BYD, which sold a record-breaking 204,000 fully electric vehicles in May, introduced its new $16,600 electric sedan yesterday at a trade show in China.
The 4,720 mm long BYD Seal 06 EV, developed on the e-Platform 3.0 Evo, is a more affordable version of the Seal, which retails for 1.85 million lira in Turkey. The top-tier model, equipped with a 56 kWh LFP battery, is estimated to offer a 545 km range and is set to go on sale this month.
To cut costs, BYD equipped the entry-level model with a 110 kW (150 HP) motor and a 46 kWh battery, bringing the starting price of the Seal 06 EV down to 120,000 yuan (~$16,600). The exact sale price and full specifications will be announced this month.
Despite its low price, the Seal 06 EV will come standard with DiPilot 100 autonomous driving features. The fully loaded Seal 06, priced above $20,000, will also feature the company’s advanced intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C.
BYD, which groups its sedan models under the Seal series and its SUV models under the Sealion series, is highly likely to bring the Seal 06 to Europe. This budget-friendly sedan, expected to offset the decline in Seal sales, indicates BYD’s shift to focus on a lower price segment, as even they couldn’t compete with the Xiaomi SU7.
