🔋The 2024 BYD Han boasts a range of 506 km (CLTC), which extends up to 715 kilometers in the version with an 85.44 kWh battery. During today&#8217;s event, it was emphasized for the first time that the car features a silicon carbide chip inverter and an 800V architecture. However, the charging speed of the largest battery being limited to 155 kW indicates that the entire high-voltage system is not yet ready for 800V.
🚗In the performance version of the car, a dual-motor powertrain capable of producing 517 horsepower and 700 Nm of torque is used, achieving a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.9 seconds.

Audi, using NCM811 cathode cells produced by Chinese company Contemporary Amperex Technology Co., Limited (CATL) in Germany, states that the larger cell form facilitates battery production. Additionally, it emphasizes that the newly developed smart thermal management system enhances battery life by continuously conditioning the battery and reduces charging time.
Regarding the engine, the company claims a 50% increase in efficiency compared to the first-generation electric Audis and states that it can produce more power with smaller motors by increasing power density by 62%. It should be noted that the Q6 e-tron uses an asynchronous ASM motor at the front and a permanent magnet synchronous PSM motor at the rear, differentiating it from the electric #Macan.

The company revealed its Master Plan 3 at Investor Day, which included the expansion of energy storage battery capacity globally as one of its main elements. The company already operates a Megafactory that creates Megapacks. It is in the United States. BYD scored a big win over its rival CATL. Thanks to its unique battery cell design called &#8216;Blade Battery&#8217;, Tesla can use the cells BYD supplies and create an alternative to its 4680-cell structural battery pack. The original Model Y with the structural pack has a capacity of 75 kWh, while BYD&#8217;s pack offers only around 55 kWh. Due to a significant change in the pack design, CATL partially lost one of its most valuable customers. If Tesla starts to use structural packs in Giga Shanghai, BYD will be the go-to supplier for structural pack-proved LFP cells.
Tesla has been using <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/lithium-ion-battery-cell-types-lfp-nmc-cells-explained" target="_blank" rel="noopener">LFP cells</a> inside cheaper models for a while. But the new Model Y with the structural pack has been using Tesla&#8217;s own 4680 cells exclusively. Giga Berlin will be the first factory to use BYD&#8217;s lithium-ion battery cells. And the Berlin-made standard range Model Y will become the cheapest EV option Tesla offers to European customers.

Last night, Elon Musk took the stage at Tesla&#8217;s 2022 Annual Meeting of Stockholders. It was an impressive milestone for a company that struggled to reincarnate the EV industry in its early days. In recent years, Tesla has made tremendous improvements in the mass production of pure electric vehicles. The Texas-based company built almost half of its total production in the last one and a half year. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-gigafactories" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Giga Shanghai</a> is the clear champion here, as the Chinese factory doubled Tesla&#8217;s production pace in less than a year. According to the latest information disclosed by the EV-maker, the Shanghai factory&#8217;s annual production capacity is around 750K. Its daily production rate will be ramped up to 2,600 vehicles before the year ends, bringing annual capacity to almost 1 million EVs.

Tesla still has a long way forward to be the production giant Elon wants it to become. There are four EV manufacturing plants that Tesla operates today; Fremont, Giga Shanghai, Giga Berlin, and Giga Texas. The automaker will build 6 to 8 more gigafactories in the future. Each factory will be designed to handle at least 1 to 2 million EV production annually. There is no certain timetable for the future factories but Elon heavily hinted that Tesla is looking for a third EV factory location in the North America region, including Canada, Mexico, and United States.
From what we understand, Tesla is certainly planning on increasing its annual output to almost 20 million vehicles in the next decade. This figure will make Tesla become the world&#8217;s biggest automaker. The company will not only produce passenger cars but also electric trucks, pick-ups, and MPVs as well.

Tesla has officially produced more than 3 million electric vehicles

<a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-cars-have-been-sold" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tesla</a> will upgrade its 72-kWh battery inside the Model Y with <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/news/catl-will-start-producing-lfp-batteries-with-15-percent-more-energy-thanks-to-manganese" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CATL</a>&#8216;s latest technology, according to the Chinese news outlet Late Post. CATL calls its new battery &#8220;M3P&#8221;, which holds 15% more energy than its current LFP batteries. Thanks to a more energy-dense battery pack, Tesla&#8217;s new model will weigh less and offer more mileage.
Late Post reported that the new battery will be used inside the 2023 Tesla Model Ys built in the Giga Shanghai factory later this year. Tesla would start producing new electric SUVs with CATL&#8217;s brand-new battery as soon as Q4 2022, the report said. Refreshed Model Y is going to be delivered to Chinese customers in early 2023.
CATL has been developing an improved version of the highly popular LFP battery cells for quite a while. M3P will solve LFP&#8217;s low energy density stats compared to NMC cells. It is reported that the Chinese battery maker would produce M3P cells offering 210 Wh/kg gravimetric energy density. As a result, EV manufacturers could build much lighter vehicles or make those vehicles travel farther while storing more energy inside a battery pack that weighs the same.
<h2>CATL&#8217;s secret &#8216;M3P Battery&#8217; will be the key to cheaper, longer range EVs</h2>

CATL has yet to reveal M3P&#8217;s cathode chemistry. But it hinted multiple times that the new way forward would be LMFP (Lithium-manganese-iron-phosphate). Conventional LFP batteries cost less than NMC, provide a longer life cycle, and decrease the possibility of catching fire when thermal runaway occurs. The only downside is the lower energy density. BYD&#8217;s one of the first LFP battery solutions and only offer 90 Wh/kg, less than half of what NMC cells store.
To further improve LFP&#8217;s energy density, a significant number of companies rely on new cathode chemistry with manganese-additive. CATL will be the first manufacturer to bring &#8216;LMFP&#8217; cells into the market with the launch of M3P batteries. NIO has been developing a similar chemistry for its future EVs. Chinese sources said the company would not only add manganese but also add a third metal into the cathode of its M3P cells. The third metal used in the ground-breaking cathode is yet to be disclosed. Magnesium and aluminum are two highly likely options here.
CATL&#8217;s main goal is to help its customers build cheaper and longer-range EVs. M3P cell, with its promising cathode could be the key to achieving its goal. M3P will improve the LFP battery&#8217;s energy density and keep the manufacturing costs down. The Chinese firm will also not have to spend too much money to change its production lines for the new battery cells, as the LMFP production process is not so different than the conventional LFP products.

Tesla’s Global VP Grace Tao said that Tesla&#8217;s <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-gigafactories">Gigafactory Shanghai</a> is responsible for half of the company&#8217;s global deliveries. Tao further stated that Chinese users&#8217; adoption of EVs is growing year after year, so the Chinese market is a significant leader in the worldwide clean energy vehicle business.
As previously reported, the Giga Shanghai will most probably become Tesla&#8217;s major export-oriented manufacturing center. It delivered about 480,000 fully-electric vehicles to customers worldwide in 2021. Half of Tesla&#8217;s overall deliveries provide high-quality Chinese production to the rest of the world.

<h2>Investment Seeds Already Sown In 2018</h2>
Tesla and the Shanghai Municipal Government and the Shanghai Lingang New Area Administrative Committee announced an agreement in place for a 100% EVs program in July 2018.
The Tesla Gigafactory Shanghai began prototype operations in November 2019. From beginning to end, the factory needed only 10 months to be built and brought to market. The very first round of Model 3s produced by the Shanghai Gigafactory started to be dispatched to customers in January 2020.
At a media briefing on June 14, Xin Guobin stated that China&#8217;s overall sales flow of new EVs has increased dramatically from 20,000 EVs at the end of 2012 to 11.08 million EVs at the end of May this year.
<h2>Localization Efforts in Giga Shanghai</h2>
Tesla wants to strengthen its localization activities, as well as open R&amp;D and data hubs around China, according to Tao. &#8220;The R&amp;D center will be Tesla&#8217;s first auto innovation R&amp;D center outside of the United States,&#8221; she said.

Tesla Intends To Establish R&D Centers In China

The first Gigafactory of Tesla in Europe, the fourth one overall, is officially opened today by the company’s CEO Elon Musk. The initial announcement of building a factory in Europe was made two and a half years ago. The <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-gigafactories/">Giga Berlin</a>-Brandenburg has started officially running today in the German capital.
During the opening ceremony, Tesla has delivered the first 30 Model Ys to the customers. These <a href="https://www.licarco.com/2021-tesla-model-y-performance/">Model Y</a> compact SUVs are the performance configuration of the vehicle and have a range of 320 miles.
The German government has given Tesla provisional approval to start commercial production at the factory in early March. This has allowed Tesla to produce up to 500.000 EVs per year at the Giga Berlin-Brandenburg. The original plan was to begin production in summer 2021; however, the coronavirus pandemic, supply chain disruptions, and environmental concerns have postponed the opening of the factory.
In February 2020, Tesla had to temporarily stop the construction of the factory due to environmental concerns of the local government. Defending the impact of the factory on the environment, Elon Musk argued that the water use of the factory will be relatively very little. He also stated that the forest cleared before the construction wasn’t natural because the trees had been planted for the company’s cardboard factory.

Although Tesla has aimed to produce up to 5,000 cars and 59 GWh of battery capacity annually at Giga Berlin, Musk has previously stated that increasing production will be a real challenge for the company. To achieve this objective, Tesla already hired over 3,000 workers and the number will go up to 12,000 eventually.
In the opening ceremony, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz made a speech that acknowledges the importance of Tesla&#8217;s investment in Germany.
&#8220;The opening of the Tesla factory with Elon Musk in Brandenburg is an important sign: Germany is a strong location for industrial investments. This is how we will succeed in becoming carbon neutral and leading the transformation. The future belongs to electromobility.&#8221;
The Giga Berlin-Brandenburg will be a crucial logistical hub for Tesla because the company currently imports vehicles to Europe from its other factories. The Berlin Gigafactory is the fourth factory after Nevada, New York, and Shanghai. The fifth one is currently underway in Texas, where Tesla will also have its headquarters.

How Many Gigafactories Does Tesla Have? Tesla Factory Locations

Tesla is pushing for a new EV production record as there aren&#8217;t many days left in 2021. The Texas-based automaker has been constantly increasing the pace of production at its facilities. But now Giga Shanghai is at another level of its own. The latest drone footage shows that one <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2021-tesla-model-y-performance/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tesla Model Y</a> produced every 38 to 44 seconds at the site! That means that the annual production rate of Giga Shanghai is at a whopping 683,000 vehicles.
When the Gigafactory 3, the Giga Shanghai first started to produce Model Y electric SUVs in February 2021, the estimated production pace is around one vehicle every 2 minutes. According to the latest drone shots, the Tesla China factory almost tripled its Model Y production pace in less than one year.
At the beginning of 2021, Tesla China can only make 29 Model Ys per hour. Now the Shanghai factory can produce more than 90 electric SUVs every hour. That is an outstanding performance, even for Tesla. Next year, Giga Shanghai will keep increasing its production rate to an annual total of 1 million EVs.

Tesla&#8217;s fourth and fifth vehicle production facilities can&#8217;t make it into production this year. But Tesla is confident that as soon as the final approvals are received Giga Berlin and Giga Texas will start producing EVs at a reasonably high pace next year. Austin-based Gigafactory 5 will probably start operating in the first weeks of 2022. Giga Berlin, on the other hand, is still waiting for German authorities&#8217; approval of its documents. The most recent footage came from Berlin shows a couple of German-made Model Ys assembled and parked in the parking area.
