The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.

🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

A New Battery Made of Aluminum & Sulfur Offers Cheap Energy Storage

Water has traditionally been the opponent of scientists working to accelerate the development of batteries. Lithium-ion batteries, for example, must generally be manufactured in remarkably dry conditions in terms of holding large amounts of charge. However, a recent discovery suggests that a certain type of lithium-ion battery can specifically hold water.
Ions flow between both the two electrodes of a battery to adjust the electric charges created throughout charging / discharging. Electrolytes are the battery component responsible for this. Thus according to Argonne senior battery chemist Zhengcheng &#8220;John&#8221; Zhang, researchers at the U.S. Department of Energy&#8217;s (DOE) Argonne National Laboratory developed a special battery electrolyte that can hold thousand times as many water-efficient electrolytes based on a systematic modeling technique of water in various electrolyte environments created through previous computational methods.
Since lithium-ion batteries are &#8220;dry-cell,&#8221; those that could only contain small quantities of moisture, necessitating the use of specialized production facilities. The team was capable of creating a circumstance in which enormously more water molecules can be stably absorbed by the electrolyte by using an electrolyte consisting of two types of salts — a lithium salt and an ionic liquid.
Even trace amounts of water are capable of degrading power usage. That is because nanoscale &#8220;puddles&#8221; of water molecules respond quickly with the electrolyte, producing corrosive byproducts that eat away at the battery.
<h2>New Battery Electrolyte That Can Hold A Thousand Times More Water Than Conventional Electrolytes</h2>
Moreover, the team&#8217;s independent variable is that a new electrolyte made of a lithium salt and an ionic liquid might also detach and bind up water, sequestering individual water molecules.
