Mercedes EQC is a D-segment electric SUV launched in 2019. Rather than creating an all-new platform and building an electric car from the scratch, Mercedes took existing petrol engine GLC as a base, swapped the ICE engine with two electric motors and attached them to an 80-kWh battery.
It has an all-wheel-drive powertrain that can produce 408 HP and 760 Nm torque. According to WLTP test cycle, EQC can provide up to 462 kilometers of range. The 80-kWh battery supports 110 kW DC charging. It takes 40 minutes to charge from 10 percent to 80 percent. Charging was very fast when the EQC first launched on the market, but it is not as fast as Hyundai Ioniq 5, or Audi Q4 e-tron.
Mercedes EQC is being produced both in Germany and China. It is available in most of the Europe, Turkey, and China. Base model EQC 400 4MATIC priced at around €66,000 and sporty trim EQC AMG Line costs €7,000 more.
<h2>Performance</h2>
Mercedes EQC is 700 kilograms heavier than the GLC, but extra weight doesn’t negatively affect its performance. It can produce 408 horsepower and 760 Nm torque. It takes only 5.1 seconds to get from 0-100 km/h (62 mph).
EQC handles like a Mercedes, but it weighs 2.5 tons and center of gravity isn’t that low compared to BMW iX or other electric SUVs. As a result, the car’s rolling around when taking the corners, a little bit of understeering as well.
Top speed is electronically limited to 180 km/h not only for safety reasons, but also keeping the energy consumption at a certain level.
<h2>Design and Features</h2>
Even though it’s based on the GLC, Mercedes EQC has a new front grille, slimmer headlights, lightbar style taillights, and a new dashboard design. Front of the vehicle clearly redesigned to show that Mercedes didn’t just swap the engine and put a big battery pack into an existing car. In fact, the new front design is going to be the distinctive face of the Mercedes’s electric vehicles. Both Mercedes EQS and the compact SUV Mercedes EQA have a very similar nose job.
EQC comes with a 12.5-inch infotainment touch display. It has the latest sat-nav system that supports AR navigation. It basically shows you where you should go with virtual arrows on top of the actual footage of the road. If you’re not sure which way to go, just look at the infotainment screen and it will point you where you should turn.
Front and back seats are adequate. Back doors can be opened quite widely, getting in and out is very convenient. Sunroof isn’t as long as the Tesla Model X’s glass roof though.
<h2>Range and Charging</h2>
Mercedes offers only one battery pack option for the EQC. It has a useable capacity of 80-kWh. When fully charged, EQC can travel up to 462 kilometers.
110 kW DC charging is supported, 10% to 80% of charge takes 40 minutes. There is also a new liquid cooled on-board 11 kW AC charger. EQC owners can fully charge their vehicles at home in seven and a half hours.

Mercedes EQC 400 4MATIC

Lucid

Lucid Air is a premium electric sedan that coming to market in spring 2021. It is currently in the pre-production phase at Lucid’s Arizona facility in United States.
Luxurious EV start-up will offer a bunch of different variants of its first vehicle: Air Dream Edition, Air Grand Touring, Air Touring, and the base model Air Pure. Dream Edition will be the first one to be delivered to customers in 2021. Cheapest version Air Pure is not going to be available before later in the 2022.
Lucid Air offers up to 1,080 horsepower with its dual-motor AWD drivetrain. It will be equipped with a 113-kWh huge battery pack. Lucid claims that luxurious sedan can travel up to 832 kilometers on a single charge. Acceleration performance of 0-100 km/h speed is 2.7 seconds. Ultra-fast sedan can also be charged rapidly fast, thanks to one of its kind 900V electrical architecture. It offers more than 300 kW charging rates when plugged into the right DC charger.
Cheapest version Air Pure will be priced around $77,000, but it’s not coming anytime soon. Lucid Air Dream Edition is coming this year and it will cost $169,000 without extras. It will be one of the most expensive electric cars in the market.
<h2>Performance</h2>
Most powerful version of the premium sedan, Lucid Air Dream Edition can be able to produce 1,080 HP. It can get from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 2.7 seconds and top speed is at 322 km per hour.
Other than its smooth and at the same time exciting driving experience, Lucid Air has a LiDAR system that helps with the driving-assist features. Electric sedan has enough hardware to ensure its occupants’ safety while enjoying the thousand horsepower drivetrain’s instant torque feeling.
<h2>Design and Features</h2>
Lucid Air has a very sleek design that achieves a drag coefficient of 0.21, it is the third most aero-efficient vehicle in the world. Tesla Model S Plaid has a 0.208 drag coefficient, lowest of any car ever made. Mercedes EQS is also very good; it produces a drag coefficient of 0.20. That little difference translates into miles of range in the EV-world.
The Air comes with a 34-inch giant display which offers 5K resolution. Display quality-wise, it is way better than any other luxurious car around such as Mercedes EQS’s Hyperscreen and the Tesla Model S.
The humongous display is also slightly curved, surrounding driver with a digital mobility ecosystem. Fancy display aside, dashboard has a very characteristic design. There are loads of quality materials around the cockpit like premium wooden parts, soft fabrics, Alcantara door trims, leather seat covers etc. Lucid used an open port design for the air vents and that also helps design to be smoother.
There is a tablet display below the dashboard that can nest inside the central console when it’s not needed, very similar to Audi’s folding display design on its previous generation vehicles. There is also a 21-speaker Surreal Sound system. With this advanced audio hardware, Lucid will be the first car to offer Dolby Atmos technology to its occupants.
<h2>Range and Charging</h2>
Lucid Air Dream Edition and Air Grand Touring equipped with a 113-kWh battery pack, range estimates are 810 km and 832 km respectively. Both of these Air models offer 300 kW DC charging, it takes 20 minutes to charge that big battery from 10 percent to 80 percent.
Base model Air Pure and the Air Touring will have a smaller 75-kWh battery when they arrive to the market in 2022. Those two variants’ range estimates are also not bad, around 650 kilometers.

Chinese electric vehicle brands are a top priority at Licarco because the EV market has become increasingly dominated by pure electric Chinese cars. Last year, China sold more EVs than the rest of the world. BYD, NIO, ORA, and Geely are some of the biggest Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
Even though China has been producing millions of EVs for years, American drivers wouldn&#8217;t be able to buy one. It&#8217;s because vehicles made in China are subjected to a %27.5 import tariff in the US. Due to heavy taxation, Chinese brands had not prioritized the US auto market in their global plans. But that&#8217;s changing quickly, as more and more Chinese EV marques are expanding their reach towards western markets, including United States.
In this article, we gathered a list of Chinese EV brands and their expansion plans. We will update this post when an announcement is made regarding any Chinese EV maker&#8217;s global expansion.

Leapmotor, an emerging EV brand backed by Dahua Technology, has plans to enter the European market in 2023. The brand officials confirmed that Leapmotor would open showrooms in Europe. To finance its globalization plans, Hangzhou-based carmaker filed its first IPO that worths around $1.5bn at Hong Kong Exchange.
The brand has already started to sell electric vehicles in Turkey and Israel, starting with the compact hatchback called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-t03" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor T03</a>. The first EV to be showcased in Europe will probably be the electric sedan C01. With its sleek design, cell-to-chassis technology, and impressive performance figures, <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-c01" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor C01</a> will attract a lot of customers.

BYD first entered Norway with the full-size electric SUV called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-tang-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tang EV</a>. Over the next months, China&#8217;s biggest EV manufacturer will start selling vehicles all over the world. BYD EVs are already available in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. European countries where BYD will start operations before the end of 2022 are the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden.
BYD will export these three electric vehicle models to Old Continent; compact electric SUV <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-atto-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Atto 3</a>, electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-han-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Han EV</a>, and BYD Tang EV. India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will also be subject to BYD&#8217;s global expansion, as official statements confirmed.
Unfortunately, BYD has no plans to enter the American market yet. But there is a possibility of Chinese EV maker using its new premium brand, which reportedly will deliver a $145K+ luxury EV to the market, to attract customers from United States.

NIO is one of the first Chinese automakers, which officially confirms its entry into the US market. NIO-branded EVs will be on sale in the US starting in 2025. Large-size SUV ES8 is currently being tested on US roads. There is no official timeline for the US launch, though.
Chinese EV marque will also start selling EVs in Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The next move on the global plans is to enter more European markets such as Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. NIO is hoping to sell electric vehicles in 25 countries by 2025.

In February 2022, Xpeng opened its first showroom in Stockholm, Sweden. Guangzhou-based company will start selling EVs in Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden before the year ends. The company&#8217;s first offering will be the mid-range electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p5-600p" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P5</a>.
Xpeng expects half of its electric vehicle sales in 2025 to come from outside of China. Europe is its first choice but customers from the US will eventually get a taste of Xpeng&#8217;s popular cars in the near future. Chinese brand signed a dealership agreement with a Turkish company to sell EVs in Turkey as well. The first vehicle to be put on sale in Turkey will be <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p7-4wd-high-performance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P7</a>.
<h2>Zeekr</h2>

Geely is a global automotive group. There are brands under the Geely Group that sell vehicles all over the world. Zeekr will be joining those brands next year by entering the European market. EV-only brand will make it official in early 2023, as Zeekr announced.
Zeekr has only one model on sale called Zeekr 001, but it has plans to launch a total of seven EVs by 2025. Its 2025 sales goal in Europe is 100,000 vehicles. There is no word whether Zeekr will sell EVs in Scandinavia, western/or eastern Europe. Follow us for more details.

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially entered the United Kingdom and Germany with its EV-only brand ORA. GWM introduced the first vehicles to be put on sale in Europe earlier this year. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/ora-cat-64-kwh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ORA Cat/Funky Cat</a> is the first one for the western market.
The company appoints Emil Frey to distribute vehicles starting in Germany. That is not the first time GWM to choose Germany for its global expansion. Chinese automaker&#8217;s battery division SVOLT opened a battery plant in Germany as well. Recently SVOLT announced its second investment worth €2.0bn, which would enable them to produce lithium-ion battery cells directly in the country.

Li Auto is relatively late to the EV party, as their first choice of vehicle type is extended-range electric vehicles (EREV). BT The company will launch its first pure-electric model sometime next year. There are also plans for a possible production site in Europe.
Beijing-based automaker will be looking for partnerships to start selling EVs in Europe as soon as next year. No official info regarding which countries will get to buy Li Auto EREVs yet.

If you want to play games with an Xbox controller on your Tesla, use a data cable (not a charge-only USB cable that lacks the data transfer function) to plug your controller into your Tesla Model 3/Y&#8217;s main screen via the USB-C ports in the center console or the USB-A port in the glove box. If you prefer a wireless connection, or your controller cannot be connected to your Tesla via cable, just follow our guide down below.

Step 2. Plug the wireless adapter into your Tesla via USB data ports. Use a USB-A to USB-C adapter if necessary. Please be aware that newer Model 3/Y vehicles don&#8217;t have USB data ports in the center console. You will need to use the USB-A port inside the glove compartment.

Step 4. In order to put your controller into pairing mode, first press the Xbox button for one second until it lights up. Then, press and hold the circular pair button located on the back of the controller for three seconds.
Step 5. Once the wireless adapter and Xbox controller ared paired up, the lights on both of these devices will stop blinking. You will see a notification message on your Tesla&#8217;s screen that confirms the pairing.

If you want to turn off regenerative braking on your Tesla, you probably won&#8217;t find any disabling option in the menu. Because turning off regenerative braking is not possible on a Tesla. It is also impossible to adjust the regen on Tesla vehicles built since Q2 2020. Tesla Model S/3/X/Y vehicles built before that date can still be able to offer adjustments. You just need to navigate through the main screen and go to Driving, then change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; to &#8216;Low&#8217; for reducing the level of regenerative braking.
Newer Tesla vehicles come with standard level regen as default. There is no &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; adjustment option anymore. Leapmotor T03 is a small-size electric hatchback first hit the market in May 2020. It is the second EV that Dahua-backed EV start-up built and launched. That is where higher-voltage electric vehicles are coming into play. Tesla recently announced its 1000-volt system and hinted more Tesla vehicles will benefit from the new tech. Future EVs will eventually make the switch from 400V to higher voltage systems.
800V or higher voltage electric vehicles are capable of delivering <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/top-15-ev-charging-networks-in-the-us">ultra-fast charging</a> rates and offer higher performance while improving the efficiency of the all systems. 800V electric vehicles can only be possible by employing an 800V battery and using SiC (Silicone Carbide) inverter, proper cabling, OBC (On-board Charger), DCDC converter and other electrical equipments that support higher voltage levels. Conventional electric vehicles come with 400V electrical architecture as standard. Because of the voltage limit, today&#8217;s electric vehicles are limited to a maximum of 400-volt when they are connected to a DC charging station. In order to reach higher charge rates, current levels should go up to 600A or even more, which is not ideal for the infrastructure that charging stations heavily rely on.
The first higher-voltage EV is the Porsche Taycan, which has a cutting-edge 800V inverter built-in. Its DC charging rate can go as high as 270 kW with the proper charging setup. After that Hyundai and Kia developed an alternative 800V charging tech to avoid using an expensive 800V SiC inverter. In late 2021, Lucid Motors launched its first vehicle Lucid Air with an industry-leading 924V system developed by <a href="https://eepower.com/news/wolfspeed-announces-the-lucid-air-is-using-its-sic-power-modules/#">Wolfspeed</a>. And one year later, Tesla unveiled its first 1000V vehicle architecture with the launch of the tri-motor electric truck Tesla Semi. <a href="https://spectrum.ieee.org/ev-charging-800-volt">General Motors</a>, Volkswagen, and, of course, Chinese brands such as Aion, Avatr, Xpeng, Zeekr, BYD, Voyah and Li Auto have also been developing 800V high-voltage electrical systems for their EVs.
In this article, we researched our way into higher voltage electric vehicles and created a list of benefits of owning an 800V EV.
<h2>Faster Charging Compared to 400V Electric Vehicles</h2>

800V or higher voltage systems allow electric vehicles to be charged at as high as 480 kW, <a href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-g9-awd">Xpeng G9</a> proved. Regular 400V electric vehicles aren&#8217;t capable of doing that, because of the charging infrastructure&#8217;s current limit. When you plug your 400V vehicle into a DC charger, you limit your session to 400-volt. To provide faster charging speeds, EV charger should deliver more current, sometimes as high as 600A or even more (The third-gen Tesla Superchargers can deliver up to 660-amper). In order to increase the current, thicker and water-cooled cables are needed. Even using these expensive cables are not enough to lower down the charge efficiency, as conduction losses will increase up to nine times.
EV manufacturers have been developing 800V charging technologies to overcome this fast-charging problem. Some companies such as Porsche/Audi, Lucid Motors, and Xpeng use SiC inverters inside their EVs. These next-gen SiC inverters can handle higher voltages and also improve efficiency. Hyundai and Kia took a different approach to this matter. Korean automakers developed a technology that manages to provide 800-volt charging by using electric motors as generator and a regular IGBT inverter.
Thanks to more advanced electronics, 800-volt charging enables vehicle owners to reach up to 480 kW DC charging rates. For instance, Xpeng G9 and Aion LX Plus are already on sale that support ultra-fast 480+ kW charging. Lucid Air can go as high as 300 kW. Porsche Taycan did perform similiarly. Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 is also capable of delivering up to 240 kW DC charging speeds. 800V charging is definitely the future of EVs!
<h3>More Efficient &amp; More Powerful Electric Drivetrains</h3>

By switching to a 800V architecture, EV manufacturers can make use of higher voltage motors as well. Porsche is the first company to implement an 800V electric motor into its vehicles. Higher voltage improves overall power density of the motor unit and it reduces the maximum torque required to achieve the same output power due to extended RPM range.
As the DC link voltage of the EV motor units increase, the current levels decrease. This leads to lower copper loss and improves efficiency of the electrical traction systems. Higher voltage motors are also tend to produce more power than lower voltage solutions.
From the efficiency perspective, the next-gen SiC inverters used inside 800V electric vehicles are also much more efficient. <a href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-yangwang-u8">BYD recently unveiled</a> its first SiC inverter developed in-house, which scores an efficiency level of 99.5 percent.
<h3>800V Architectures Mean Lighter Electric Cars</h3>

800-volt electrical architectures can be created by using thinner cables between the battery pack and the inverter, DC charging port, OBC, and other equipments. As a result, 800V electric vehicles will use less copper and that would reduce the overall weight of the car.
Higher voltage electric motors are also significantly lighter and more power-dense than regular lower voltage units. That means 800V electric vehicles can be equipped with smaller, lighter motors. That creates more room for batteries as well.
<h3>Reduced Cost of Cabling, Less Copper Used Inside the Vehicle</h3>
Electric vehicles use more copper than any other vehicles. It takes 2 to 4 times more copper to build an EV than an ICE vehicle. But unlike 400V EVs, higher voltage systems don&#8217;t require thick copper cables. That will not only help manufacturers reduce the cost of cabling but also ease up the global copper supply chain. Because EV batteries and heavy investments in EV charging infrastructure have already been causing problems for the copper industry, thinner cables will help in the near future.
Here are some disadvantages of choosing 800V electrical system over a regular 400V architecture:
&#8211; Higher cost of electrical insulation and clearance
&#8211; Higher voltage battery packs tend to perform less reliable than 400V systems, because they contain larger number of series connections. The impact of single cell failure in a pack like this would be much higher than the 400V batteries with more parallel cells.
&#8211; Lower voltage battery packs are more energy-dense than the similiarly designed 800V batteries, which is the result of all the additional electrical clearance requirements around high voltage systems and the much larger BMS.
