Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) announced that the iconic Freelander, discontinued in 2015, will be relaunched as an electric vehicle.
The British company, now operating under a multi-brand system comprising Jaguar, Range Rover, Discovery, and Defender, will introduce Freelander as a sub-brand, initially launching in China.
Using the T1X platform from JLR's Chinese manufacturing partner Chery, the Freelander will first be produced as a plug-in hybrid, followed by a fully electric version.
The new Freelander is slated to go on sale in the second half of 2026 through Chery-operated dealerships, with global sales expected to follow.
