China’s Dongfeng Motor will launch Nammi 01 next week. The first car with both sodium ion chemistry and solid electrolyte.

Dongfeng has been working on solid-state batteries since 2018 together with Ganfeng Lithium. The company actually operates in the lithium mining-processing sector. It will launch the first mass-produced model simultaneously with the Guangzhou Motor Show. The motor show will start on 17 November.

The company managed to keep the battery cost at a reasonable level with the solid-state sodium ion battery and achieved a charging speed that will provide a range of 200 kilometers in 8 minutes. Dongfeng Motor will bring the vehicle to the customer at around 13 thousand dollars. Although technical details are not yet clear, it is estimated that a hybrid chemistry is preferred in the battery instead of a full solid-state electrolyte.

Dongfeng Nammi 01 attracts attention with its use of in-wheel hub motors in addition to its battery. It will probably be equipped with the solution of Protean Electric, a British startup operating under Istanbul-based Bedeo.

We will be curiously waiting for the battery and charging performance of Nammi 01. The company will also sell a cheaper version with an LFP battery. Follow us for the new electrics to be introduced at the Guangzhou Motor Show!
