The Chinese tech company Xiaomi is setting up an R&D center in Germany as part of its goal to become a global car manufacturer.
Led by former BMW executive Rudolf Dittrich, the research center has begun initial work with a small team, focusing on developing and testing new technologies. The company aims to adapt technologies tested in high-end models like the SU7 Ultra for more affordable vehicles.
Planning to start electric vehicle sales in the European market by 2027 at the latest, Xiaomi’s primary focus remains the Chinese market. With delivery times for its only model, the SU7, reaching up to eight months, the company is also addressing major priorities such as building a second factory and starting mass production of the electric SUV YU7, while continuing to advance its technology development without slowing down.
