BYD has officially begun production by opening its factory in Brazil, its top export market. The first vehicle produced at the facility in Camaçari, Bahia state, is the electric Dolphin Mini (Seagull).
Previously owned by Ford, the factory was transformed into BYD’s production complex in just 15 months with an investment of approximately $1 billion.
In addition to passenger car production, the complex will manufacture electric bus/truck chassis and LFP batteries.
🛠️ The complex has an annual production capacity of 150,000 electric vehicles. Alongside the Dolphin Mini, production of the SUV Song Pro and sedan Chaser 05 models has also started at the Brazil factory.
🎯 Entering the Brazilian market in 2021 and selling over 130,000 vehicles to date, BYD is the leader in Brazil’s electric vehicle market, with nearly 40,000 sales in the first five months of the year.
💵 The BYD Dolphin Mini is priced at approximately $20,000 in Brazil.
