Slate Auto, a U.S.-based company backed by Amazon, has revealed its first vehicle. This 4.4-meter pick-up, offered in a single trim with a single motor (150 kW) and no paint, grabs attention with its $25,000 price tag.
Equipped with a 52.7 kWh battery for a 241 km range or an 84.3 kWh battery for 386 km, the vehicle lacks an infotainment screen. Instead, it features a holder for drivers to mount their own phone or tablet.
To keep costs low, Slate opted for unpainted body panels, shared components, and a minimalist interior. The result is an affordable compact pick-up with a 240-380 km range, capable of charging from 20% to 80% in 30 minutes, with some body parts removable and replaceable using a screwdriver, a 635 kg payload capacity, and plans for an SUV version.
Slate Auto aims to start deliveries by the end of 2026. The company will focus on preparing for mass production by the end of this year, with the first vehicles expected to roll off the assembly line next year.
