The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has opened orders for the Seal U model. For the 2024 model year, there is a significant reduction in prices, almost $3,000.
Having surpassed the 800,000 sales mark in three years, the Seal U will initially come to our country only with the plug-in hybrid version. This motor option stands out with a starting price of $18,000.

#Audi has introduced its first car developed on the all-electric PPE platform, the Q6 e-tron.
The Q6 e-tron, which is priced 10% cheaper than its sibling model, the Porsche Macan EV, developed on the same platform, stands out with both more compact and lightweight electric motors and a large prismatic cell-based massive battery.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

Audi Q6 E-Tron | 255 KM Range with a 10-Minute Charge!

⚡#BYD has revamped its popular electric sedan Han, which sold 220,000 units last year. The 2024 version of the car has been launched in China with a starting price of $25,000.
🟢The 5-meter sedan features a base model with a 150 kW motor, a 60.48 kWh LFP battery, and 110 kW DC charging support. All models come equipped with the new Level 2+ intelligent driving system, DiPilot 100, which has been in development for over 1,000 days. Additionally, the new generation intelligent suspension system, DiSus-C, has been integrated into the 2024 model to enhance Han&#8217;s comfort.

🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

⚡ Chinese ZEEKR极氪 announced a major update to its first car, the 001, by replacing over 2,000 components.
🔋 The 2024 Zeekr 001, available with 95 and 100 kWh battery options, now features an 800V architecture. This not only boosts charging speeds up to 350 kW but also significantly enhances the vehicle’s efficiency.
🟢 Transitioning to the new-generation thermal management system called PTM 2.0 along with the battery, the 4.9-meter electric crossover can operate efficiently in both high and low temperatures.
💨 The new 001 offers a single-motor option producing 310 kW (422 HP) and a dual-motor option capable of generating 560 kW (762 HP). Hence, it’s expected to have a starting price around $40,000.
🚗 Equipped with LiDAR sensor-based autonomous driving mode, a new infotainment system powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, and numerous interior design changes, the exact price of the 001 will be revealed upon its release on February 27th.

🟢Announcing that it will convert diesel mining trucks to electric in 2021 together with #ABB, #Hitachi shared that the first vehicle has been produced.
⛏️The giant truck started to be used in a copper-gold mine in Zambia. It climbs with an electrical connection that feeds the battery, similar to a trolleybus, while going to pick up load. When turning downhill while loaded, it recharges its battery thanks to regenerative braking.
🔋In this way, ABB and Hitachi completed the transformation with a smaller one instead of a megawatt-hour battery. They made this possible thanks to the regenerative braking ability of the huge electric motors seen in the prototype photo.
🔌Mining truck&#8217;s previously had a giant internal combustion engine with 16 cylinders and 2,534 horsepower. It will relatively reduce the impact of mining on the environment by ending diesel consumption and zeroing out emissions after the conversion to electric.

Dutch solar car startup Lightyear officially announced that its first car became the most aerodynamic vehicle in the world. Prior to their successful startup, Lightyear&#8217;s co-founders were part of a university team that participates in the solar vehicle competition World Solar Challenge. As of today, these students created one of the most efficient vehicles out there. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/lightyear-one" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Lightyear 0</a> will soon enter production with its new title: &#8220;The World&#8217;s Most Aerodynamic Vehicle&#8221;.

Lightyear conducted some tests in Germany according to the <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/ev-range-tests-explained-comparison-between-epa-ratings-wltp-nedc-and-cltc" target="_blank" rel="noopener">WLTP</a> standard and officially calculated its solar EV&#8217;s drag coefficient as 0.175 cd. Before this, GM EV1 was the most aerodynamic vehicle since 1996. Lightyear dethrones GM&#8217;s first EV with its tremendous design. The company also claims that Lightyear 0 can travel more than 1,000 kilometers when used for the daily commute, thanks to the extremely low drag coefficient.
Lightyear 0 has only a 60-kWh battery pack, which is enough to get a WLTP range estimate of 625 kilometers. There are more than 1,000 solar cells placed on Lightyear&#8217;s exterior body. These cells help the vehicle generate enough energy to travel up to 70 kilometers on a sunny day. Its energy consumption figures are also too low. It only requires 8.3 kWh per 100 km/62 miles.

Only 946 Lightyear 0&#8217;s are to be made when this sleek EV hits production next month in Finland. It is described as &#8216;the classic car of the future&#8217;. Limited stock leads to a much higher price tag. Dutch company asks for €250,000 to purchase the world&#8217;s most aerodynamic vehicle. But the cheaper version is in the works.
Last July, Lightyear and Koenigsegg signed a partnership agreement to co-develop EV technologies, drivetrains, etc. Solar EV startup also stated that its next vehicle called Lightyear 2 will be a joint project by these two companies. Swedish hypercar-maker will help Lightyear develop cheaper, lighter vehicles.
There are no official details regarding the affordable Lightyear 2. But we know that it will be one of the most aerodynamic vehicles on the market. Lightyear&#8217;s latest investment worth €81 million is also to be spent on this project. Finnish Valmet Automotive will probably once again provide manufacturing services for the company.

Lightyear 0 becomes world’s most aerodynamic vehicle

Mercedes-Benz EQG debuted last year at the Munich Mobility Show. According to Autocar, fully electric G Wagon will use a silicone-anode battery for boosting its range and performance. It will be the first Mercedes to feature a battery that uses a high-silicone anode. EQG will not only offer more range but also weigh much lighter and perform better.
Mercedes and Sila Nanotechnologies collaborated to develop high-silicone batteries in 2019. This year in May, two companies signed a supply agreement for future Mercedes EVs. The new battery cell with silicone anode can achieve a volumetric energy density of 800 Wh/l, according to Sila Nanotechnologies. German carmaker first used the new battery inside its astonishing EV concept called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/mercedes-vision-eqxx/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Vision EQXX</a>. This concept can offer more than 1,000 kilometers of range, thanks to a 100-kWh battery pack that weighs only 495 kilograms and occupies less space inside the vehicle&#8217;s body.
Lithium-ion battery cells mostly use natural/or synthetic graphite as the main material for the anode. China is the dominant supplier of both kinds of graphite. To decrease their dependency on China, western companies have been looking for an alternative. Silicone is the most viable option, as it can store significantly more lithium ions than graphite could. The first successful example of this anode will be used in the electric G Wagon. Sila Nanotechnologies and Mercedes will continue their partnership in other future Mercedes vehicles.

Fully electric EQG will not only feature an energy-dense battery but also an advanced powertrain. Electric G Wagon will have four electric motors, two on the front and the other two on the rear axle. These motors will carry their own gearboxes with fixed ratios. Mercedes is also going to include its most advanced software package that imitates the functionality of the gasoline-engined G Wagon&#8217;s three differential locks.
German carmaker is also looking for an opportunity to implement its newly-acquired British motor company YASA&#8217;s axial flux motors. These compact solutions can produce more torque and weigh less for boosting both range and performance, like the new battery. YASA supplied axial flux motors to Ferrari&#8217;s SF90 Stradale and Koenigsegg&#8217;s Regera. EQG could use the extra torque for an improved off-road experience. Unfortunately, G Wagon fans will have to wait for a couple of years to buy this fascinating piece of technology. Mercedes-Benz is planning to start building the first electric G-Class vehicle in 2025.
