New vehicles developed by Tesla on the same platform as the current Model Y may soon enter production.
According to Business Insider, the week of June 30, Tesla's Giga Texas factory will pause production for a week to conduct maintenance and upgrades on the Cybertruck and Model Y production lines.
At the April shareholder meeting, Tesla reiterated its goal of starting production of affordable models in the first half of the year. Transitioning to the new Model Y, Tesla stated that its four factories are increasing shared component use while preparing for new models. During the end-of-month factory shutdown, Tesla may officially begin production of its new vehicles.
The latest software update has largely confirmed the design of a new 6-seater Model Y. This vehicle, with a wheelbase approximately 15 cm longer, is expected to be more compact and produced at a lower cost, likely rolling off the assembly line alongside the anticipated "Model Q."
Currently focused on launching its robotaxi service, Tesla is expected to hold a general unveiling event to introduce its new vehicles.
