/blog/battery-pack-prices-fall-to-an-average-of-132-kwh-but-rising-commodity-prices-start-to-bite/"><em>Bloomberg NEF</em></a>, the average price of lithium-ion batteries dropped from $1,160 per kWh in 2010 to $132 in 2021. Thanks to lower prices, electric car battery replacement costs are also dropping sharply. In order to decrease battery repair bills, automakers are also adopting the remanufactured battery pack strategy, similar to Tesla&#8217;s lower-cost replacement packs with refurbished battery modules.</p>
<p>There is sufficient data on the internet that tells us how much does a Tesla battery cost. According to <em><a href="https://www.findmyelectric.com/blog/tesla-battery-replacement-cost-explained/">FindmyElectric.com</a>, </em><strong>Tesla Model S full battery replacement should cost between $13,000 to $20,000.</strong> A full battery replacement of the premium electric SUV Model X would be around $14,000-$21,000. Tesla&#8217;s mid-size EVs, namely Model 3 and Model Y, are cheaper to repair. The battery pack replacement of these models costs $11,000-$16,000 including labor, miscellaneous parts. The exact replacement cost varies depending on the condition of the battery pack.</p>
<p>Not all EV manufacturers use remanufactured packs to make battery replacement more affordable. Ford, for example, asks more than $43,000 for a brand-new Mustang Mach-E battery pack in Canada. But Ford dealers in the US will charge you around $18,000 to $24,000 for a Mach-E replacement.</p>
<h3><strong>Does Electric Car Battery Disposal Cause Pollution?</strong></h3>
<p>Electric vehicles technically don’t produce any exhaust emissions like carbon monoxide (CO) and NOx. These types of vehicles are definitely cleaner than ICE vehicles. But that doesn’t mean EVs don’t have any carbon footprint. Electric cars use electricity to charge up and a high portion of the electricity generation causes heavy pollution.</p>
<p>EVs are also indirectly polluting the environment with their battery packs. The production and disposal of lithium-ion batteries definitely cause pollution. Of course, batteries and electric vehicles are getting cleaner every day, thanks to stricter rules implemented by governments that encourage manufacturers to act more environment-friendly, and promising developments in the lithium-ion battery recycling industry.</p>
<p><strong>When electric car batteries reach the end of their life, they can be recycled for valuable materials including lithium, nickel, manganese, cobalt, and graphite, which means electric car battery disposal can decrease EV&#8217;s carbon footprint.</strong></p>
<p>Tesla already recycles batteries from its vehicles. Volkswagen’s pilot recycling plant for used EV batteries has also begun operations. <strong>Elon Musk expects the auto industry to have enough battery materials inside the existing EV fleet in the next 30-40 years, eliminating the need for mining new materials. </strong>The first European lithium-ion battery cell manufacturer Northvolt produced its first cell made “100 percent from recycled nickel, manganese, and cobalt”. But approximately half of the materials in an EV battery pack are recycled. There is still a very long way to go in the battery recycling business.</p>

<h3><strong>Is It Possible to Repair/Recondition An Electric Car Battery?</strong></h3>
<p>When auto services accept an electric car with the inspection of battery failure, first they run a routine diagnosis and determine how much of the original energy storage capacity the battery can still provide. If there are broken battery modules, and the total capacity degraded to a level lower than 70 percent, the electric car battery will most likely be replaced with a new unit.</p>
<p>The electric car services usually don&#8217;t just swap bad modules for good ones, instead, they replace the entire battery with a brand new or remanufactured one. After a new battery pack is installed, the broken/old one is sent back to factories where broken modules will be replaced with good ones, and any other battery pack problems are solved.</p>
<p>Tesla has been using a similar approach to fix battery packs. Ideally for Tesla, all replacement batteries are remanufactured.</p>
