Chinese automaker BYD has officially launched its 5.3-meter-long electric luxury sedan, the Yangwang U7, for sale.
Equipped with four motors delivering a combined 1,306 horsepower, a 135.5 kWh battery promising a 720 km range, and a starting price of $88,000, the U7 introduces the world’s first 'magnetic suspension' system.
Unlike traditional suspensions, this system, managed by four electric motors with a total power of 50 kW, offers a 5-millisecond response time and high precision, elevating driving comfort and safety to the highest level.
In a test, the vehicle maintained road control even when two tires blew out at a speed of 160 km/h.
With the help of LiDAR and other sensors at the front, the DiSus-Z suspension can detect road imperfections and respond quickly, providing a smooth travel experience akin to China’s maglev trains.
Integrated into an 800V architecture, the suspension motors can also charge the vehicle’s battery as they move. This means that the motors’ activity caused by road irregularities will enable energy recovery.
