There are four variants of the IONIQ 6; two rear-wheel-drive options with 53-kWh and 77.4-kWh battery packs. There will also be two all-wheel-drive models that can produce up to 325 horsepower. Rear-wheel-drive IONIQ 6 with the smaller battery will consume around 14 kWh every 62 miles (100 km) travelled.

Korean automaker has plans to build a new EV-dedicated factory in the United States, but it will take years for Hyundai EVs to earn eligibility for the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/which-electric-vehicles-are-eligible-for-tax-credit-in-us">IRA tax credit</a>.

Cadillac revamped its fully electric SUV LYRIQ for the 2024 model year. It is officially on sale for pre-order. American automaker puts a 33-inch curved LED display inside the LYRIQ. 11.5 kW on-board charger is standard now. Luxury and Sport trims will also get the faster 19.2-kW charger. 
Electric SUV offers wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, wireless phone charging, one-pedal driving, and safe driving features such as Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Forward Collision Alert, Front Pedestrian Braking, Rear Park Assist, etc. Cadillac&#8217;s Super Cruise hands-free driver-assist technology is available on Luxury and Sport trims. 
2024 Cadillac Lyriq is eligible for the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/which-electric-vehicles-are-eligible-for-tax-credit-in-us">tax credit</a>, as long as your MSRP doesn&#8217;t exceed the IRS&#8217;s $80,000 price cap. The starting price for the Lyriq AWD is $62,090. It goes all the way to $79,905 with the Lyriq Sport 3 trim with illuminated front grille and Super Cruise autopilot technology installed.

The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

According to a press statement from Ford, the company desires to build a vehicle that is &#8220;completely updatable, continually evolving, and enables towing, hauling, exportable power, and limitless new improvements owners will demand.&#8221;
The announcement comes just days before a preview event for Ford&#8217;s massive BlueOval City facility in Tennessee, which the firm claims would be capable of producing 500,000 electric trucks per year at total capacity.

In a subsequent speech from the site of the future facility, Farley said, &#8220;Your vehicle that was made here will literally be better and different every morning; it will learn how you use it. &#8220;To improve your vehicle, we&#8217;re going to send software to it every day, every week, and every year.&#8221;
That is completely consistent with what Farley stated in February. Then, he said that in order to fit more power into the smallest battery pack feasible, future Ford EVs would be &#8220;radically streamlined&#8221; with fewer body designs, fewer construction choices, and a reduction in weight and complexity.
The company stated that in order to scale up EV production and increase customer accessibility, BlueOval City is a critical part. Farley has stated that an EV price war might make the industry incredibly competitive; this may have already begun to happen in the market in recent months as seen by Tesla&#8217;s huge price drops and the subsequent price decreases for the Mach-E, for example.

The new clean vehicle tax credit, which came into effect in January 2023, is bringing down the cost of owning an electric vehicle. Before the IRA (Inflation Reduction Act), popular brands like Tesla and General Motors were not eligible because of the sales limit. Thanks to new legislation, some of the best EVs, such as the Tesla Model Y and Chevrolet Bolt now qualify for the tax credit. But electric vehicles assembled outside the US are now disqualified.
Normally, when an EV manufacturer sells 200,000 vehicles in the United States, the $7,500 federal tax credit halves to $3,750, and that process repeats a few times before being reduced to no credit. Tesla and General Motors already sold more than enough eligible EVs. So, there is no tax credit for these brands, right? Not quite. Let us explain.
With the Inflation Reduction Act, the 200,000 sales cap on tax credit is gone, and EVs from Tesla and General Motors are once again eligible for the tax credit. But there are now price caps for different kinds of vehicles. According to <a href="https://www.consumerreports.org/cars/hybrids-evs/electric-vehicles-that-qualify-for-new-ev-tax-credit-a9310530660/">Consumer Reports</a>, new tax credit rules will go into place in March 2023. This new bill will limit the credit value based on the vehicle&#8217;s battery origin, the origin of the battery materials, etc. And starting in 2024, the tax credit eligibility will be lost, if any materials of the battery are from &#8220;foreign entities of concern&#8221;, such as China and Russia. EV manufacturers are notifiying customers to finalize their order before the new rules take effect.
<h3>Do Leased Electric Vehicles Qualify for Tax Credit?</h3>
The EV tax credit requirements will get stricter each year through 2026. By the time all rules go into effect, a large portion of electric vehicles will lose their eligibility. But there is an alternative to purchasing an EV to benefit from clean vehicle incentives.
If an electric vehicle is leased, most of the requirements for purchasing a vehicle may not apply. For instance, you could lease an EV made outside the US and still get a tax credit. The credit will be received by the dealer, not the person leasing the vehicle, but it is up to your leaser to pass the saving on to your payments.
Thanks to new rules, expensive electric vehicles like Lucid Air, and Tesla Model S may also benefit from tax credit if a customer chooses to lease instead of purchase.

Tesla May Introduce the $25,000 Model 2 in 2024

Compass Mineral International has been starting to focus on extracting lithium more efficiently. The company is not only a leading supplier of essential minerals like salt and sulfate of potash used in plant fertilizer but also has made partnerships with Ford and LG Energy in supplying lithium.
Compass Mineral has doubled lithium extraction by developing a new technology to extract the minerals with minimal environmental impact. The company will continue to play a vital role in the industry as the major salt producer in North America and the UK.
The company has been active in the industry for almost two centuries and its revenue is exceeding $1 billion per year. The recent aim of the Compass Mineral is to diminish its reliance on weather-dependent minerals and to divert its focus toward the EV industry which has high growth potential.
Moreover, with the Inflation Reduction Act, the EV industry will grow even more with a tax credit of up to $7,500 on new and $4,000 on used EV purchases. Also, for an EV to qualify for the tax credit, 40% of its battery minerals must be sourced from the US or its free trade partners, which will rise to 80% after 2026.

Compass Minerals using new extraction tech with ‘minimal environmental impact’

EV sales continue to grow and have reached a record high in Q2 with a 13% increase. Tesla as a customer of Panasonic is the leader in sales. To meet such high demand for batteries, Panasonic is trying to double down its production. The company published plans in April to invest 400 billion yen (approximately $2.9 billion) in “growth areas” including automotive batteries and supply chain software.
In December, Panasonic Energy of North America announced that a production facility is planned to be built in Reno, Nevada in addition to its existing production at Tesla’s Gigafactory 1 site in Sparks, Nevada.

The Japanese giant has another plan to increase its battery production: a new EV battery plant in Kansas. The governor&#8217;s office of Kansas stated in a press release that Panasonic has picked De Soto, Kansas for its new project that will bring up to $4 billion in investments and create up to 8,000 jobs.
In the press release, it is stated that the Attracting Powerful Economic Expansion Act (SB 347), or APEX Act is the motivation for the incentive decision. “When the Kansas Legislature passed the APEX legislation, this was the kind of megaproject we had in mind,” Representative Ron Ryckman of Kansas said.
After the deal between Panasonic and Kansas State is signed, the governor’s office has revealed the details of the $829.2-million incentive package that includes a $500 million investment tax credit that stretches over five years and a $234 million payroll rebate paid over 10 years, among other sweeteners.
The new factory in De Soto is planned to be larger than Panasonic and Tesla’s Gigafactory in Nevada. Panasonic announced in February that the mass production of lithium-ion batteries for Tesla is planned to begin by 2024.

A $4-billion EV battery plant by Panasonic will be built in Kansas

Hyundai Motor has validated its intention to construct a new assembly plant but has declined to provide specifics about its location. &#8220;We are excited to announce a new EV plant plan in the United States soon, but we do not have details to share at this time,&#8221; Hyundai told in the statement.
According to Reuters, the new Georgia factory will produce both the Hyundai Ioniq 7 and the Kia EV9 — 7-passenger battery-electric SUVs specifically designed for American drivers. Each is essentially a battery-powered variant of the Hyundai Telluride and Kia Palisade, the company&#8217;s largest vehicles. The ultimate official statement is likely to come later in the month, once President Biden travels to South Korea.
Hyundai announced recently a $300 million investment to transform its Alabama production plant to produce the battery-electric Genesis GV 70 and a hybrid Santa Fe. The GV 70 will indeed be Hyundai&#8217;s first electric vehicle produced in the United States. Kia has stated that it will have 14 electric vehicles by 2027. Hyundai has stated that it will launch 17 vehicles by 2030, including six for its luxury Genesis brand.
<h2>Free Land, Grants, Tax Credits, And Workforce</h2>

SK Innovation, a battery supplier to Hyundai and Kia, already operates two battery factories in Georgia. One of them manufactures batteries for Volkswagen and began production earlier this year. Another one will provide batteries to Ford, which is constructing a new EV manufacturing facility in Tennessee. According to Reuters, the Ioniq 7&#8217;s battery will be supplied by SK On, a division of SK Innovation.
The AJC says, “The incentive package that state officials would offer to land the Hyundai Motor expansion is not immediately clear, but it could rival the record-breaking $1.5 billion bounties of perks negotiated for Rivian, which includes free land, grants, tax credits, a workforce training center, and infrastructure improvements.”
Georgia is planning to commit public resources to two major automotive manufacturers — Rivian and Hyundai/Kia — in the hopes of creating thousands of manufacturing jobs, and transforming rural areas of the state.
The arrangement with Georgia and Hyundai Motor is still in the works. Governor Kemp is now being called into question by the ex-senator David Perdue. According to former House Speaker Tip O&#8217;Neill, &#8220;all politics is local.&#8221; Rural voters who want to keep their way of life may have the final say on whether a new Hyundai and Kia factory is built.
