Robots that automate the charging process for electric vehicles are rapidly becoming widespread. Already common in China, this system is now being tested by Hyundai.
The Korean company, which introduced its autonomous charging robot two years ago, has deployed it at Incheon Airport. The robot establishes wireless communication with the vehicle at the charging station, opens the charging flap, inserts the charging gun into the socket, and removes it to complete the process once charging is finished.
This application, designed as a precursor to driverless cars, will enable electric vehicle drivers to start charging quickly at stations in the near future. It will also address potential challenges faced by elderly and disabled drivers during the charging process.
