Chinese electric vehicle brands are a top priority at Licarco because the EV market has become increasingly dominated by pure electric Chinese cars. Last year, China sold more EVs than the rest of the world. BYD, NIO, ORA, and Geely are some of the biggest Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
Even though China has been producing millions of EVs for years, American drivers wouldn&#8217;t be able to buy one. It&#8217;s because vehicles made in China are subjected to a %27.5 import tariff in the US. Due to heavy taxation, Chinese brands had not prioritized the US auto market in their global plans. But that&#8217;s changing quickly, as more and more Chinese EV marques are expanding their reach towards western markets, including United States.
In this article, we gathered a list of Chinese EV brands and their expansion plans. We will update this post when an announcement is made regarding any Chinese EV maker&#8217;s global expansion.

Leapmotor, an emerging EV brand backed by Dahua Technology, has plans to enter the European market in 2023. The brand officials confirmed that Leapmotor would open showrooms in Europe. To finance its globalization plans, Hangzhou-based carmaker filed its first IPO that worths around $1.5bn at Hong Kong Exchange.
The brand has already started to sell electric vehicles in Turkey and Israel, starting with the compact hatchback called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-t03" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor T03</a>. The first EV to be showcased in Europe will probably be the electric sedan C01. With its sleek design, cell-to-chassis technology, and impressive performance figures, <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-c01" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor C01</a> will attract a lot of customers.

BYD first entered Norway with the full-size electric SUV called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-tang-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tang EV</a>. Over the next months, China&#8217;s biggest EV manufacturer will start selling vehicles all over the world. BYD EVs are already available in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. European countries where BYD will start operations before the end of 2022 are the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden.
BYD will export these three electric vehicle models to Old Continent; compact electric SUV <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-atto-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Atto 3</a>, electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-han-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Han EV</a>, and BYD Tang EV. India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will also be subject to BYD&#8217;s global expansion, as official statements confirmed.
Unfortunately, BYD has no plans to enter the American market yet. But there is a possibility of Chinese EV maker using its new premium brand, which reportedly will deliver a $145K+ luxury EV to the market, to attract customers from United States.

NIO is one of the first Chinese automakers, which officially confirms its entry into the US market. NIO-branded EVs will be on sale in the US starting in 2025. Large-size SUV ES8 is currently being tested on US roads. There is no official timeline for the US launch, though.
Chinese EV marque will also start selling EVs in Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The next move on the global plans is to enter more European markets such as Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. NIO is hoping to sell electric vehicles in 25 countries by 2025.
<h2>Xpeng</h2>

In February 2022, Xpeng opened its first showroom in Stockholm, Sweden. Guangzhou-based company will start selling EVs in Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden before the year ends. The company&#8217;s first offering will be the mid-range electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p5-600p" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P5</a>.
Xpeng expects half of its electric vehicle sales in 2025 to come from outside of China. Europe is its first choice but customers from the US will eventually get a taste of Xpeng&#8217;s popular cars in the near future. Chinese brand signed a dealership agreement with a Turkish company to sell EVs in Turkey as well. The first vehicle to be put on sale in Turkey will be <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p7-4wd-high-performance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P7</a>.
<h2>Zeekr</h2>

Geely is a global automotive group. There are brands under the Geely Group that sell vehicles all over the world. Zeekr will be joining those brands next year by entering the European market. EV-only brand will make it official in early 2023, as Zeekr announced.
Zeekr has only one model on sale called Zeekr 001, but it has plans to launch a total of seven EVs by 2025. Its 2025 sales goal in Europe is 100,000 vehicles. There is no word whether Zeekr will sell EVs in Scandinavia, western/or eastern Europe. Follow us for more details.

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially entered the United Kingdom and Germany with its EV-only brand ORA. GWM introduced the first vehicles to be put on sale in Europe earlier this year. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/ora-cat-64-kwh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ORA Cat/Funky Cat</a> is the first one for the western market.
The company appoints Emil Frey to distribute vehicles starting in Germany. That is not the first time GWM to choose Germany for its global expansion. Chinese automaker&#8217;s battery division SVOLT opened a battery plant in Germany as well. Recently SVOLT announced its second investment worth €2.0bn, which would enable them to produce lithium-ion battery cells directly in the country.

If you want to play games with an Xbox controller on your Tesla, use a data cable (not a charge-only USB cable that lacks the data transfer function) to plug your controller into your Tesla Model 3/Y&#8217;s main screen via the USB-C ports in the center console or the USB-A port in the glove box. If you prefer a wireless connection, or your controller cannot be connected to your Tesla via cable, just follow our guide down below.
Step 1. Buy a wireless adapter/dongle for pairing your Xbox controller. <a href="https://amzn.to/3HCaTTv">8Bitdo Wireless USB Adapter 2</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/3jyyigK">MAYFLASH Magic NS 2</a> are two of the most popular choices.
Step 2. Plug the wireless adapter into your Tesla via USB data ports. Use a USB-A to USB-C adapter if necessary. Please be aware that newer Model 3/Y vehicles don&#8217;t have USB data ports in the center console. You will need to use the USB-A port inside the glove compartment.
Step 3. Put your wireless adapter into pairing mode. 8Bitdo&#8217;s pairing button is on the bottom, whereas the Magic NS&#8217;s pairing mode can be activated by pressing the black button on the side until the light goes green and blinks fast.

Step 4. In order to put your controller into pairing mode, first press the Xbox button for one second until it lights up. Then, press and hold the circular pair button located on the back of the controller for three seconds.
Step 5. Once the wireless adapter and Xbox controller ared paired up, the lights on both of these devices will stop blinking. You will see a notification message on your Tesla&#8217;s screen that confirms the pairing.

Leapmotor T03 is a small-size electric hatchback first hit the market in May 2020. It is the second EV that Dahua-backed EV start-up built and launched. T03 comes with a 41-kWh battery pack, which is enough to give this small EV a range of 403 kilometers, according to <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/ev-range-tests-explained-comparison-between-epa-ratings-wltp-nedc-and-cltc">CLTC test cycle</a>.
Chinese company recently announced that Leapmotor T03 has passed the European Union&#8217;s Whole Vehicle Type Approval and it is ready to be sold in EU. Leapmotor also officially confirmed its entry into the Israeli market with the very same model. First batch of T03 are on their way to Israel. The official pricing of the electric hatchback will be announced by Leapmotor&#8217;s partner in Israel called Metro Motor.

Regenerative braking technology is a bliss for the efficiency of <a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars">all-electric vehicles</a>. But it takes time to get used to this helpful feature. Sometimes it gets annoying or makes no sense on some occasions. There is an option to turn it off, but things get complicated with <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-cars-have-been-sold">Tesla vehicles</a>. Let us explain.
If you want to turn off regenerative braking on your Tesla, you probably won&#8217;t find any disabling option in the menu. Because turning off regenerative braking is not possible on a Tesla. It is also impossible to adjust the regen on Tesla vehicles built since Q2 2020. Tesla Model S/3/X/Y vehicles built before that date can still be able to offer adjustments. You just need to navigate through the main screen and go to Driving, then change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; to &#8216;Low&#8217; for reducing the level of regenerative braking.
Newer Tesla vehicles come with standard level regen as default. There is no &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; adjustment option anymore. So, why wouldn&#8217;t Tesla allow its drivers to adjust regenerative braking? The main reason is that the vehicle range is heavily affected by not being able to recuperate the energy you otherwise lost to heat, etc by pressing the brake pedal. If you live in a cold area or your battery is fully charged, your Tesla vehicle would warn you about the regenerative braking is being limited. That&#8217;s because the battery is unable to receive the energy from the regen system and the battery&#8217;s management system temporarily turns off the regenerative braking feature. It might take up to half an hour for your vehicle to recover from that. In order to reduce the negative effects of this limitation, you can enable an extra feature for automatically applying the brake pedals instead of regen braking. Just go to Controls &gt; Pedals &amp; Steering, then turn on the &#8216;Apply Brakes When Regenerative Braking is Limited&#8217; option.
<h3>Does Regenerative Braking Work on Icy/Snowy Roads?</h3>
Not being able to turn off regenerative braking might sound dangerous on icy/snowy roads, but Tesla has a solution for this. The Cooper 3-door hatchback, which will be entirely electric and arrive in 2024, was revealed by MINI. The EV and its ICE-powered counterpart will be on sale together. However, the platforms for the two vehicles will differ.
Spotlight Automotive, a joint venture between Great Wall Motors and the BMW Group, created an EV-specific architecture on which the next MINI will run. According to Autocar, a single electric motor will provide 181 horsepower (135 kW/184 PS) in ordinary form and 215 horsepower (160 kW/218 PS) in the SE model. The vehicle maintains its predecessors&#8217; three-door body style and a small footprint while continuing the progressive stylistic approach. It gains wider tracks, a slightly longer wheelbase, reduced overhangs, and larger oval-shaped headlamps than the current model.
A bigger free-standing spherical OLED touchscreen situated in the middle of the dashboard will enhance the interior of the next MINI. While the majority of functions will be integrated into the infotainment system. There will also be physical controls on the center console and steering wheel. Additionally, conventional ignition keys will be available for both ICE and EV models.

Saudi Arabia has chosen to enter the EV market by launching its own brand with Foxconn after investing substantially in Lucid.  Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman seeks to diversify the country&#8217;s economy to lessen its dependency on the oil sector.
The kingdom&#8217;s sovereign wealth fund announced this week that it would establish the Ceer electric car brand together with Foxconn of Taiwan. It will create EVs in Saudi Arabia for the first time ever.  It also designs, manufactures, and markets various vehicles for customers in the nation and the MENA area, including sedans and sports utility vehicles.

CATL, the world&#8217;s biggest lithium-ion battery cell manufacturer, will invest €7.34 billion into a huge battery plant in Hungary. The battery giant announced today that it plans to start construction for its second European battery plant in the Hungarian city of Debrecen. The new plant will be one of the largest factories Chinese battery maker ever built. It will cover an area of 2.21 million square meters. The planned annual production capacity is 100 GWh. According to documents issued by the company in China, the Hungary plant&#8217;s all phases will be complete in 64 months/or before the end of 2027.

After CATL&#8217;s official announcement, Mercedes-Benz said the plant would supply battery cells for its EV factories in Germany and Hungary. Mercedes recently confirmed an investment of €1 billion to expand EV production capacity at the Kecskemét, Hungary plant.
CATL will not only deliver lithium-ion cells but also battery modules for European carmakers. In May, the company made a deal with BMW to supply cylindrical NMC cells starting from 2025. These cells will probably be produced in Hungary.
Hungary is home to car factories from 14 out of the top 20 automakers in the world. Volkswagen Group and Stellantis have also been producing electric vehicles in this country. According to Chinese sources, CATL&#8217;s Hungary investment is not the only one. Another Chinese EV battery maker EVE is also planning a significant investment in a lithium-ion battery cell plant in the same city. It will be smaller than CATL&#8217;s plant, but it will definitely benefit Hungary&#8217;s EV industry.
The first European battery plant CATL built is due this year. Its annual capacity is around 14 GWh. German authorities recently issued a permit for an 8 GWh production, though. CATL originally planned to expand its German factory, but bureaucratic procedures made them choose a much larger site for the second plant.
