The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.

⚡#BYD has revamped its popular electric sedan Han, which sold 220,000 units last year. The 2024 version of the car has been launched in China with a starting price of $25,000.
🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

The Q6 e-tron, which is priced 10% cheaper than its sibling model, the Porsche Macan EV, developed on the same platform, stands out with both more compact and lightweight electric motors and a large prismatic cell-based massive battery.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Volkswagen struggles with developing its new generation electric vehicle platform, delaying the ID. Golf model by 15 months.
Initially expected to launch in 2028, the SSP platform-based electric Golf won&#8217;t hit the roads before 2029, according to German media.
The Tiguan-equivalent electric SUV, T-Sport, developed on the same platform, won&#8217;t be ready for mass production until 2031.
Cariad, a subsidiary of Volkswagen Group, is working on a brand new operating system for vehicles produced with SSP. The electric-electronic side is expected to integrate architecture licensed through the Rivian investment.
The MEB+ platform, ready by 2026, will fill the five-year development gap. Thanks to the 800V architecture, vehicles based on MEB+ are anticipated to have significantly reduced charging times.

Volkswagen Delays Electric Golf to 2029

Volkswagen made a mess with the first steps of its electrification plan. Herbert Diess, former VW CEO paid the price with his job last year. Now there is a new man in charge, who happens to admire the German carmaker&#8217;s popular model series. After revamping the EV software project, Volkswagen&#8217;s new boss Oliver Blume now officially confirmed that his firm&#8217;s global models, such as Tiguan, will get an all-electric variant.
German Chancellor Olaf Scholz attended a works council meeting yesterday at Volkswagen&#8217;s headquarters in Wolfsburg. The exciting part is VW&#8217;s announcement regarding the electric Tiguan.
A spokesperson confirmed the Tiguan EV, which will probably be called ID. Tiguan, will enter production at the Wolfsburg factory in 2026. It will most likely be an ID.4 replacement. So, we expect a similarly sized and priced electric SUV.
The new Tiguan will be based on the German automaker&#8217;s recently updated EV-dedicated platform called MEB-Plus. This new modular architecture will be able to work with low-cost <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/lithium-ion-battery-cell-types-lfp-nmc-cells-explained" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LFP batteries</a>. Thanks to new battery options, Volkswagen will not only make cheaper EVs but also build models with more than 700 kilometers of range. ID. Tiguan could offer that much range and also support 200-kW DC charging, according to rumors.
<h2>Fully Electric Golf is Coming Back</h2>

The second good news is about electric Golf. It originally entered the market in 2014, then six years later discontinued after the ID.3&#8217;s highly-anticipated launch. VW&#8217;s Oliver Blume rumoredly made the product team ditch ID.2 plans for a new Golf EV. Now it is hopefully back in the game with a new name: ID. Golf.
Blume acknowledges that Golf is an icon and it should be brought into the electric age. For the purpose of doing that, the VW team has completely redesigned the ID.2. It will be based on the same platform as the electric Tiguan, which is called MEB-Plus. 
Rumors suggest that the first concept named as ID. Life will debut this March. The production of the next-gen e-Golf will hopefully start in 2025. After launching ID. Tiguan and ID. Golf, the next step of Volkswagen&#8217;s electrification plan is to build its flagship EV codenamed Trinity. Customers will have to wait for a couple of more years for Germany&#8217;s so-called &#8216;Tesla killer&#8217;.

Tiguan is the best-selling Volkswagen vehicle since 2019. Its popularity hasn&#8217;t been affected by the fully electric models recently launched. According to recent rumors published by <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.carscoops.com/2022/01/2025-vw-tiguan-will-the-future-be-electric-for-vw-groups-popular-suv/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Carscoops</a>, Volkswagen will probably let the popular SUV live through the electrification era. The 3rd generation Tiguan, which is due in 2025, will most likely get an electric variant alongside the plug-in hybrid and petrol/diesel variants.
Volkswagen will unveil the third-generation Tiguan in 2024, and start deliveries the next year. If European emission regulations keep getting stricter, Volkswagen will have no choice but to offer Tiguan Mk3 in hybrid and fully-electric variants.
Carscoops shared possible design renderings of the electric variant. It has the signature look of the Tiguan series on the front, but front grilles are replaced with fully-shut panels which will improve the aerodynamics of the Tiguan EV. German automaker might also implement a light bar as the tailgate of the next Tiguan.

Volkswagen expects only 25 percent of its auto sales to come from EVs by 2026. That estimation is enough to be convinced by the Tiguan EV rumors. C-SUVs are getting a lot of demand from both European and Asian customers. A fully-electric Tiguan would sell like hotcakes in big auto markets such as China, Germany, and the UK. 
VW plans to electrify every vehicle its brands offer until the early 2030s. Tiguan will surely provide much-needed help in the SUV market, as <a href="https://www.licarco.com/volkswagen-id-4-pro-s-awd/">VW ID.4</a> is not the demand champion that Volkswagen needs it to be.
