The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.
🚗 Equipped with LiDAR sensor-based autonomous driving mode, a new infotainment system powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and numerous interior design changes, the exact price of the 001 will be revealed upon its release on February 27th.

⚡#BYD has revamped its popular electric sedan Han, which sold 220,000 units last year. The 2024 version of the car has been launched in China with a starting price of $25,000.
🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

#Audi has introduced its first car developed on the all-electric PPE platform, the Q6 e-tron.
The Q6 e-tron, which is priced 10% cheaper than its sibling model, the Porsche Macan EV, developed on the same platform, stands out with both more compact and lightweight electric motors and a large prismatic cell-based massive battery.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

🟢Announcing that it will convert diesel mining trucks to electric in 2021 together with #ABB, #Hitachi shared that the first vehicle has been produced.
⛏️The giant truck started to be used in a copper-gold mine in Zambia. It climbs with an electrical connection that feeds the battery, similar to a trolleybus, while going to pick up load. When turning downhill while loaded, it recharges its battery thanks to regenerative braking.
🔋In this way, ABB and Hitachi completed the transformation with a smaller one instead of a megawatt-hour battery. They made this possible thanks to the regenerative braking ability of the huge electric motors seen in the prototype photo.
🔌Mining truck&#8217;s previously had a giant internal combustion engine with 16 cylinders and 2,534 horsepower. It will relatively reduce the impact of mining on the environment by ending diesel consumption and zeroing out emissions after the conversion to electric.

The introduction of a 600 kW mid-race charging session has been postponed until next year in the electric open-wheel racing championship known as Formula E. This year, the series had intended to feature a brief charging pit stop during races, however, issues with the supply chain have prevented this from happening.
This year, Formula E unveiled a new, quicker &#8220;Gen3&#8221; car that is lighter and more potent than the vehicle from the previous year. The new vehicle has a large DC charge capacity, which not only opens up the possibility of mid-race recharge but also helps to enable better regenerative braking.
<h2>GEN3 Models Will Change The Game For Formula E</h2>
This year, the series is expected to include mid-race charging, with each race requiring one &#8220;pit stop&#8221; for a charge that would last around 30 seconds. Considering how quickly EVs charge, 30 seconds may not seem like much time, but every second counts because Gen3 cars charge at such a fast pace.
With a charge rate of 600 kW, a 30-second charge may provide around 5 kWh of energy, about 1/8th the size of the 39 kWh battery pack in the Gen3 model. In just 30 seconds, vehicles can charge more than 10%.
According to Formula E, the technology for these chargers is fully developed, but supply channels for the ABB charging unit that competitors would utilize have proved problematic.
As a result, the original schedule to introduce charging at the start of this season was delayed until midway through. It now appears as if the chargers would only be available for the final one or two race weekends of the year.
Consequently, the plans to introduce that point turn into a question of justice because, in a racing season that is already close, implementing a modification at the very end of the campaign might ultimately decide the title.
Some teams opposed that, saying that the regulations shouldn&#8217;t alter in the middle of the season and should remain the same the entire time. Porsche has specifically opposed the rule change, despite presently leading both the teams&#8217; and drivers&#8217; championships.
Instead, the series now plans on introducing charging from the start of the 2024 season. It appears optimistic that supply difficulties will be resolved by then and that racing teams would be more accepting of a full-season shift.

Formula E Postpones Its Plans For 600 KW Mid-Race Recharge Until Next Year

McLaren Racing is finally entering Formula E next season. There have been rumors that the Formula 1 team is planning to expand into Formula E and it became official that the team will join the electric single-seater series alongside Extreme E and IndyCar.
Zak Brown, McLaren Racing CEO, stated that &#8220;McLaren Racing always seeks to compete against the best and on the leading edge of technology, providing our fans, partners, and people with new ways to be excited, entertained, and inspired.&#8221;
He also said that Formula E fulfills the criteria that the team seeks in a racing series to join, and it will be helpful to McLaren strategically, commercially, and technically. Since McLaren is competing in Extreme E, Brown believes that Formula E will provide its team a competitive advantage through a greater understanding of EV racing while continuing to drive McLaren its sustainability pathway.
The announcement of McLaren replacing the Mercedes-EQ team in Formula E clears the air that last year’s championship-winning team will leave the series. Over the previous eight years, many OEMs have competed in Formula E, however, most of them left due to the limited opportunities for technology transfer from the racetrack to road-going electric vehicles.

Announcing its plan to quit last August, Mercedes-EQ has stated that they left the Formula E series because the team will focus on Formula 1. Rather than shutting it down completely, McLaren will take up the operation, which is based in Brackley, England alongside the Mercedes-AMG F1 team.
Ian James, the team principal of the Mercedes-EQ, will continue as the leader of McLaren’s Formula E team. He stated that “Since our inception in 2019, performance, sustainability, and adaptability have been the keys to our success. Becoming part of the McLaren Racing family is a privilege. I&#8217;m very much looking forward to this next chapter for the team and will be a proud member of it in Season 9. Until then, we will be focused on delivering the best results possible as the Mercedes-EQ Formula E Team, for the remainder of the current season.”
The next season’s Gen3 car in Formula E will be much lighter, and faster and have a shorter wheelbase and less carbon footprint than Gen2. Also, there will be limited technical development for Gen3 vehicles. However, McLaren has already been involved in other series, like IndyCar, that also have limitations in technology development in favor of competitive and entertaining racing, so McLaren has no reason to leave this series any time soon.
In Formula 1 and IndyCar, McLaren is making its own powertrain; however, in Formula E, it won’t be making its own because it will come from an outside supplier.
