A 487 HP motor weighing just 24 kg for the electric Mercedes!

Weighing only 24 kg and measuring 6.5 cm thick, this motor delivers 487 horsepower and 800 Nm of torque, and is used by Koenigsegg, Ferrari, Lamborghini, and McLaren.

Starting as Tim Woolmer’s doctoral project and evolving into a global leader in its field, YASA was acquired by Mercedes in 2021. Following the investment, a factory was established, capable of producing over 25,000 axial flux motors annually starting in 2026.

The first Mercedes vehicle to use this motor is being developed on the AMG.EA platform and can achieve up to 1,000 horsepower.

Despite being much smaller than the radial flux motors powering today’s electric vehicles, axial flux motors produce more power and torque. However, due to their higher cost, they are currently limited to super/hypercars.

YASA plans to unveil a more affordable in-wheel hub motor solution within the next year.
