The risk of battery fires in electric vehicles is coming to an end!

A few weeks ago, CATL’s NMC and LFP cell battery packs were the first to comply with the regulation, and now BYD’s Blade battery has also passed.

Starting July 2026, all electric vehicles sold must have batteries that do not catch fire after thermal runaway, and any smoke produced must not cause injury to the driver or passengers.

It’s now safe to say that a battery pack must not catch fire to be released to the market. Additionally, the pack should not leak or cause any electrical faults if impacted from below.

While major battery manufacturers like CATL and BYD have already adapted to the new regulation, smaller-scale companies face a challenging process. This regulation, set to reshape the global battery industry, suggests that batteries unable to be sold in China may find their way to Europe and other regions.
