Chinese electric vehicle brands are a top priority at Licarco because the EV market has become increasingly dominated by pure electric Chinese cars. Last year, China sold more EVs than the rest of the world. BYD, NIO, ORA, and Geely are some of the biggest Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers.
Even though China has been producing millions of EVs for years, American drivers wouldn&#8217;t be able to buy one. It&#8217;s because vehicles made in China are subjected to a %27.5 import tariff in the US. Due to heavy taxation, Chinese brands had not prioritized the US auto market in their global plans. But that&#8217;s changing quickly, as more and more Chinese EV marques are expanding their reach towards western markets, including United States.
In this article, we gathered a list of Chinese EV brands and their expansion plans. We will update this post when an announcement is made regarding any Chinese EV maker&#8217;s global expansion.

Leapmotor, an emerging EV brand backed by Dahua Technology, has plans to enter the European market in 2023. The brand officials confirmed that Leapmotor would open showrooms in Europe. To finance its globalization plans, Hangzhou-based carmaker filed its first IPO that worths around $1.5bn at Hong Kong Exchange.
The brand has already started to sell electric vehicles in Turkey and Israel, starting with the compact hatchback called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-t03" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor T03</a>. The first EV to be showcased in Europe will probably be the electric sedan C01. With its sleek design, cell-to-chassis technology, and impressive performance figures, <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/leapmotor-c01" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Leapmotor C01</a> will attract a lot of customers.

BYD first entered Norway with the full-size electric SUV called <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-tang-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Tang EV</a>. Over the next months, China&#8217;s biggest EV manufacturer will start selling vehicles all over the world. BYD EVs are already available in Australia, New Zealand, and Japan. European countries where BYD will start operations before the end of 2022 are the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, and Sweden.
BYD will export these three electric vehicle models to Old Continent; compact electric SUV <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/byd-atto-3" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Atto 3</a>, electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/2022-byd-han-ev" target="_blank" rel="noopener">BYD Han EV</a>, and BYD Tang EV. India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam will also be subject to BYD&#8217;s global expansion, as official statements confirmed.
Unfortunately, BYD has no plans to enter the American market yet. But there is a possibility of Chinese EV maker using its new premium brand, which reportedly will deliver a $145K+ luxury EV to the market, to attract customers from United States.

NIO is one of the first Chinese automakers, which officially confirms its entry into the US market. NIO-branded EVs will be on sale in the US starting in 2025. Large-size SUV ES8 is currently being tested on US roads. There is no official timeline for the US launch, though.
Chinese EV marque will also start selling EVs in Germany, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. The next move on the global plans is to enter more European markets such as Austria, Belgium, France, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Portugal, and the Czech Republic. NIO is hoping to sell electric vehicles in 25 countries by 2025.

In February 2022, Xpeng opened its first showroom in Stockholm, Sweden. Guangzhou-based company will start selling EVs in Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden before the year ends. The company&#8217;s first offering will be the mid-range electric sedan <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p5-600p" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P5</a>.
Xpeng expects half of its electric vehicle sales in 2025 to come from outside of China. Europe is its first choice but customers from the US will eventually get a taste of Xpeng&#8217;s popular cars in the near future. Chinese brand signed a dealership agreement with a Turkish company to sell EVs in Turkey as well. The first vehicle to be put on sale in Turkey will be <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/xpeng-p7-4wd-high-performance" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Xpeng P7</a>.

Geely is a global automotive group. There are brands under the Geely Group that sell vehicles all over the world. Zeekr will be joining those brands next year by entering the European market. EV-only brand will make it official in early 2023, as Zeekr announced.
Zeekr has only one model on sale called Zeekr 001, but it has plans to launch a total of seven EVs by 2025. Its 2025 sales goal in Europe is 100,000 vehicles. There is no word whether Zeekr will sell EVs in Scandinavia, western/or eastern Europe. Follow us for more details.

Great Wall Motors (GWM) has officially entered the United Kingdom and Germany with its EV-only brand ORA. GWM introduced the first vehicles to be put on sale in Europe earlier this year. <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://www.licarco.com/ora-cat-64-kwh" target="_blank" rel="noopener">ORA Cat/Funky Cat</a> is the first one for the western market.
The company appoints Emil Frey to distribute vehicles starting in Germany. That is not the first time GWM to choose Germany for its global expansion. Chinese automaker&#8217;s battery division SVOLT opened a battery plant in Germany as well. Recently SVOLT announced its second investment worth €2.0bn, which would enable them to produce lithium-ion battery cells directly in the country.

If you want to play games with an Xbox controller on your Tesla, use a data cable (not a charge-only USB cable that lacks the data transfer function) to plug your controller into your Tesla Model 3/Y&#8217;s main screen via the USB-C ports in the center console or the USB-A port in the glove box. Step 1. Buy a wireless adapter/dongle for pairing your Xbox controller. <a href="https://amzn.to/3HCaTTv">8Bitdo Wireless USB Adapter 2</a> and <a href="https://amzn.to/3jyyigK">MAYFLASH Magic NS 2</a> are two of the most popular choices.
Step 2. Plug the wireless adapter into your Tesla via USB data ports. Use a USB-A to USB-C adapter if necessary. Please be aware that newer Model 3/Y vehicles don&#8217;t have USB data ports in the center console. You will need to use the USB-A port inside the glove compartment.
Step 3. Put your wireless adapter into pairing mode. 8Bitdo&#8217;s pairing button is on the bottom, whereas the Magic NS&#8217;s pairing mode can be activated by pressing the black button on the side until the light goes green and blinks fast.

Step 4. In order to put your controller into pairing mode, first press the Xbox button for one second until it lights up. Then, press and hold the circular pair button located on the back of the controller for three seconds.
Step 5. Once the wireless adapter and Xbox controller ared paired up, the lights on both of these devices will stop blinking. You will see a notification message on your Tesla&#8217;s screen that confirms the pairing.

Regenerative braking technology is a bliss for the efficiency of <a href="https://www.licarco.com/cars">all-electric vehicles</a>. But it takes time to get used to this helpful feature. Sometimes it gets annoying or makes no sense on some occasions. There is an option to turn it off, but things get complicated with <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/how-many-tesla-cars-have-been-sold">Tesla vehicles</a>. Let us explain.
If you want to turn off regenerative braking on your Tesla, you probably won&#8217;t find any disabling option in the menu. Because turning off regenerative braking is not possible on a Tesla. It is also impossible to adjust the regen on Tesla vehicles built since Q2 2020. Tesla Model S/3/X/Y vehicles built before that date can still be able to offer adjustments. You just need to navigate through the main screen and go to Driving, then change the &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; to &#8216;Low&#8217; for reducing the level of regenerative braking.
Newer Tesla vehicles come with standard level regen as default. There is no &#8216;Regenerative Braking&#8217; adjustment option anymore. So, why wouldn&#8217;t Tesla allow its drivers to adjust regenerative braking? The main reason is that the vehicle range is heavily affected by not being able to recuperate the energy you otherwise lost to heat, etc by pressing the brake pedal. Other automakers agree with Tesla as well. According to <a class="editor-rtfLink" href="https://electrek.co/2018/08/08/audi-e-tron-quattro-electric-suv-range-regen-braking/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Audi</a>, regenerative braking can extend the range by up to 30% on average. Leapmotor T03 is a small-size electric hatchback first hit the market in May 2020. It is the second EV that Dahua-backed EV start-up built and launched. Chinese company recently announced that Leapmotor T03 has passed the European Union&#8217;s Whole Vehicle Type Approval and it is ready to be sold in EU. Dongfeng Motor has partnered up with Huawei to globalize its SERES-branded electric vehicles. Israel is one of the first places they went to sell EVs. 9 Affordable Chinese EVs Available in Israel

Shell is acquiring one of its competitors, Volta, for $169 million. Volta Charging’s difference has always been that its business model is centered on ad sales. According to the US Department of Energy (DOE) data on January 2023, Volta Charging Inc. is the <a href="https://www.licarco.com/news/top-15-ev-charging-networks-in-the-us">4th largest charging network</a> and media company with 3,172 individual charging ports across the US.

With the acquisition of Volta, Shell Recharge Solutions will be the 4th largest EV charging network in the US. According to the acquisition announcement, Shell would provide Volta with loans to support the company until the planned acquisition is completed in the first half of 2023.

Shell to buy out Volta Charging Inc. for $169 Million

EVgo Inc., the largest public fast charging network for EVs in the US has announced that it has agreed on a new supply deal with Delta Electronics, a global provider of power and energy management solutions. Under the new agreement, Delta will provide EVgo with 1,000 ultra-fast chargers with up to 350kW power output.
The EVgo charging network in more than 30 states currently serves over 60 metropolitan areas with more than 850 fast charging locations. According to the EVgo, 1,000 fast chargers from Delta are expected to lower the supply chain risk and expand the fast-charging base target in the US.
This supply agreement with Delta is one of EVgo’s steps towards its expansion to provide more charging stations in the US. EVgo has recently announced its project with General Motors (GM) and Pilot Company. This project will result in 2,000 ultra-fast charging stalls and up to 500 travel centers of Pilot and Flying J across more than 40 states.

General Motors has formed a partnership with Pilot Company. The extended charging services for companies offered by EVgo will fuel the newest charging infrastructure in order to establish a coast-to-coast DC fast charging network founder with the &#8220;Pilot Flying J&#8221; and &#8220;Ultium 360&#8221; brands.
GM initially unveiled its EV charging infrastructure in 2020, along with an agreement with cargo net EVgo to deliver well over 3,200 chargers nationally by 2025. A year later, EVgo joined GM&#8217;s Ultium Charge 360 Program, which unifies a number of networks into one large infrastructure.
Steadily for the past month, GM announced the inclusion of Plug &amp; Charge features to its newest EVs by using charging stations, further deepening its partnership with EVgo.
General Motors is now building the new shoreline DC rapid-charging network in the United States. Its aim is to utilize numerous Pilot and Flying J stations, with further assistance from EVgo.

<h2>The Charging Infrastructure For GM And Pilot Will Be Handled By EVgo</h2>
In a current statement, GM provided information about its plans to create a statewide charging infrastructure. It also described that both the Pilot Company and EVgo would cooperate. In order to construct the DC rapid-charging system, General Motors and the Pilot Company will operate together. This system will primarily include 2,000 stations at 500 Pilot and Flying J ride locations close to the main highways.
Each charging station in the infrastructure will be branded with GM&#8217;s &#8220;Ultium Charge 360&#8221; and &#8220;Pilot Flying J&#8221;  logos and will have a 350 kW charging capacity. Installing, running, networking, and maintaining chargers will be made easier by EVgo.
At each of the 500 Pilot and Flying J stations in the US, the GM-branded DC rapid-charging kiosk network will be available. All EVs with rapid charging capabilities will be able to use the chargers. But according to GM, some of its consumers will benefit more than others:
-Exclusive bookings. 
-Freight price reductions. 
-Features for Plugging in &amp; Charging. 
-Utilizing GM vehicle brand apps and real-time charger accessibility.
GM withheld any financial information regarding its partnership with the Pilot Company or EVgo to put the new charging network into place. The system will only be available in the United States. But according to GM, a network expansion specifically for Canada seems to be in the pipeline.

GM Declares a New DC Fast Charging Network In United States

Cadillac&#8217;s first fully electric vehicle, the Lyriq crossover, went into production in March. The Debut Edition, a model of the rear-wheel-drive Lyriq only available in silver or black with a limited options list. It will be available for customers first. The Debut Edition, starts at $59,990 and will be available to customers this summer. It is also necessary to have an advance reservation. Cadillac has now released pricing details for the upcoming mainstream Rear-Wheel-Drive(RWD) and All-Wheel-Drive(AWD) Lyriqs.
<h2>Initial Models</h2>
RWD and AWD Lyriq order books are open since May 19. The single-motor Lyriq RWD, with 340 hp and 325 pound-feet/440 newton-meters of torque and an EPA-estimated range of 312 miles/502 km, will start at $62,990. This model&#8217;s deliveries will begin in the fall.
Meanwhile, the all-wheel-drive model gains an electric motor on the front axle for an additional 500 hp and a towing capacity of 3500 pounds. The Lyriq AWD starts at $64,990, with delivery orders beginning at the turn of next year. The official EPA-estimated range was brought to light closer to production&#8217;s start. Opulent Blue Metallic and Crystal White Tricoat are two new colors for the Lyriq.

<h2>Cadillac Provides Two Different Surprising Options To Its Customers</h2>
According to Cadillac, all Lyriq customers will have the opportunity to receive two years of unlimited charging credits at public EVgo stations or credit of up to $1500 for the installation of a home charger. This credit will also provide either a Level 2 AC charger or a 240-volt outlet. Each Lyriq includes a portable cord-set charging cable. It works with either 120-volt or 240-volt outlets.
Cadillac claims that a 19.2-kW Level 2 AC home charger can add up to 52 miles/83 km of range in an hour and a DC fast charger can add up to 76 miles/122 km of range in 10 minutes.
